I’ve been a member of Open Studio for about two months now, and it has already been a very fun and inspiring experience. Before joining I had taken some lessons with a teacher and studied from books and random videos, but I often struggled to organize everything and make real sense of it. Open Studio helped me start putting the pieces together in a more practical way. Adam Maness is an incredible teacher. He has a way of explaining things that makes them feel clear and approachable. Even though it’s still early for me to fully measure my progress, I can already feel that I’m growing. It has also influenced the way I think about music in general, and that has helped me as a classical piano teacher too. The community is another big part of the experience. It’s motivating to see others learning, sharing, and evolving. You don’t feel alone in the process. I would recommend Open Studio Jazz to anyone, at any level. It’s a place where you can grow, stay inspired, and genuinely enjoy the journey.

I am moving at a snail’s pace and so the lessons recorded work well with my current availability. I appreciate the avenues for live and corresponding communication as well. I am in my last 17 months of work as a teacher winding down and looking forward to retiring in June of 2027 so I will have more congruent time to focus on playing. U til then this is a wonderful resource even at the slow pace I am using it.

Loved the structure of Piano Jumpstart. It felt great to be playing something jazzy right away rather than slogging through technique early on. Looking forward to continuing the courses

It feels great to be among other enthusiasts, all working on their crafts. I appreciate the deep learning readily available from courses and live "The Hang" sessions. The community aspect cannot be overstated! What makes the crucial difference (and why I'll be renewing) is the guided practice sessions. Concepts are foundational, yet it's practice that makes them stick. Adam and all the instructors seem down-to-earth and genuine in their dedication to their art of teaching concepts and fielding questions, though I'm sure they've been asked similar questions many times. I appreciate your patience and enthusiasm. Love jazz, love Open Studio!

So far so good. Working on the jazz piano jump start.Working on the American jazz standard so far. I have been playing for many years but have a lot of holes in understanding the theory behind the harmonies. I thank thats what I need to understand. The 2-5-1 progression made sence to me in the excample in the AABA form. now I see how you can go into another key fast and then leave it again fast and go in to the original key again. Also great explanation when the four Dominant chords E7-A7.D7 and G7 moves in 4 and go back to the key of C again. Now I see that picture and understand it.One think that have made me feel like quitting the piano is when all those teachers telleng you to practice in all 12 keys.It like having the feeling of getting no were and just waisting time. We want to have fun while we are learning. I think that what we need is a deep understanding of chord progressions. Not only diatonic chord progressions but all kind of progressions that you see in music.Make some lessons in chord progressions beginning jazz pop progressions and the built form there. That could be cool.Chord progressions with nice voice leading. Passing chords borred chords and so on. That will help a lot of people to understand how music works. To many different piano approaches just make it more confusing. But i Love the jump start course so far. On thing I think would be great is if you would make the sheets writting out for all the excamples. The American standard for dont have the shell voicings so I can print it out. It would help not just me but many people. great so far . Thanks. Jimmy from Denmark

I love your content. You guys are the best. I am no where near the level of technical or theoretical ability that Open Studio musicians are, but I am able to digest a lot of concepts and apply them to my own music. Thank you!

Been playing guitar for 35 years (jazz for the last 25) before buying a digital piano and hopping onto the Piano Jump Start course as soon as I unpacked it. Loving it! Adam, Peter, Bob, and Caleb bring with wisdom and enthusiasm with each lesson. I've got a LONG way to go before I can halfway play the piano. But with the Open Studio gang, I know I'm on the right path.

I love you guys but not everyone is a scratch piano player.. Most guys in Golf, Tennis or Piano are trying to get better. You would reach a larger audience by adding more advance beginner to intermediate level programs. Don't get me wrong everyone wishes they could play like you guys.

I like the way the stuff is taught. Musical, pedagogical and with a good understanding of the "student's" point of view. I especially like the sessions where you get the opportunity to play with the accompaniment of the two talented, patient gentlemen: drums and bass. Keep it up! John Høybye
