My wife and I had rented a car using rentalcars.com. The pickup was at CTA Airport (Sicily). The company we chose was GoldCar. The kind and available (yet helpless) representative could not fix the issue created by rentalcars.com allowing to rent a car despite not having the mandatory prerequisites for a successful rental (International Driving License). Before anyone could checkout on the site, there must be a full-page, blocking overlay where users can't proceed further unless they had fully read and confirmed with more than one checkbox under the message stating "TO RENT THIS CAR YOU MUST HAVE AN EU-ISSUED DRIVING LICENSE. ANYONE LIVING OUTSIDE THE EU MUST HAVE AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENSE OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PICK UP THE CAR! In short: My wife rented the car and is a US citizen. She was never told she MUST HAVE an INTL. Driving License in order to be able to pick up the car at GoldCar therefore we found out at the teller on the day we went to pick up the car!!! In addition the idiotic policies at the broker, made it impossible to use myself as the driver on my wife's rental as they required the renter to have an Intl. driving license... even if the main driver on the rental was a perfectly qualified driver... Absurd! I have an Italian driving license as I am dual citizen (IT-US) hence would fully qualify to pick up and drive the rental! But no! We had to cancel the rental so I could rent the car under my name. Being out of options we tried... Guess what... No cars were available because my wife still "held" the un-rentable car and no other ones where available that day! More absurdity. So the we were basically forced to cancel or there would be no cars for me to rent... but that's not all! We could not know if there was and what would be the difference in price until we could actually make a reservation for that very same car... and obviously we could not do it via the agent at the GoldCar teller or ourselves... the rentalcars.com agentwe had to call in the UK would do it... the additional nonsense of having to call international made costed us an additional 10 Euro. Truly Revolting!) So once canceled we would have to get a new rental policy and... surprise-surprise... instead of passing the existing rental my wife got for 150 Euros few weeks earlier, it would have to be a brand new one at the cost of 800 Euros for the same car that was ALREADY waiting for us to pick it up! Sheer insanity! So in the end... massive loss of time and money even more massive inconvenience! We lost our rental, we lost 50 Euro to pay a cancellation fee that was not caused by us but by rentalcars.com (we didn't want to cancel to begin with!) not to mention the problems that the loss of the reserved car meant. From having to waste money on bus transportation as we wasted a trip from AG to CT and back (since the 2 visiting relatives could have come to AG themselves), to wasting the whole day between bus rides and later car rides as we had to drive back to AG so we could pick up a car that luckily a family member was able to lend us. That also meant to canceling a previously scheduled visit to Syracuse, (due to wasting the entire day riding buses and driving back to Noto) as well as dealing with the issues created by these incompetents and scammers of a broker! Incidentally, sorry businesses in Syracuse, we couldn't come and spend money there thanks to the subject of this review. So we were left without the much needed transportation means, had to cut and re-schedule our tour of Sicilian cities we were going to visit, we had to waste time and get frustrated for the aggravating experience. I really can't recall an experience that was more horrendous and unpleasant than this one with rentalcars.com. Never, never, never again! Stay as far as you can from these disaster-waiting-to-happen of a company! Regrettably we can't rate it in the negative numbers as they truly deserve. Nobody has ever been a more deserving recipient of a minus 5 stars rating than them! Shame on rentalcars.com their disgraceful site, policies and services.

We have booked a car for 17th of August with rentalcars.com, however the company has not booked a car with the local provider. There was no car available and after 3 hours of waiting and non-stop calls ( on hold) with rentalcars - the local company found something else for us. We had to pay the upgrade price ourselves, which rentalcars promised to fully reimburse. However after a month - I am still waiting to be refunded. Not only they have ruined half of the day of my holiday, and incurred extra costs for me, but they are trying to avoid reimbursement still. I would not recommend anyone to go through this hell that this company made and is still making me and my sister go!!!

When i got to rental desk, they were closed, and when i called helpdesk, they didnt want to help, and said i would have to pay a cancellation fee for not collecting car!!! I was left stranded at Toulouse airport at 11pm on a sunday night, and yet still 12 days later they havent apologised, or offered to reimburse my expenses in having to arrange another vehicle. Total **** outfit. Having to take them to small claims court

NEVER EVER BOOK A RENTAL CAR THROUGH THESE LYING PEOPLE. I booked my rental car in Jan. for Sep. to Dublin, IE. Due to COVID-19, I had to change my booking from Sep. to Mar. However, I was told to call back closer to the date three times. The second time, I was told that I would be reimbursed for my $65 dollars if I call back Sep. 8th., and wait to see if they had a car to accommodate my same price so I wouldn't have to pay triple my original price. WELL, THEY LIED because I just called them, they didn't have a car to accommodate me, and they said that they couldn't reimburse me for my $65. WAIT A MINUTE, it's not my fault that there's a pandemic and thank you, rental.com for lying and misleading a customer. You'll be a fool to rent from this rip off company. I looked at other websites and their prices are no where near as high as this company. Beware of this company's lies and manipulation and go with a different company FAST!

In summary Do not use this company services it nearly ruined a 10 day vacation. What happened I rented a car on rentalcars.com for a trip in Italy. I paid everything with my UK debit card. The quality/price was very convenient because I booked 3 weeks in advance. On the day of the pick up when I arrived to the rental agency: noleggiare.it , I was unable to get the car because i need a CREDIT card (not debit card) , company policy. I know it was written in the summary email, but since I rented car many times and I never had such a problem of debit / credit card, I didn't pay attention to it until the last moment. Basically i was left without a car for the 10 days road trip. After 1 hour of conversation with Rentalcars.com customer service i managed to get refunded for the previous car and have a new one the only problem was that i spent almost £900 for a lower level car instead of £500 as I initially booked. For users: I suggest to deal directly with the cars companies if you find a good deal on rentalcars.com. And for rentalcars.com you need to make sure that a user paying with a debit card can't book a car from a company that accept only credit cards.

