great - all very straight forward and very pleased with the large drop in insurance this second year due to my careful driving last year being recorded by the black box.

We had the SmartMiles policy for two years, but the associated tracking device was faulty and gave clearly erroneous readings. Despite repeated requests for this to be investigated by a qualified personnel, they refused stating that the data was correct. Altogether an appalling response which adversely affected the follow-on premium offered. We had no choice but to look elsewhere. We would never recommend this company to others because of their incompetence and complete disregard of customer satisfaction. Avoid!

My renewal prices have been fairly competitive with the installation of a black box. However, I had a very poor experience with their customer service team while trying to switch my insurance onto a new car, which was denied due to a small amount of paint on the brake calipers (deemed to be a modification). This resulted in months of back and forth and work on my part in getting this sorted. Eventually, I had to physically remove the paint myself and get it certified by the manufacturer before they would retract their decision and allow me to remain on the policy. I think there could have easily been a more sensible way of sorting this, but unfortunately this was not the case in my experience.

Hi there,Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to see you have had such a bad experience when trying to change the vehicle on your policy. We do look at modifications for example, potential performance brakes and have to make sure they are covered properly. This is mainly because if there was a potential accident we would need to make sure your vehicle is repaired to the same specification as prior to the accident. This could mean having to source the modified brakes or even having to get a specialised mechanic to fit them. I do apologise for the inconvenience this must have caused though.~ Jamie

Service was friendly and helpful. It involved a phone call and the assistant was polite, friendly and managed to deal with my query in a quick and timely manner

Jamie was the agent, he was super nice and chill. But I am kinda annoyed because the information on my renewal documents were incorrect which changed my renewal price, the wrong postcode was recorded on the system. Jamie changed it and it was all fine. However, the wrong documents were sent across to the credit company, meaning that I cannot sign my document. This is really annoying as it is delaying my signing of the documents.

The price was good but I was dismayed that the breakdown didn't add up by some ?27. After some argument &, frankly, a lot of bullshit coming back, you eventually admitted you had sneaked in legal benefits which was not on the schedule ! It was refunded. This is not an honest way to do business.

The staff at their call centres were their only saving grace, but I felt sorry for them having to deal with these problems which I'm sure are not specific to me. They were a credit to the company although some were (understandably) embarrassed when I explained to them the letters I'd received. Amazing customer service but would never insure with Hastings smart miles again.

I wish I never went with this company and wouldn’t recommend anyone else does either. The scores are rubbish and never go up but go down within a day. None of them make sense as my breaking is 100 but acceleration is a 0 when my car doesn’t even let me accelerate fast!? I’ve requested emails that were supposedly sent to me but they haven’t been received and they were no able to provide me with a copy. I’ve also been charged more money as the automatically increased my mileage to unlimited without asking and we’re going to cancel in 5 days, which I wouldn’t have know if i didn’t ring up. Absolutely shocking. I’ve had around 5+ threats of my policy being cancelled which has caused me so much stress being a first year driver. This may seem like cheap insurance but it will cost you in the long run with the extra charges and the stress. DO NOT GO WITH THEM

HI can see that you have received emails from us regarding your policy dropping below 40/100 but have you managed to speak with an advisor about this? Just wish i'd read this before insuring my son's car! His time of day score is zero even though you can clearly see his journeys over the last 5 days and he's been in before 10! His score is 38 and we now have an email saying he has 7 days before the insurance is cancelled! Well, it wont get to 7 days as i intend to cancel today, what a shambles of a company which looks to penalise young drivers.
