“I ordered roof bars online to pick up, it said they would be kept for 7 days. So I showed up at the counter about 3 days later. The young guy at the desk was helping another customer, he was chatty and thoughtful and knowledgeable. There then followed one of those slightly frustrating delays whilst he went away to do something without explanation, but on return he was again friendly and polite. As seems often the case having delayed my picking up a few days there seemed a slight question about when I had placed the order, but after some searching he found it and headed off to look. It’s hard at this point as customer to know what is set up behind the scenes, it seems easy to figure my roof bars were set aside all ready to go , but after coming in and out a couple of times, with some apology, they didn’t appear. There was some interaction with a colleague out back, and he then came through and placed them on the counter. He commented that they had been opened, and this was clear as the top of the box was ripped and the bars were slightly protruding out. I said ‘ok’ and started out, he called me back to ensure I had my receipt and said that if I had any problems I could return them. On taking the bars out of the box it already seemed clear they had been removed before and attempts made to squeeze them back in, hence the tear, and the box had 2 obvious holes in it. On inspection each of the bars had a dent in - so I was left thinking the server possibly knew they were not quite right, hence making sure I had the receipt. I nevertheless tested the bars and attached them, and their structural integrity is fine, and they have been used. But I’d have liked more honesty at the counter, seemingly these bars had been damaged in transit at some stage, possibly sold to someone else who did return them, and then passed on to me without comment. Really I should have been told about the issues and given the option to leave them, or maybe a reduction.”