Rented a minivan and was billed immediately on 6/13/20 for $246.14. Picked up the minivan from Routes Car Rental in Atlanta (NEVER AGAIN - FOR EITHER) Jul 8, 2020 and waited over an hour to get my van. They were using it to shuttle ppl back and forth to the airport because their shuttle was in the shop. After going back and forth wondering what's taking so long. Randall explained and apologized. He stated he will make an adjustment for the inconvenience and appreciated my patience. The new contract is for $180.54. There's a difference owed to me now of $65.60. FYI, they only put about a qtr of gas and did not clean the inside or outside of the vehicle either. I returned the vehicle Jul 13, 2020 and Randall confirmed I would receive my credit in a few days. I have had several correspondence and had to make several phone calls to Routes for my credit.. Their customer service is non-existent and you have to dig to find a telephone number for them. They want you to send an email. Finally, an email on 7/22/2020 stating my credit was authorized but now I have to contact Rentalcars.com for the refund. After a few emails and filing a complaint on their site because there is no telephone number listed, They sent me an email today, Aug 5, 2020, with some bs excuse of how they are prorating my credit and only issued a credit of $36.06. Now I have provided the new contract to them that was given to me and they are refusing to honor it. I will never rent from either of them again!! They first tried to say I returned it early and had unused days, I even explained why the credit was issued. I filed a complaint with the BBB, consumer affairs and I'm posting a review anywhere I can until I get the rest of my money.

They gave me incorrect information on top of that was unable to get the rental because of their mistake. So I rented at Enterprise separately and now this company won't give back my money. Extremely corrupt I am currently pushing fraud upon them through my bank

Be careful you will not get your deposit back as promised. There are many other companies that you can rent a car from without any deposit.

Am now waited for 1 year for my refund (over 500 GBP) and an explanation why they refused my card as guarantee. How is this firm still operating? Biggest rip-off ever. The reviews that give this firm 5 stars are all employees of Rentalcars. Rentalcars.com is a big con. Don't fall for it. Go somewhere else and protect your money

Just had one of the worst experiences with rentalcars customer service. First tried to call the available numbers in my country and it wasn't going through, so had to call the international number. After 3minutes trying to get through to someone the person essentially offered no solution to my problem and told me to pay 150£ to cancel (even though the rental car was not charging for it). Worst experience ever. Never again.

Absolutely Money Grabbing through Covid-19. Unfortunately due to the cancellation of two events I was attending in both Germany and Czech I no longer required the hire vehicle. The company wanted to charge me £37.00 cancellation fees because I could still travel to Germany on the date of hire. they took no account of the fact the events I would be attending were cancelled. NEVER again will I or my contracted employees use this service. My business will go else where. You ill not get much joy either from contacting them direct as agents clearly just read from a prompt sheet and have no authority to 'Make things right'.

Beware!!! BEWARE!! BEWARE!! I booked a car reservation for a week. When i arrived to the rental place I was two hours late, because the city was on lockdown because of the BLM Protestors, City Curfew, and looting. There was no transportation from the airport to the Rental. I had no way of getting to the rental. We had no clue to what was going because we just arrived in town. We took a 78 dollar uber to the Rental once we realized we were stranded. When we arrived to the rental I was told my reservation was cancelled. I told them there should be a car reserved because I paid for it. From the beginning she was rude constantly asking me why I was late. I told her there were no buses running. She continued asking. I said because of the protesting. She still asked but why were you late. Anyway, she said everything was cancelled and I had no car waiting. When I said i paid for it, she told me YOU DID NOT pay for it. That is just to reserve the car. I told her again that I did pay already. I asked for the MGR. She came and said right off the bat, your reservation is cancelled. I said ok can i make a new reservation, she said no. I told her everything is shut down because the BLM protesting. How can i rent a car. She said idk you cannot make a reservation walking in. I left and paid another UBER to a rental spot. Rented and was on my way. I recently looked at my bank statement and realized I WAS CHARGED!!!! I called Rentalcars.com and they said there is nothing they can do !!!! They said why did i call later. I told them I WAS TOLD I wasnt being charged ! So I thought I wasnt being charged! They said they cannot help. My rental was June1-7th and I called the 10th when I seen my statement. They said I called 10 days later and they cannot help. I cannot believe how they do business. I am still trying to contact ppl to get my money back. How can the supervisor tell me I was not charged and I WAS. Shes suppose to know what was going on. I've rented plenty and never ever had this issue

Lots of hidden costs when you go to collect the rental and no refund. We paid for a month's rental and after they gave us the hidden cost at collection we decided not to take it. So now we paid but have no rental. Also they confirmed collection date, but they were closed that day, so started paying for something we could never get. Also bad customer service. Will not recommend rentalcars

Loads of hidden costs, you think you're paying for everything upfront but there are MANY extras. Had to return the car a few days early due to travel plans changing. We were told that we could get the money back for the days we didn't use the car. Went through a long an tedious process to get it looked into to be told they don't refund for days if the car has been returned early (Even though they have a section to request this on their website?!). Beyond disappointed in this company, first time using any car hire company and this was the worst experience.

Hi, our trip was canceled a day before we had to leave for South Africa due to a travel ban implemented by the government. I've phoned Rentalcars UK early Saturday morning hours. They fully refunded me. Agent was very helpful and kind to us. Much appreciated, thank you.
