Be VERY CAREFUL when reading their tricky policies. I intended to ordered just one box and therefore chose the "1-month" plan which seemed like the obvious choice as opposed to the 3-month or 6-month options. It never once occurred to me that this meant I would be getting a box every month (at a higher price than if agreed to 3 months). Why would I think there would be an actual subscription attached to a 1-month order. When I got the notice that my second box was being shipped I tried to contact them immediately which is impossible because they have set up their contact system in a way that is anything but simple. More than 24 hours after I sent a message telling them that I had no intention of ever subscribing and to cancel immediately, they shipped out the box anyway. Again, this was more than a full day after I cancelled. I have been going back and forth with them for two weeks now and they refuse to refund my money. I refuse to pay. I can't believe a company with any scruples would let a dispute like this get this far.

Could have gotten 5 stars but now my experience is ruined by the surprise 6 months renewal that I cannot afford. Don't fall into this trap and cancel your subscription one month before it runs out.

First time ordering. After the charge on the invoice came through another one appeared a few days later for $10.50. Just beware there is a separate shipping fee per box that is not disclosed at checkout. Mine is 10.50 per box which adds a significant amount that was not disclosed on the invoice.

I am more than disappointed 😞. I ordered my box on the 16.11. They say on there website the box will be shipped within 2-5 days. After 7 days nothing happened. The CS just said sorry and they take care of it. 5 days after that still nothing happens. So I wrote then again. The answer after 10 days after I ordered was : your box will be packed now. Than 4 days after that I get the email that is was shipped. But I could not find any shipping number. So I wrote them again. And now the surprise "they send it without any tracking with normal surface mail" are you kidding me? So this box won't arrive on time and without tracking it probably will never arrive. The worst thing I ever experienced. Lets see how they will handle a refund.

Customer service is terrible. Double charged for one month and they didn't do anything, plus then they cancelled one version and left the other going, but completely ruined my streak and wouldn't fix it. Treat meh, you should probably try another company.

I am not satisfied If the package is lost or stolen, they don't care .... They do not return the day! Don't offer a discount or coupon! It's just your problem ....

I forgot to cancel my monthly subscription and they charged it without any message. This is going to be my 4th box but didnt want it cause im no longer working so i better save money. I sent emails to them but they told me it was impossible to cancel it. The box didn't shipped so it was absolutely possible. Thank god they say on its webpage they're a comprehensive company... This is the last time I'm ordering with them. You should think it twice and remember to cancel the subscription.

If you sign up for the standard box, you should expect that most of the items each month will be some form of corn puffs—likely because they are cheap to ship. Also, a couple of the items every month are a single, small candy or a single piece of chewing gum. Basically, the value is super low, given how expensive it is. Also, shipping to the US is charged separately now, so in addition to paying for your subscription and shipping up front, you will also get a separate credit card charge each month for shipping. Tokyo Treat seems to make its money by auto-renewing subscriptions early and then refusing to cancel the next term. Pretty much a waste of money and a scam.

This is a predatory company. You must go through 4 different steps on 4 different pages to cancel your account. There is no customer support number to call. And there are absolutely no refunds. They simply charge you after the fact and there is nothing you can do about it. I have tried to cancel my subscription multiple times now and can't get out!

I ordered 3 x 3 month subscriptions from Tokyo Treats. I paid extra for delivery Due to COVID19 - 2 deliveries never arrived. I asked for replacements but was told to wait for courier delivery to turn up and be patient. I have been waiting since May - 5 months is very disappointing. Bad service and no accountability for items lost during shipping!

Total SCAM. I initially subscribed to the box because of the fun thought and because I was supposed to get a special mug with my box if I “subscribed now!” Yea, never got that “special mug”. Also, there is a SURPRISE shipping fee that was never stated on their website of $10-13 PER MONTH. I emailed them about this and basically they said “You can pay the shipping or not get your box until COVID-19 is over”. To make things even worse...I told them I didn’t want to start another subscription with them after my initial was finished AND THEY STILL CHARGED ME. Fighting back and forth with them they still refuse to give me my money back even tho I haven’t received any boxes and won’t prorate. This is a very dishonest way of doing business. They have terrible customer service. Customer service basically just says “too bad you already paid. We don’t give refunds.” The customer support page is a nightmare to find...and they really don’t care to help their customers and don’t care about customer satisfaction. The boxes themselves...mediocre. A lot of my snacks came popped or just had bags of crumbs. Some of the chocolates were stale too and tasted old. Do NOT order from this company. They are dishonest and this is a SCAM. Hoping this review can save other people from wasting their hard-earned money.

