My overall experience left a lot to be desired. The collection process was slow, the car was old and because I bought insurance elsewhere they held US$2000 against my credit card. My biggest issue however was that I bought a sunpass for tolls and because I left it on the windshield I was charged $300. When I got the car there was already one on the windshield and of course I did not see or was told that there would be a fine for the sunpass. I certainly feel robbed as that is excessive and I will not be using this company again.

Beware, the imposition of tolls on your car is going to cost you £68 in an ”administrative fee”. Green Motion do not openly disclose this when you pick up the car, nor when you return it. If I had known I had driven thru a toll I would have paid it but there is no notification until you receive the outrageous fee from Green Motion. It is buried in fine print in the document you are asked to sign at car pick-up, which, given every single person picking up a car is not going to stand there and spend 15mins reading!!! A verbal warning would be a good piece of customer service. Lousy and sneaky, zero stars

AVOID THIS SCAM! Bait and Switch at its Finest! I booked a car with Green Motion through a third-party app, attracted by what seemed like a great rate. I then spent $80 on an Uber to get to their location, only to be hit with a classic bait-and-switch scam. At the front desk, I was told the initial rate was only the beginning. They demanded an additional $60 a day for their insurance, $20 a day for tolls, and a ridiculous $2,000 security deposit. When I tried to use my personal State Farm insurance, which includes full rental coverage, the front desk agent refused. He claimed that under Florida law, it is mandatory for Florida residents to purchase a separate policy with at least $300,000 in coverage! A completely false and unbelievable assertion. After being told I couldn't use my own valid insurance, I realized I was dealing with a company that operates on misleading and dishonest tactics. I was forced to walk out without a car and spend another $80 on an Uber. Save yourself the time and money. This company is not legitimate. A total scam!

This place is 100% a scam. When we rented our car through them, they gave us paperwork of all of the dents and scratches. We returned the car a day early, had 2 attendants review our car that day and say it was in perfect condition and full of gas, and then I was hit with a $2k damages charge when I returned home. With the email about the damages and charges, they sent pictures of a busted windshield and all of these dents that I think we would’ve noticed when we returned the car or at least had an attendant point out and tell us we’d be charged for! This company is a SCAM, AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Before arriving, I completed the pre-check-in process online, which took approximately 20 minutes. However, upon arrival, I was required to go through the entire check-in process again from the beginning. This rendered the pre-check-in completely pointless and was a frustrating waste of time. Additionally, the limited shuttle service to your location — running just once per hour — was incredibly inconvenient. We ultimately had to pay for an Uber to avoid waiting around, which added unnecessary expense and hassle to our journey. The most concerning part of the experience, however, was the behaviour of the staff member at the front desk. She engaged in extremely aggressive and inappropriate pressure tactics regarding insurance. We were repeatedly warned that our chances of having a crash were “high,” despite clearly stating that we would be driving in rural areas and not in London. Her response to this was, “Well, don’t say you haven’t been warned.” Even more shocking was when she gloated that if we had an accident — even minor damage — Green Motion would charge £2,000 to our credit card and “let the insurance companies fight it out.” She stated outright that this is “a great way for us to make money.” This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the ethics and transparency of your business practices. Furthermore, the staff member appeared disorganised, asking us repeatedly (at least seven times) whether she had scanned our documents. Her lack of focus was unprofessional and made the process feel chaotic and unreliable. To add to the frustration, she initially claimed we had not paid for an additional driver — which we had — and offered no apology after we presented proof of payment. It is clear to me that Green Motion advertises low headline rental rates only to overwhelm customers with hidden fees and pressure them into costly insurance upgrades through fear-based tactics. This experience felt deceptive, unprofessional, and frankly exploitative.

Very bad Company!!! Our plane was delayd, we could`t pick up the car on the time that was on the voucher. When we phoned them nobody answers, (not even on the SOS number!) they were closed. The car was reserved and payed for 11 days, so we went there next morning. They did not give us a car because we where not there on the time on the voucher. We did not receive a car and also not receive our money back. They said: you are not the first, and you will not be the last...

Terrible!!!! Don’t do it. Their prices are not as low as advertised. The price doubles with insurance and fees once you’re in the office. Customer service is slow and apathetic.

