“I had my camera repaired by Calumet Birmingham last year, I chose to use them as they are a respected and trusted name who I'd bought equipment from previously. Unfortunately the experience didn't match my expectations at all. Having given the camera in for repair it turned out that they send the camera straight to a 3rd party for repair - knowing this now I would simply use the 3rd party to avoid Calumet's percentage. The repairs took quite literally months and whenever I called to ask for a progress update or complain at the delays I spoke to a different member of staff meaning starting from scratch so they could find my details (they misspelled my name so couldn't find my record on the computer), furthermore on many occasions calls were not returned or only part of the information was returned. My biggest complaint was that when after some weeks a quote was finally obtained for the repairs which I though was extortionate, Calumet staff were extremely reluctant to press the 3rd party repairer for a more sensible quote and refused multiple requests for a breakdown of precisely what I was paying for - in effect they came up with a number and then held my camera to ransom. Eventually the camera was returned and I've had no problems since, however I will not be using Calumet again for repairs or purchases and have warned my photographer friends to do likewise. Hopefully this review (which Calumet requested I make via email) will serve as a warning to others not to use their services for repairs (I should point out I've had no issues making purchases in the past). Perhaps if Calumet read this they might choose to review the attitude and training of staff in regards to following up customers' requests and ensuring they get value for money.”

“I was looking for a basic introduction into using my new camera and thought this would be aimed at higher level than I needed. I was wrong. The seminar was pitched at exactly the right level and allowed me to absorb useful information and additionally gave me an insight into the camera itself, the use of the menus, and crucially moving off the auto settings and all without going into information overload. The surroundings were comfortable with tea, coffee and biscuits available which led to a relaxed atmosphere and was conducive to learning. The powerpoint presentation is aimed at Nikon however the course tutor was quick to give the Canon equivalent either verbally or by coming over to physically show you the routes through, it was not an issue and in some respects enhanced the experience. There was a 20 minute delay in starting the seminar as they had an issue getting the proxima to work through the laptop , this could have and should have been sorted prior to the seminar but eventually the issue was sorted and the lost time was added on at the end so there was no loss in course time {it just made me slightly late for an appointment}. Overall this was worth the money and the time as it opens up new avenues which appear to the leyman as difficult and in reality they are not, The seminar doesn't make an expert it does however give you meaningful tips and guides for you to go out an practice... well worth it it my view.”

“Staff at Edinburgh were fantastic when I had a problem with my Nikon. They fast tracked it to Nikon for assessment then contacted me when they had an estimate. I needed my camera urgently and they managed to get it repaired and back to me before I left on an 8 week trip. Great service.”

“I have found the staff at Calumet particularly knowledgeable about equipment and how to use it. They offer I dependant advice and will always go the extra mile to assist you. I have outstanding service and found them a constant source of good advice. Calumet products are good value for money and are top quality often outstripping top brands. I personally feel the Northern Ireland store offers an outstanding personal service, nothing is too much trouble and they do what they say without being chased. If at all possible I will buy from Calumet every time.”

“Bought a tripod recently. Thought a fastener was missing and called the customer-service dept. No fun. No action followed. Next wrote an e.mail. possibly to a wrong department, for again, nothing happenend. Third time, after months, I contacted the nearest Calumet-store (Manchester), told them about the problem I thought I had. The person advised me to visit the shop, for they would possibly have the missing item somewhere among the returned goods. I could not do the visit right then. At last I called Manchester again and spoke for the first time with a person not in a hurry. And what was the result? Because of his knowledge, interest and the time he took to get to the bottom of the matter, he found that there was nothing missing but that I had not recognised how to utilize a part actually attached to the tripod. So Calumet: A) do enclose a simple but clear drawing on how to use things, even though things seem clear enough to yourselves and B) get persons to listen and be inquisive when talking to customers on the phone. It will help save time, money, nerves and.... your Reputation!”

“John Fairclough, Fotographic Images. I have recently decided to upgrade certain parts of my Canon equipment and Caulmet Manchester not only gave me an excellent price but also a superb service. Perhaps more importantly, at the time of making my purchases I also took a client with me who wished to upgrade from using a bridge camera to a full blown DSLR, however my client had some rather strict health/weight limitations and Calumet where extremely accommodating. She finally chose a Canon 70D, appropriate "L" lenses and accessories. She is very happy, thank you Calumet. The total money spent by the two of us on that day was considerable, but this never phased the staff whatsoever. I now have another client now who wants to make a similar upgrade and where have I recommended, "Calumet - Manchester". Keep on clickin. John Fairclough www.fotographicimages.co.uk”

“I have always found all the staff at Calumet to be exceedingly helpful and prepared to answer any queries I have had. If on the very rare occasion, they did not immediately know the answer, they would find out and then come back to me. They can also give a hands on look at equipment before deciding to buy. This makes it far superior to just an internet supplier based purely on price and why we as photographers should always support Calumet, as losing that service element would be very regrettable.”

“I ordered a camera off the website and chose to pick it up at the Manchester store. I was told I would be sent an email when it was available. I wasn't sent an email and it was only after a few days when I phoned the store to check that I ws told that they'd had it for several days.”
