“I have a very basic contents insurance policy with Admiral. In all the 10 years I've rented property, I have never had to make a contents claim but had a policy every year. This year (2020, the year that can so kindly disappear into the abyss never to be seen again), the building I rent was struck by lightning emitting a power surge through the ariel and frying my electrical goods.
I reported it to Admiral the next day. It took them 17 days to create the claim with only one correspondence email in this time.
Collection for the electricals to be assessed was arranged via third party. The earliest they could come was in four days. On the day, they called me to say they weren't coming because the engineer had broken down. I was not given a new date, just told to wait for a call.
I have now been without a television and other devices for 23 days and counting. I have had to rearrange my working days only for the engineer to not turn up.
I have provided feedback to Admiral and yet to receive a response.”
“After an accident on the 10th June 2019 I submitted my dashcam footage to Admiral the third party in question tried to instigate a road rage situation that resulted in deliberately trying to cause an accident by swerving into my lane And deliberately slamming on his brakes this did not cause the accident And me vechicle skidding to a holt next to his the accident in question but 1 min after this When still in a state of shock I decided to pull my vehicle over to the side of the road in front of his vehicle prior to commencing the man over I in formed him of my intentions, while attempting to pull across he moved his vehicle forward and hit my vehicle. Even though I had fall dashcam footage of the whole time time line And the third party was making a false claim and falsifying witnesses Admiral laid the full blame on myself then referred the accident to their underwriters who not only deemed me responsible also accused Me of driving aggressive and deliberately putting my vehicle in danger and cancelled my insurance under their section 3 And they will be recovering cost totalling more £8000 from myself even though I informed them my wife was suffering from Breast cancer they did not care and informed her will be in touch with final bill After lodging a formal complaint and spending over 3 hours on the phone taking them through the footage second by second they unsurprisingly found in favour of their underwriter. We have now referred the whole incident to Ombudsman and are currently still fighting them over a year later. I strongly believe their decision to cancel my insurance was down to the fact we made 3 claims our joint policy within a year and Admiral wanted me off their books and used my dashcam . So do not send your dashcam footage to Admiral as the first thing they use it for”
“I have 3 instalments left to pay on a car policy which in total came to £44, I had to scrap the car so tried to cancel the policy and was told the cancellation fee would be £49.
Surely it should never be the case that a cancellation fee exceeds the remaining balance. Unbelievable.”
“Worst ever. Easy to set up but impossible to get in contact with after that. No phone no on the site and even if you call average waiting time one hour!!! Every time you call it is expected you to pay £25. But make changes on the site is most of the times impossible so you have to call them.”
“Terrible!! Easy to set up yes but even if you have the slightest little problem they are a nightmare to get in contact with. Currently been wait 1:10:00 minutes to cancel my policy! I would not recommend
.”
“Very dissapointed with them i've been with admiral,
4 years ago i got a quotte for myself i was new driver first year and was around £3500 p/year,and for 3 years follow i was named driver and my ex partner was the policy holder and now i've split up with my exnpartner i tried to get a quote for myself as policy holder and all i get is over £7000 p/year quote from them,
And they say you can get a little discount if you are a named driver with admiral,
Very very dissapointed with them,”
“Avoid this broker !!! I took a Home Insurance with them. When I filled in my partner details I typed Coffee Merchant but the website auto-fill change it to Commodity Dealer. I called them, no answer. I filled a complaint online and they reply after 2 days saying that they will charge me £19.50 for the ,,update''. So I decided to take a new policy with a different broker, filled a complaint to Financial Ombudsman Service regarding this matter.”
“Admiral increased my home and contents insurance because I ENQUIRED about making a claim the previous year. I did not go ahead with the claim, but they penalised me for enquiring about it, saying it is counted as INTENT TO CLAIM !!!!
When I asked to cancel they said it would cost £25 even though I had only had the new policy for 20 minutes!
AVOID!!!”
“Admirals price doubled when an online quote for building & contents insurance got refused & I rang up to ask the reason why.
They told me it was because I had made an enquire this year about claiming for storm damage repairs from my then insurer who I had been with for the last six years.
The claim NEVER processed as the repair cost was not worth pursuing bearing in mind the policy excess.
All what was recorded was that I had made an enquire about making a claim for storm damage.
However Admiral chose ignore the FACT that NO claim was ever paid from the company I had the policy with, but still choose to double the price from their online quote.
They refused to contact my previous insurer to ask if ANY claims had been made by me for the entire six years I had insurance with them.
If they had bothered they would have been told that there had NEVER been ANY claims paid to me by them in the last six years.
So before purchasing any policy from Admiral, ask yourself the question do you want to put to the test (before trying to make a claim) the ethics of a company who choose to believe what they want to believe because it suits them rather than their customers.”
“Horrible company ... took em 5 months to process a repair during which i had no car although I paid for courtesy car option but they twicked so you don't get one if your car is stolen and recovered ..complained to FCA ... Avoid”
“Staff missguided me since Feb.end.
That's why cancelled my policy today.
Also loose near about £500.00.
I suggest others to make sure with 2 or more staff members before taking any decision, they deserve a big ZERO.”
“Had minor accident whilst driving less than 5mph, admiral say car is a total loss due to cost of fixing, they didn’t even call to explain this to me just sent an email stating a salvage yard would be coming to collect car and to clear my belongings from the car.......
My insurance is now cancelled with immediate affect unless can get fixed myself or an MOT. I now have no way of getting to work tomorrow and I’m an essential worker. Had to scrabble around to find a garage to collect my now uninsured car to repair and do MOT at short notice so I have a way of getting to work. Car is drivable with minor damage, terrible way to treat a customer anyway but especially in these difficult times.”
“Premium paid on 14th of May £640.00
Renewal quote on 24th of April £1715.00
Same multi-car policy, same drivers, same location, same mileage. Absolute rip-off. Avoid-Avoid-Avoid”
“Stay clear of this company, they do not care about how much of a desperation they will put you in I’ve had my policy cancelled, with no forewarning whatsoever, I received one letter that wasn’t even sent to my correct address, STAY CLEAR”
“Ford Insure started using Admiral , my Premium jumped so much I had to reduce annual mileage from 10000 to 1000 and remove commuting . The new Premium is still 33% more . I made no claims and have a clean license . They sent the renewal 2 days before expiry so I had no time to shop around . Avoid Admiral as if it was a Rabid Honey Badger with Coronavirus . PS the online facilities to change the policy don't work . I recommend Aviva .”
“With the current worldwide situation Cv19.
Admiral have absolutely no morals or decency, charged me £49 to cancel my car insurance, asked them waive the fee and they point bank said no. I never missed a monthly payment or made a claim. Will never use them ever again, disgusting company, thanks for the help admiral.”
“Admiral took over Ford Insure and my premium jumped 50% , I had to reduce my cover to 1000 miles a year (from 10000) and remove commuting then it was still 33% more ! Avoid this company like a rabid honey badger with coronavirus ! There are many other providers that give better cover for a lower cost . They sent me my renewal 2 days before expiry so I had no time to shop around . I am Disabled .”
“I have been with Admiral for several years and every renewal they send me a 10% increase in premiums despite no change in cars or drivers. This year I am pushing back, but they don't answer the phone and I can't cancel the policy online. Aviva us much cheaper for their multi-car policy. Its a shame Admiral don't value customer loyalty.”
