“Daughter and son broke down at 2am today. Still waiting for car recovery . Also a car to get them to get them home which they are covered for. Now 9pm and have just been informed they will pay for a taxi. The journey will take 2 hours to get to where they r going, no car neither which they should have got. Disgusting service.”
“Green flag recovered my vehicle and dumped it in a hotel carpark with the key in the ignition and unlocked . It was 48hrs later before we discovered it had not been delivered to the garage 😡
Do not use Green Flag they don’t care about your car and use dishonest third party recovery companies who tell you where it’s going when they pick it up but dump it insecure in car parks rather than take it to its promised destination.
Lucky for Green Flag it wasn’t stolen or vandalised !”
“If I could give zero I absolutely would. Husband broke down 4:45 and the side of the motorway.
Complete faff to book the rescue then numerous text messages changing the time.
Finally sent someone who couldn’t do the job as his tacigraph was up. No explanation as to why somebody else didn’t come?
Sat at the services for 3 hours. Called back finally agreed to a taxi and pick the car up at 10 to bring home.
Car not picked up til 2. Again zero communication had to ring constantly to find out what is going on.
Sat here writing this review at 4 and still no car.
Scam of company AVOID at all costs.”
“Broken down on a slip road of the motorway, was told I would be recovered within 50 to 90 minutes. SEVERAL hours later I was still waiting!! I appreciate that they might have a lot of calls but this is joke. One of the main reasons I chose Greenflag was their “ fast recovery time” wish I saved my policy money and went with an independent recovery team.”
“I broke down on my motorbike 6+ hrs ago I broke down at 4:30pm and the Recue turned up at 23:03pm So my rescue is attending after 6hrs of waiting in the Rain. This is my 1st and my last time I use Greenflag . 6 years I paid for their service 1st time im using them I have to wait 6hrs for a rescue. I will never use greenflag again ever.”
“I have Breakdown Cover through my Virgin Money Club M account. I called today because my car broke down in Wales while my friend was driving it (I was at home in Plymouth).
I was incredibly clear with the initial call handler about the "material facts"—specifically that I was not with the vehicle. The handler confirmed this was fine, accepted the claim, and we arranged for the vehicle to be recovered to Plymouth. I was given the option to recover to a garage locally in wales or I asked if it can be back to Plymouth, I was happy with this news. Based on this promise, we stopped looking for other help, as most people would do.
Hours later—after we had relied on their confirmation—they called back to retract the offer. They suddenly decided that because the vehicle wasn't listed on the policy, it fell under "Personal Cover," which requires me to be present. They refused to recover the car, leaving my friend stranded miles from home. Bare in mind nobody had ever told me my car had to be registered on the policy, it’s a benefit that’s happily handed out to customers and not disclosed, in fact they used an excuse that they could at most cover a vehicle I called up about previously (which was a query for recovery that never happened) over a year and 8 months ago.
My issue isn't just the small print; it is the incompetence of the service. You cannot confirm cover when presented with the full facts, allow a customer to rely on that promise, and then pull the rug out from under them hours later. This is dangerous and unfair. It seems they’ll do anything to wiggle out of a claim. When I asked to speak to a manager this was unavailable, I had to lodge a complaint which “someone will try to get back in 72 hours”, I am extremely lucky no one was stuck at the roadside or needed help we wasn’t in the fortunate position to be able to wait around longer than most for.
If you have Club M insurance, do not trust their first answer. They might leave you stranded halfway through a rescue. I couldn’t imagine if I this was on the side of a motorway or with my family.”
“If I could give a zero star review I would.
Having paid for both roadside and home start cover I called them on a Monday morning to say my car would not start, then again in the afternoon, again on Tuesday morning.
Come Thursday they had not rung me so I had to get a local garage to come out.
Still no call back from Greenflag so I raised a complaint asking for a full refund.
They eventually called me back 5 days after I originally called them, its a good job I was not sat broken down on the roadside.
Once my refund hits the bank I will be joining the AA.”
