“After years of crumbling wooden sheds, we made the decision to invest in a plastic model. Hopefully this will last us quite a few years! Hubby did his usual thorough research and we finally decided to purchase Palram 6x8’ Skylight classic in grey via Elbec. We would have given 5 stars if I hadn’t had to chase up our order…… twice. Although the problem was dealt with, it was poor customer service. My review is based on the actual shed. In preparation we watched a couple of construction videos to see how hard/easy it would be to put together. All looked fairly simple, especially if there are two people and it’s not a windy day. Our advice/tips would be:- Allow a full day for this job, even though the video tells you it will only take ½ day. This didn’t include emptying old shed or laying the base. Ensure you have factored in a solid base into your costings and planning. We used basic concreate paving slabs on sand. Make sure the base is completely level before you start construction. Lay out all the components of the shed before you start. Everything is numbered and there are fairly easy to understand and follow printed instructions in the box. The plastic panels slide easily into the brackets etc as long as you follow the numbering system. The instructions don’t actually tell you which is the outside of each panel, we had to figure this out. The shiny side is the inside of the shed. An electric screwdriver is a MUST. The video states you can achieve this job using a manual driver, but it will be hard work and take you twice as long. Don’t screw the base to the concreate base until you are finally happy with the location etc. We moved the shed around on its base until we were happy. Have a spirit level handy, even though the instruction leaflet doesn’t state this, you will need it! Have a drink, sit back and admire your lovely new shed. (hopefully to be kept tidy by Hubby)”

The shed took a bit of diy to complete but for the price I was pleased. The window is a bit annoying as it is plastic and makes a noise when the wind blows but nothing I can't live with! Now it is up and complete I think it looks a very nice, smart little shed! I would definitely use elbec again.”

“The shed is good quality and looks very nice too. Putting it all together was not difficult but took a long time. You need 2 people to do it and a couple of days. Was it worth it ? Yes.”

“It would be helpful if he screw holes were pre drilled. Because the diagrams were not clear I drilled holes in the wrong place. Also It was only after I had erected the shed that I spotted the comment about sealing the joints - This should have been at the start of the instructions!!”
“The shed was delivered on time and as expected. However the handover was a bit brief and it wasn't exactly clear where the instructions were, it turned out these were hidden between a couple of panels which I eventually found but not before calling and being emailed them in PDF format. The shed seems reasonable, time will tell how long it lasts, however a couple of the timbers were broken due to having huge knots in, so I had to clamp and glue these prior to install, also one of the door stops was not cut to the right size but fortunately it was oversize so I was able to cut it down to fit. Maybe quality control is lacking here. You have to drill a lot of holes yourself, presumably this is to keep costs down, and you also have to weather treat the timber to qualify for the ten year warranty. It took two of us about three days to put up. The installation manual was poorly photocopied, so much so that important instructions were missing. I had to print out my own instructions because of this (about fifteen sheets of A4 double sided). Even then the instructions didn't seem to fit the page on the printout very well so I had to refer to both sets which was annoying. Please provide a properly printed instruction manual! Finally the roof tacks are too short, mostly they work alright but when you fold the asphalt at the corners and nail it, the tacks just pop out. Either they should provide about a ¼ longer tacks or at least a few longer ones for folds etc.”
