“I was invited to renew my policy unfortunately the price quoted was well above the previous years cost. I went to comparison sites and got the same Legal and General policy at a much keener price. It is such a pity that a loyalty policy doesn't seem to exist. I would happily allow my policy to roll over if I felt valued.”

“As I haven't needed to make a claim against this policy ( yet - touch wood !) I can't really say what they are like as an insurer. The process of switching to them from my previous insurer was very straightforward, but that was as much to do with the ease of use of the Go Compare site as it was anything to do with the insurer themselves. They did send me a £10 M & S voucher for taking out insurance with them - which was nice ! Never had that before from any other insurer.”

“I found L&G to be quick in taking your premiums but not quick in settling claims. What's the point of having insurance when you can't use it when you need to. I submitted a claim with L&G two and a half months ago (at the same time as a claim with FriendsLife). I included all my medical evidence and Friendslife settled my claim within 2 weeks. I am still waiting for L&G to confirm if my claim is valid. I have not had one letter/phone call/email from L&G over this period, and if it were not for me phoning them to get an update, I'd be none the wiser. I would definitely not recommend them for any protection insurance products. Friendslife is so much better!!!”

“We had a leak in the roof after severe weather and although I had emergency assist on my policy, we were never offered this. They refused to pay for our roof repairs even after getting a report from an independent surveyor saying it was storm damage. Please do not use legal and general if you want the cover you have paid for. This was supposed to be a 5 star insurance but we have paid almost £2000 out of our own pocket already.”

“Took out a house insurance policy on-line, and paid on line via credit card for the 12 months. Had a letter from L&G 30 days later demanding payment and telling me the property was un-insured until I paid. Checked with my credit card provider and the transaction went through the day before the policy commenced. Spent a few hours sorting out their mess and incompetence by digging out correspondence, contacting them by phone (no free-phone number) and by email, to be told they had received my payment at the time, but not allocated it to the policy. Staff were very polite hence they get a star !, but not the company !!”

“I used the L & G website to set up a policy When I phoned the call centre to request an exchange cover note I discovered the website had mixed up the house numbers on the ‘Insured Property Address’ and my ‘Previous Address. This is a website software bug. The Address is selected / validated by Postcode and the House number. The Address on the Policy Schedule simply did not physically exist. The Call centre was unable to rectify this error and had to cancel the policy.”