Its a fun idea and some of the treats are interesting, but their customer service is horrible. The value is over priced though as most of the things can be purchased cheaper elsewhere. If you miss cancelling your subscription you're on the hook for the entire cost. Even if you reach out immediately, they will not pro-rate a refund. What's worse is once you create an account with them, you can never delete the account. Your information is there forever. I'd leave a better review if only they had better service.

https://tokyotreat.com/ DON'T BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! I HAVE BEEN IN A DISPUTE OVER A BOX I DID NOT RECEIVE BACK IN MAY. I PURCHASED THE INSURANCE AND EVERYTHING! FINALLY THEY AGREED IN SEPTEMBER TO GIVE ME CREDIT TO USE. I TRIED TO USE IT BUT IT DID NOT SHOW UP. MEANWHILE I HAD WHAT APPEARED TO BE A DOUBLE CHARGE FOR SHIPPING AND SO I QUESTIONED MY CARD COMPANY. THEY RECEIVE INFORMATION THAT THEY WERE 2 DIFFRENT TRANSACTIONS SO THEY DENIED THE REFUND, NO BIG DEAL. NOW TOKYOTREAT IS REFUSING ANY CREDIT ON THE INSURED MISSING BOX! THEY SAID I HAVE TO DISPUTE WITH MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY. THE PURCHASE FOR THE BOX WAS OVER A YEAR AGO AS A 12 MONTH SUBSCRIPTION WHICH MEANS THEY WONT ALLOW ME TO DESPUTE. EVEN MOST OTHER BOXES HAD MELTED CHOCOLATE WHEN IT ARRIVED. DUE TO COVID WE DID NOT HAVE TRACKING AVALIABLE (WE PAID EXTRA FOR), INSURANCE NOT HONORED (PAID EXTRA FOR), AND HAD TO PAY EXTA EVERY MONTH FOR SHIPPING. RIP OFF COMPANY!

MAJOR FLAWS in Customer Service and Customer Portal. It seems they intentionally built a low-grade portal to prevent customers from easily accessing important subscription & payment information. At NO GIVEN TIME in the previous weeks/days did this company have the courtesy to provide their customers the OPPORTUNITY to review their subscription renewal, especially when charging another 12-months – and then to not consider some kind of refund is quite off-putting. I was already charged extra for DHL services during COVID (though I had tried to decline), and did not complain about those charges. Considering I replied within 24-hours of receiving payment confirmation of charges, I am extremely disappointed in the level of customer service provided by this business.

Bad customer service! Rebilled for a box I did not want in March and I still have not received it despite over 20+ emails back and forth with customer service. Increasing shipping prices without approval from the customer and charging from free (in march) to 5.95 to 10.95 per box on top of the premium price. No help from customer service over 7 months and no desire to keep happy customers. Not worth the effort or the money as soon as anything goes wrong.

I want to give them 4 stars for being a bit overpriced but full of great snacks and unique stuff I'd have to go to Japan to try. I don't even have an issue with the increased $11/mo I paid for Covid shipping because it's to be expected. Here's what happened: I accidentally charged a second subscription thinking I could renew my subscription early to get a promotional KitKat item. Stupid me, right? Thankfully their kind customer service rep was nice enough to offer a store credit refund that would sit there when my recurring payment comes up. Cool. Easy fix. I got two duplicate boxes because of my idiocy, but that's fine. They didn't give me store credit. They charged me when the recurring payment came up. Now, I was stuck with TWO YEARS of payments. Guess what the next customer service rep ('cause I closed the ticket, thinking it was solved) response was? If you read other negative reviews, you know: they refuse to refund my money. All they can offer is store credit. They claimed that I agreed to pay when I signed up under their terms and conditions. THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE. The issue is your shady company lied to me and never gave me store credit so you could charge me again! I'm about to do a chargeback on them but I'm giving them a last chance to fix the problem and refund my money. I doubt this shady business will do that. I highly suggest you don't bother with this company. The products are great, though expensive, but the customer service is shady at best. They also do lowbrow things like offer a prize entry for writing a 5 star review of them.

We requested a 3 month subscription and were pretty happy with it despite the fact that the initial charge of $100.50 apparently doesn't include the cost of shipping and were then charged an additional $10.95 for every box. (That's $44.45 per box which is rather steep for what it is. Several other boxes are half the price) But what really put us off was that apparently the subscription auto renews, which is fair enough, but there was no notification or communication prior to this happening. The moment my card was charged I was notified by my card and I filed a ticket with TokyoTreat and was told there was nothing they could do despite the fact that they hadn't shipped anything yet. "Subscription cancellation won't affect the current order, it will only affect the next order. We will still ship the boxes that you have paid for and can't refund it." Abysmal customer service and their pricing/charging system could use some clarification.

Do. Not. Order. From. Toyko. Treat. ToykoTreat is hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with and now with the current world events, they have an excuse to blame everything on! I ordered my first box in April and it arrived within 2 weeks, so I thought great! And looked forward to the next months one... That was 'shipped out' April 20th after they charged your card $5 for 'better' shipping due to delays with COVID-19. I then started to look at some of their reviews/twitter mentions/facebook comments and started to realise that a lot of people were missing out on their boxes. This didn't concern me at first because I had received my first box pretty quick. Anyways... 13 weeks later... no box. I emailed and emailed and just kept getting the same response of 'its on the way' 'I can guarantee you its making its way to you'... although funnily enough you're never given any tracking whatsoever. It doesn't matter how late the box is or if its lost, they will NEVER EVER give you a refund. After 18 weeks, I opened a dispute with PayPal and ToykoTreat's response was too provide tracking info, which didn't even say it had been picked up by the courier?!?!?! How was this allowed? You should be ashamed of yourselves. I managed to chargeback the payment and anyone else waiting, I recommend you do the same, PayPal seem to be aware of their shady business practices and I got my refund pretty quick. I will never order from them again and I will never let any of my friends do the same. Order from JapanCrate as the community says they are better anyways and at least you will actually receive customer service. In the end they just gave me a copy and paste email, nothing to say sorry for all the delays, no sending out another box, no nothing.