“Bought road side assist broke down it was dark in pouring rain on my own female they refused said recovery only I said don't need recovery as car started I just needed reassuring still refused to send roadside assistance that I paid for PLEASE JOIN AA OR RAC better service I complained got nothing not even an apology I am going to the OMBUDSMAN now”
“Not even 1 star left a new driver 18 year old stranded as they said he wasn't on the family policy that we added him to ended up paying to be town off motorway raised complaint just had a crappy we are sorry email offering to refund tow truck but damage is done then had cheek to offer a renewal at double waht we paid please please do be careful when choosing breakdown cover as this company will not deliver”
“Green Flag hang your head in shame for your appalling service!! As I arrived at Meadowhall steam started coming from my engine and a red warning light came on. As my car couldnt be driven I rang Green Flag to have my car towed at 4 30pm. My partner and I were told to have a coffee and they would collect it in two hours. After that we kept receiving messages every hour advising us they would be with us in an hour. Had to remove the car at 10.00pm as the car park would be closed and we would receive a fine. This was risky in view of the fault. Parked it at a bus stop outside the car park. We waited and waited until 11.00pm when my partner got a taxi home while I remained waiting. After many more messages a pickup arrived at about 12.30!! What kind of service is this? The first tow truck never came from Richford Motor and the one that collected me said he had only received the call six minutes before. It appears Green Flag enploy companies that are not fit for purpose! A reply from Green Flag would be appreciated!”
“Husband broke down on way home from work rang Green flag at 20.36 was told someone would be out at 21.30 but no show. 22.25 someone shown up said something about fuel pressure couldn't sort problem so rang for recovery van (broke down just off roundabout on main busy road) still took them till midnight to pick him up. Absolutely disgusting service won't be recommending green flag to anyone.”
“Reported incident 12.15. ETA 13.30 then received a call saying between 2pm and 3pm. Then update was 3.30pm. I was not in an area easily accessible to transport for my medical appointment at 3.30 which would have meant a return taxi fare of approximately £80. Very POOR. I will definitely be seeking a better recovery service as this solution was unworkable for me. Customer service said they would try to get my callout prioritised but I did not receive an update. I did get my car going but my complaint about the service remains.”
“We told them our range evoque was not to be turned over again as a specialist advised not to do so as to not damage the engine again. I explained I just want it towed to the specialist and they said they have to send a van first to listen to it!! After me telling them that cant be done as could cause further damage.
Ive been a customer for over 25 years and never needed them in all that time more than half a dozen times. All that money paid and they dont listen.
Ive had to now pay privately”
“Reported a brakedown at 10am. My motorcycle wouldn't start. It would turn over but not fire up. The problem was the fuel pump sticking. I asked for recovery home. I explained all this to the call handler. Received an email stating they would be there at 1105am. Then Received an email at saying they were busy and would be there by 1330 . Then at 1214 another email saying still busy and be there at 1600. I received a telephone call at 1520 from the driver who was on route to jump my battery ( which he was told was flat) I explained I needed a recovery home and he said he couldn't do this as he had a car on the back of his trailer. I told him not to bother coming as it was NOT MY BATTERY. He turned up anyway ( obviously so he got paid for doing absolutely nothing). He took some pictures and I attempted to start the engine to prove it would turn over and show him it was not a flat battery. The engine spluttered and after a couple of attempts by me it fired up. I drove my bike home. I reported this fault at 10am and sat by the roadside until 15.20pm. Absolutely disgusting service. If you listen to the initial call from me you will here me reply to the question does the engine turn over with a yes.”
“The greenflag company, what parent company is direct line, is the worse company I have had the misfortune to have paid for, I'm got a battery only 6months old and is faulty, greenflag are flaty refusing to change there faulty goods, be aware once u have paid Yr money, they don't want to now you, and still they are selling the customers faulty goods, they are the more, disrespectful, rude, abnostious company I have every had to deal with, so be awair, they may be cheaper than the aa, but do u want to be left with faulty good that will let u down????????”
“Very disappointed with Green Flag. Very slow response time on the one occasion I needed them 3 years ago due to their small fleet and use of local contractors. Their prices have rocketed. I've just renewed with RAC for 3 rather than 2 vehicles at half the price.
I tried to cancel my subscription mid-year but was refused because I had called them for a burst tyre and then cancelled the call-out 10 minutes later as I got a local garage to help. This invalidated my ability to cancel the policy and get a refund. Just received the renewal notice which says ' though you didn't need us this year ....' Sharp practice!
Needless to say I'm not renewing ....”
“like everyone else great if you breakdown but trying to get hold of someone to speak to is a nightmare.
Needed to cancel my auto renew £141.00 as a new quote is £95 but being passed from pillar to post 4 different phone numbers rung started at 11.45 its now 19.20. They have now asked me to ring back end of the week FFS.”
“Impossible to change car details with them. Over an hour waiting for a phone call, no way to do it on the web site. At this point I'd be better off cancelling and trying anyone else”
