I subscribed after a trip to Tokyo - my children enjoyed the snacks I brought back, so I thought it would be fun to recreate the experience monthly. The boxes get repetitive fast. They find a way to make any snack fit into any theme. "These crackers are round, like Christmas ornaments." "The cracker's round shape reminds us of Halloween pumpkins." I made the mistake of subscribing for a year and not deselecting 'Auto-renew.' After I saw a $540 charge on my AMEX for renewal, I canceled but was informed that I would not be refunded. On the plus side, I'll be receiving the same snacks every month until 2025. Looking forward to getting round crackers that remind Tokyo Treat of Easter Eggs in March.

BEWARE! The product, delivery and responses are good, BUT it is a purchase that renews automatically. You don't have a way to opt out unless you contact them to cancel the account. By then you might have been charged again and they will not refund anything. A total unfair money grab, and overpriced for what you get.

A few years ago we were subscribers and were very satisfied with the packages. This year we made a subscription again and unfortunately, the level of subscription has dropped significantly. In the first half of the year, the boxes arrived late and the products were partly not fresh, the price is not reasonable to the real cost of the products. I was in Japan so I know the real prices and the difference. You Choose cheap snacks, and there are amazing and special snacks in Japan, it's obvious that you don't really try to bring the best. And the most annoying, two packages were missing snacks, I tried to find a simple way to reach customer service... while on other sites it is very easy and simple and accessible, here, I had to search a lot, the it is not easy and immediate to find the email or chat to talk to you.... When I already found and sent feedback about one of the boxes, no compensation was offered other than a request that I send a photo with the box and the snacks. Since it was a week later, the box was already in the trash. Therefore we did not receive compensation. I canceled the subsciption but it was ignored and i have to keep getting the boxes till the end of the year. Customer service is very important! And with you i had a very bad experianse. Both because of the difficulty of finding the way to contact with real person and also because of the response i got. I will no longer renew the subscription...

I signed up for 6 months for a birthday gift. It was $400, but she really wanted that. They've charged my card for another $276 because I didn't "cancel" the service. Companies that operate like this are shady, and I'm unlikely to do business with them every again.

They won’t give me my money back after charging my card without my consent very bad dishonest company would not recommend they won’t cancel my order even though I cancelled my subscription

I signed up for a year (discounted boxes for a longer subscription why not), not knowing I'd be charged for the full year up front. After reaching out to the team (all I wanted to do was cancel and go back for the 1 month option), I was refused any help and told there was nothing that could be done. And if I didn't accept the box, another would be shipped at my cost. After reaching out to my bank, I was once again told nothing could be done, AND tokyotreat also magically stopped my boxes and walked away with my money. If you're thinking of trying them out, don't.

This is a scam company. The items are low quality and are not worth the price at all. Once you are subsribed you cannot leave, they will hold you hostage and offer NO refunds at all. One of my boxes never arrived, so as 'compensation' they tossed in a 12 yen (1p) item as an apology. This was insulting and offensive on all accounts, so I am now in the (difficult) process to get my deserved refund and cancellation. Stay away from this business and do not support them.

They sign you up for an auto renewal. I'm out $150 because my daughter is moving and they refuse to stop it even though I contacted them the day the auto renewal went through.

I purchased a 6-month prepaid "gift" subscription for my friends for their wedding. While the product itself is fine I cannot recommend the service at all. There are additional charges not stated in the original price for delivery each time. In addition, customs where I live, Ireland charge my friends each time a box is delivered to them. This has been quite embarrassing for both me and my friends as you hardly expect for someone to be charged each time they receive a gift. The possibility of customs charges were not made aware to me when purchasing. Customer services have been extremely unhelpful thus far in helping with this issue. I would recommend looking elsewhere as I've seen some similar companies claim to provide free worldwide shipping. Whereas with this company both the sender and recipient will be charged for each "gift"

Inflexible refund policy and poor customer support.

Buyer beware! If you sign up for a subscription service, you will NOT be reminded about it before it debits your account. And they will not refund you your money if this happens. They prey on customers who don't remember something they subscribed to 6 or 12 months prior to the next renewal. This is shady business & a terrible way to treat customers. So disappointed.

I purchased a six-month pre-paid plan that comes with free shipping. After I received the first box, COVID happens and the shipping method they used was affected. Back then I was told I have the option to skip some boxes until the free shipping can be resumed or pay an additional $10+ for each box for a new shipping method. Months later, they changed their policy and canceled the free shipping method and I am forced to pay $10+ for shipping for each box. And they refuse a refund. This is ridiculous.

I'm leaving my original review below, because I was very happy at the start. However, things changed once I decided to cancel. I went through the cancellation process a few days before renewal. I didn't realize it at the time, but I did not receive a confirmation email. The renewal came up a couple days later and they charged my credit card and renewed my subscription for 3 months. I immediately cancelled (again) and emailed them to ask for a refund, since I had tried to cancel before and they hadn't shipped anything yet. They flat out refuse, and if you try to get them to refund you (Even before they ship) they tell you too bad, and basically tell you that you're dumb because they told you there's no refunds. Ever. EVER. I tried to work with them multiple times, asking nicely for a refund for a service that hasn't even begun, and they refuse with the same uncaring answers. If you search around the web or like Reddit for "Tokyo Treat cancellation scam" you'll see a million other complaints. Avoid this company at all costs. The only way to get my money back for a service I didn't want and product that hasn't shipped is via credit card chargeback. Ridiculous. Also note that while my first order arrived early, all subsequent orders arrived weeks late and much of the stuff inside was stale. --- Everything went quick and smoothly and my order arrived ahead of time via DHL! The selection is amazing with sweet and savory treats and I can’t wait to dive in.

I took their Premium 12 Month Prepay Plan. It was ok for the first 10 boxes even if they did not honor the content all the time... But when Covid hit and japanPost stop working we were ask if we wanted to wait or pay a premium on each boxes (https://help.tokyotreat.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059099914--Important-Major-Shipping-Method-Updates-) I decided to wait and they told me they would get back to me. 2 month later, they tried to renew my subscription but fail (I have trust issues and for good reasons). Of course they have a loyalty program and since they could not renew my plan I lost my benefits but whatever. 14 month later, I contact them to get some news and I'm told nothing has changed; if I want my 32$ box, I need to fork 12.5$ of shipping per box. I asked them to refund the last 2 boxes but was denied. I've since switch to another more authentic Japanese snacks box and now I can compare and Tokyotreat was worse than I thought; the new box is better in quality, the shipping is free WITH tracking (optional and costly at Tokyotreat) and guess what... JapanPost works. Don't waste your time with TokyoTreat and have an unpleasant experience; there is so much better out there. Franckly all this is not worth my time but I'll post it around to warn people.

Poor quality They take money They have issues with the authorities from countries they send packages and they know about each and every situation but when you encounter something that can't be solved they just act dumb I sued them, with a company from Hague, hoping to ban them at least in my country.

They removed my maximum streak from my Tokyo Treat account after a payment dispute with my wife on her completely different account (no make no life) and card. Wouldn’t reinstate it either, so I unsubscribed and wouldn’t resubscribe either. Happily with a competitor now.

After waiting over a year for delivery and many requests for replacements I still am being told to wait. This is totally unacceptable. Any reputable company would just replace the missing items! Do not order from this company!
