“Same as everyone else here:
Money will be charged when tutor agrees to the lesson - no it’s immediately taken from your account and a monthly direct debit set up. Just to message a teacher.
Charge can be refunded if no lesson took place - my tutor ‘confirmed’ (I guess by pressing a button on their end) but with a message that they were currently ill and will get back to me at an unspecified date.
Despite this being a reason for refund in their T&Cs they are refusing because the teacher might be able to teach me at some unspecified future point.
Total money-grabbing scam and so shocking that they have so many people in the same position as me but still such a large internet presence.”
“Superprof is a scam. You are charged a monthly fee for using their platform. You, the student, pay $49, and the teachers pay nothing. Also, I used one of their instructors, who made me drive to her house for the appointment, only to cancel it when I arrived. She withdrew the appointment the second time. I scheduled an 8 am appointment, and she accepted it; I had to call her to find out if the meeting was going to happen; basically, she forgot and told me she thought it was 8 p.m. I paid but received no lessons. Never again, I had no idea I was being charged $49 per month for keeping my account active without using the platform for a full two months. They never allow customers to review their website because they know lots of people will give them a bad review.”
“As other comments here say, Superprof turned out to be a scam. I had luck though. I had the first free lesson with my student and he bought a “pack” of 10 lessons ahead, over $300 which he sent to Superprof. We agreed on the first lesson but the student got sick so we didn’t have it, but the money had to be transferred to my account after that. However, i didn’t get anything. Meanwhile we agreed on the second lesson with the student, he didn’t manage to be present again but it counted as the second lesson so I thought the money should be transferred this time, it’s been almost 2 weeks. Instead Superprof wrote me that the money was transferred, in fact nothing was transferred. I wrote to the Customer support and it took them minimum 10 days to reply each time i wrote to them, without any explanation, they blamed it on Paypal.
Well it was a sad experience, but even sadder for my student. Btw, he couldn’t get his money back either.”
“Be careful with this company. They provide an extremely poor level of service. There is misleading information on the website.
If you don't use their service you will never get your money back. Every month they will charge you the full amount for services they don't provide.
This is the worst service that exists on this planet.”
“Wish I had checked the reviews before. You assume it is a listings service but when you contact the tutors you are automatically charged a "student pass " of £29 which then renews on a monthly basis. I feel totally SCAMMED - this business model is not made clear on the home page. No quality control over tutors either. AVOID AVOID AVOID.”
“Agreed with the 1 star reviews - a TOTAL SCAM. You think you're contacting a tutor who gets paid via them (less a commission); in the small print you're actually signing up to a monthly rolling contract of £29 - the only benefit of which is to be access the listings and contact the unvetted tutors who advertise their services via them. AVOID AVOID AVOID.”
“Absolutely the pits! No instructor agreed to a lesson, ever, and I was charged $39 monthly anyway. Now I don't know how to cancel! Ripoff! Stay away!”
“They deceive you by telling you the first lesson is free, but you cannot arrange it without being forced to pay £29 for a whole month - I arranged no lesson and got charged anyway - even when they disputed the transaction they lied and said my bank's confirmation of payment wasn't delivered to them - do your own research, find the names of tutors on superprof without signing up - then research the names you find on Google/Linkedin etc. etc.
I look forward to their rubbish, lying, defensive reply to my review - I hope somebody takes them to court soon”
“I paid $39.00 upfront for a tutor but none of them were available! Then they refused to refund my money per their "agreement"!
Now I have to spend my time and energy disputing the charge on my credit card!”
“I accidentally signed up for the subscription, thinking I was paying for ONE lesson.
The teacher never gave me the first lesson, and I didn't have any lessons on that site.
After I discover they had been charging me £29 month they refused to refund me, £120 out the window, disgusting.”
“Please don't fall for their subscription. They charge $39 monthly even if you're not looking for a teacher or you couldn't find a teacher. It's a scam.”
“I do not recommend taking teachers through this platform, as they charge 29 pounds to have access to teachers, who will not always accept the demo class. In addition, I ended up taking this Student pass without a clear notion that I would be charged for it, even less than would be monthly charged. I was charged for three months without realizing it, I asked for a refund and they refused to give the money back, not even a transfer was made the same day I asked for a refund. From my perspective, this is a scam. Other than that, a while ago I had chosen a teacher, I had to choose the dates I would like to have class without knowing if she could teach them, finally, they removed the amount from my account immediately and the teacher was not available. I had who are after getting a refund, again I say it all looks like a big SCAM.”
“Total SCAM! Don’t use!! 🙅♀️
I used in January to find a tutor. We connected and I have paid her directly ever since. Today I found out that they have charged me 399SEK (about 32 pounds) per month since then. I contacted my teacher who said that she has not received a penny from Superprof. It is a total of 2000SEK (162 pounds) down the drain!!
They are lying on their website see photo, it says “To be able to pay your teacher, you must register a payment method”.
I cannot delete my credit card on their website so I contacted my bank and I must block my credit card to ensure that they cannot charge me anymore.”
