“The carfax system was very helpful in purchasing our used Ford. I say system since we rejected another good looking candidate based on the information in the report of that car. The one we bought has worked out well since we bought it.”

“While Carfax is a good tool to add to the car purchase toolbox it may be causing consumers to lose value on their vehicles unnecessarily. Particularly the “Damage” category which lacks enough detail to show if just a plastic bumper cover was scratched and scuffed needing cosmetic repair or if the vehicle hit or was hit by something requiring mechanical repair in addition to cosmetics. Meaning that a car with cosmetic damage (Shopping cart scuffs or parking garage pole) takes a big hit against its resale value which may not be commensurate with the extent of the damage.”

“The carfax report was essential to my decision to not purchase a car. In the report I could see the car had been in numerous accidents and spent some of its life in the Northeast where rust is a big problem. I live in Hawaii and the current owner claims he was not aware that the car had spent 10 years in the rust belt.”

“I bought a car in 2012 that showed no accidents or salvage. I ran one last month that shows the car was totaled 8 months before I bought it. The car has 6000 miles on it when I bought it from a Rockford dealer. Emmett Porter”
