I’ve been a member of Open Studio for about two months now, and it has already been a very fun and inspiring experience. Before joining I had taken some lessons with a teacher and studied from books and random videos, but I often struggled to organize everything and make real sense of it. Open Studio helped me start putting the pieces together in a more practical way. Adam Maness is an incredible teacher. He has a way of explaining things that makes them feel clear and approachable. Even though it’s still early for me to fully measure my progress, I can already feel that I’m growing. It has also influenced the way I think about music in general, and that has helped me as a classical piano teacher too. The community is another big part of the experience. It’s motivating to see others learning, sharing, and evolving. You don’t feel alone in the process. I would recommend Open Studio Jazz to anyone, at any level. It’s a place where you can grow, stay inspired, and genuinely enjoy the journey.

Loving It! What I appreciate most about Open Studio is that the focus is always on music. The lessons connect theory, ear training, rhythm, and real playing in a way that feels natural and inspiring. It's rare to find educational content that is both deep and immediately usable.

You have the most excellent website ever! I appreciated, very much, the discount I received. I have just turned 70, and still actively play "lounge piano" in central Florida. It is just too bad, I did not have access to this type of education 50 years ago! I am a good piano player, but if I had this long ago, I would have be great! Peter and Adam are not only great players, but really good teachers. I am a retired high school teacher, and the lessons prepared are understandable, easily reviewable, and produced in a way to make learning fun. I especially like the jazz piano section, where I could learn to play nice arrangements of the standard tunes, explained so nicely. It is always neat to see another version with great chords and unique changes. The only reason I had to cancel was due to the fact that I hadn't used it as much as previously, and being on a fixed income, I had to reduce costs . I also enjoyed the history of the songs, and jazz in general, when the lessons are being given. The context makes it all the more worthwhile. One last comment. Of course you been concentrating on the jazz pianists and standards. Being an old guy, I think it would be worthwhile for Peter and Adam to investigate some of the "Big Band" and 1950's pianists. Some of these guys were unbelievable artists, who could do much more than jazz. Growing up, I listened to Peter Nero, Stanly Black, Vincent Lopez, Roger Williams, and my favorite of all time, Carmen Cavallaro. If you have not heard of Carmen, just look him up, and listen to his amazing technique. In addition, when he recorded with his trio, he usually played every song in 3 keys. I would think if you could "spread your wings" a little more, to include what these guys did, it would indeed open up a whole new world for you. Joe Mankowski

Hello everyone, Open Studio is exactly the forum/platform I had been looking for. It even fills gaps in my piano playing that I wasn’t aware of myself. I’ve been studying jazz for about five years now. Due to shoulder injuries, I was barely able to play piano for nearly three of those years. Fortunately, I could still sing, and through music theory I’ve built up a solid foundation in jazz. Open Studio is really helping me now to put in the hours on piano again and refine my technique: scales, enclosures, chords, pivots, etc. The material is extremely well structured. The Foundations and Expansions courses clearly show how to apply all of this in an actual song context. I’m personally very interested in developing further in vocal jazz as well: scat singing, vocal technique, interpretation, and so on. Are there any plans to expand the vocal side of the platform in the same way as the piano curriculum? I would also love to learn more about piano accompaniment for singers. Many thanks in advance and greetings from Belgium Lien Vansteenkiste

It’s very good. At first I was intimidated seeing notes but as I went thru the lesson it made more sense and the keys were taught that coincided with the notes. (It has been a long time since I read music. Drum school was in early 90s, I’m 41 now.)

I'm not a piano player but love jazz piano so I signed up to the jazz piano jump start and it is brilliant! Everything is explained so well and what makes a big difference and what I like the most are the guided practice sessions. I'll be signing up to the whole ste as soon as I finish this excellent course.

Just what I needed to expand intyo jazz from clasical piano. Very clear teaching with plenty of opportunties to practice and learn. It may have been 60 years ago but I can still do the chromatic scales!!
