“The ordering was good but the delivery and updates on delivery were absolutely atrocious. I was emailing, calling, calling Elbec, calling the carriers who still delivered on a day they said they couldn't. The greenhouse looks substantial enough, it's too wet to erect it just now but I am pleased with the quality. Delivery and keeping the customer informed needs attention.”
“I finally got there and I’m fairly pleased with the result.
Delivery had been delayed, taking me into colder and shorter days by the time it arrived. The driver seemed to expect a welcome party of at least two people to off-load the nine boxes that my store came in. Heavy rain had dampened his enthusiasm to assist. The cardboard boxes soon became soggy and weak. Some were very heavy.
I was expected to confirm that everything was present and correct but there was no manifest to check against and nothing to tell me whether any of the boxes contained any parts list (maybe because none of them did).
When I finally located the (soggy) building instructions I found them rather difficult to follow. It was nicely printed A4 manual of 68 pages filled with pictures but no written instruction. I assume this is a universal way to address all languages but some details seemed incomplete. Because it was a “one size fits all” document, it tried to cover all variants of my building. Some details took time to understand because the orientation was different from the image they referred to. You need to go carefully to avoid mistakes!
An accessories pack contained a spanner for the tiny bolts, which was a nice touch, but not for the more substantial ones. I found a large nail which came without explanation and also what seemed to be a bottle opener. Sadly, the bottles to which it may have been applied were nowhere to be seen. The instructions implore you to have one or two helpers (some walls can be unwieldy) but they only supplied one pair of gloves (sheet metal can have sharp edges) - maybe one glove each (if left and right handed)?
There was a page of “full-size” images of the fixings, to assist identification but the real items were larger. If you are used to flat pack assembly, guided by pictures without a narrative, you may find the going easier than I did. Some assembly was rather fiddly due to the small size of the nuts and bolts and the tiny spaces to place them within. If you have fat fingers or a clumsy disposition, you may find construction a bit of a challenge. Expect to drop and lose some of the fixings but don’t worry as there seem to be plenty to spare. I found a strong magnet to be a useful accessory.”
