As an "intermediate" pianist, I took the "harmony games" course, and the material was good, the lessons were interesting, but there was about 15 seconds of video to repeat for each chord change, where they have the rhythm section. I appreciated the sheet music notes and the workbook, but I really wish there was a seperate backing track, even if it was a midi one, just to practice each of the concepts in time with rhythm, ideally in every key. The course moves very fast if you're not already a rather advanced player who picks up new concepts impressively quickly. Having said that; for 27 dollars it was a no brainer.

Great platform but I miss the $27 courses as opposed to subscription. We are overloaded with subscriptions these days, so I only buy stand alone courses/lessons!

The Harmony Games course is based on an understanding of a common concept for a range of chord progressions which is new for me and this understanding is interesting for me to come into. This is good and possible for me to handle in the first parts. However, I realise that I need some weeks to get the whole concept under my skin. It is kind of a meditation. I would have appreciated that you had included the notes of the small licks and thrills Adam is using and then I would have been able to learn from this too. I have given a score of 8 because I like the course, but I do not have any friends or colleagus interested in this topic. So the true answer is that I would not recommend it to anyone meaning zero score.

I really like openstudio, I think it's a great platform to learn jazz and develop more integrally as an artist. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable, is that during some lessons, the teacher while explaining something basic, unexpectedly starts playing scales and chords, extremely difficult, to make a point... That confuses me a lot... It's like taking basic physics classics, and then the teacher suddenly starts explaining the quantum laws of the multiverse, and then unexpectedly goes back to the basic physics of pulleys. Anyway I am very grateful for the opportunity to take classes with the great teachers at openstudio. I would like to see more female teachers who are not just singers in the lessons. Regards. J.

Anything you want to know about Jazz or learn how to play Jazz, Open Studio has you covered. The lessons are "crazy good" and presented in a great format always presented with a fantastic instructor. The only thing that I would like added to the program is a pathway through the maze of great info. Perhaps you could qualify members as to their playing level and knowledge of jazz and then send recommendations or suggestions that would support that individuals experience.

Everything is awesome. I just feel that sometimes you go to fast (Peter mainly). The guided practice sessions, are not really guided practice sessions, because still too fast. It is somthing in between a lesson and a practice session, which is good as an encouragement for a practice session. But it is not a guided practice session. Thanks for all and congratulation for the great professionaly

Content was great, but I needed a more structured approach to get from beginner to intermediate. Have started using “jazz piano school” courses, since it’s better for beginners (has excellent practice sessions with sheet music). I look forward to returning to Open Studio when I’ve improved my skills.

Good variety, positive energy. It would be nice if Peter slowed things down first to teach concepts or show lines, so I wouldn't have to rewind and slow down the player multiple times just to figure out what he's doing. I'd also like to see him demonstrate how to build an arrangement. For example, take a simple standard or pop tune, play the melody, then add chords, bass, etc and show step by step what he's adding to the arrangement.

Great broad selection of courses. Easy PDF print outs Generally the teachers talk too much before the real practice is shown.

Open studio is very useful and covers a wide range of styles and material for study. I would like the mobile site to be a little better made..

Loving Open Studio. The content is fantastic and these guys are absolute masters at what they teach with methods and new thought approaches that revolutionise learning. In some cases these methods have shaved hours and hours off the previous approaches I had taken, and I have already had many a 'penny drop' moment. Not a fault of the instructors but their latest website upgrade has a few problems. Sometimes videos just freeze. And search results on site don't always match the search queries made. Downloaded PDFs could be better labelled too, sometimes they are just named something like 'lesson 4', which doesn't mean much when you come to search for them later. Otherwise absolutely brilliant though!