Rented in Rome FCO for 1 week. Super shady when returned the car they tried to charge for damages that were already on the car. When I showed them pictures and videos that I took before renting they wouldn't accept them unless they were all time stamped and in certain file formats it was crazy. They also modified documents after I signed them. Crazy crazy. Do not use this company.

The people at Stansted Airport were great, however follow up admin was terrible, I presume by the central admin office. I received 2PCN'while I was the rentee of the car. 1) A parking fine from Stansted Airport Drop and collect. This incurred a 68 pound 'Admin Fee'. However I forwarded a the payment receipt of 7 pounds which is the fee for up to 15 minutes. However the payment with all the details were correct with the exception of the time. The time stamp was approximiately one hour before I picked up the car. ( I am assuming my phone was on Spanish time and printed it from there). However Stansted Airport acknowledged the mistake and withdrew the fine. 2) Dart Crossing charge. I entered the incorrect Licence numberplate of the car. However when notified of the mistake, I recified it and paid the 2.50 fee again with the incorrect one returned to my account Green motion incurred another 128.00 'Admin Fee'. Furthermore upon hiring the car a 125.00 blocking fee was taken, and to quote 'incase of parking or speeding fines'. This has also been withdrawn from my account. So for a 2.50 toll charge and a 7.00 parking fee,( both of which were paid in the allotted time), I have ended up paying 270.50 GBP. My question is this: Why do Green Motion not look after their customers. All they had to do was go online any pay the fees using my deposit? Sure I would be angry for paying twice = 19.00GBP, but not as angry as paying 270.50GBP! It took less than a minute to pay each one of these payments online. I am sure it is quicker than all the time they have spent communicating with me and the companies in order for the fines to be sent to me. This is the worst Customer Service possible and in my opinion is just a scam. Edit Delete

I used my Visa debit card to pay the £120.00 damage waiver cover and was told it would take 5 to 6 weeks to be refunded. The car was returned without any damage as I only had the car for two days. It is now almost 2 months and I still haven't had the deposit returned.

Although the staff were friendly and the process was ok, getting our deposit which is refundable as paid for the top insurance back is another matter. Our car was returned on the 5th June 2025 and we are still waiting for the return of £125.

Assistant who carried out my car hire,instead of putting my holding deposit of £1505.00 as pending he put it through as a payment. I am now having my bank trying to retrieve my deposit, because your company won't return my calls very disappointed with your service. Unable to talk to anyone.

Steer well clear of this company. What they are not up front about is the length of time it takes to get your deposit back. When I retuned the car I was told it would be between 3 and 30 days. Forget the 3 days they hang on to your money as long as they can. You get a different response depending on who you are talking to.

Unfortunately had very bad experience with a Green Motion this time. I returned the car at Riga’s airport on the 21st of May and in a couple of day got the full deposit (€1000) back which my understanding everything was fine. As well they sent me a link to leave a review 😬 After another few days I noticed that €40 has gone from my credit card. When I contacted the Green Motion I was informed that it was for “car cleaning as it was returned dirty”. I’m sticking the pictures for you all to see that that mean by “dirty”. I did wash the car before and obviously had to drive back to Riga’s airport. Bear in mind as well they are charging extra (£50) for crossing any border! It’s the last time I was using Green Motion. They are trying to rip of customers for ANYTING just to get some profit 🫣

I rented a car from Green Motion during my stay in England. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER! I received a fine for accidentally driving in a bus lane. If I paid the fine within 15 days, I would only have to pay 50%. However, I only received the fine from GreenMotion 3 weeks later so I had to pay 100%. In addition, they charge £68 administration fee just for forwarding the fine. The fine was £70 and the administration fee £68. That is apparently your business model.

Extremely Disappointed – Still Waiting for Refund After Over a Month I’ve been waiting over a month to receive my £1,505 deposit back from Green Motion. Despite multiple emails and repeated promises, the refund has still not been issued. This is a clear breach of our contract, which stated the deposit would be returned within 7 to 30 days. To make matters worse, I’m now being charged interest on the credit card I used for the deposit. The lack of follow-through and accountability is unacceptable. Their business practices are unprofessional and deeply frustrating. Attempts to reach CEO Richard Lowden have gone nowhere, and customer service has been unhelpful. Honestly, one star feels generous. I would strongly advise others to avoid this company.
