“I used Yell.com to list my business and was contacted by them. Here's my honest review. PROS: free business listings and a free scanning tool to assess the reputation level of your business across the internet. Friendly staff on the phone. CONS: I was quoted just under £40 a month to optimise my reputation on the above scanner with a yell.com premium listing. First of all the scan results I was quoted (98% error rate) were different to the scan results I got myself (72% error rate). Secondly, £40 a month is £480 a year and for a sole trader starting out that's pretty brutal. I also know that much of the work suggested to me that would be included in the service are things I can do myself (I've already got my error rate down to 52% since I spoke to Yell.com by taking these steps myself). These latest scan results are also inaccurate because I know for a fact that my business is listed on certain directories that are showing up as unlisted on the Yell.com scanner. So I expect my error rate should be around 40% now, and all done by myself without having to pay £480 a year. I think Yell.com is one of many similar services out there in a competitive market. And I also think that the kind of money they're asking is unrealistically high for sole traders like me. Fees that high don't encourage small business in my view and I've since been quoted £199 by a competitor for what seems to be an even better service. Yell.com also tried to have this review removed on another review site, claiming that it was not genuine. I'm pretty disgusted by that tactic and as a result I definitely won't be buying advertising with them in the future. Anyone can check their extrotionate fees to verify that my review is honest.”

“Paid 1K and website written in India - did not work and reputation which cost £40 per month was a waste of money you can do it for free. Talked to some product owner at Yell to complain - chap called Phil was honest and said yell analytics are rubbish!!!! Cheers Yell, bunch of amateurs...”

“Shoddy website written in India. All the calls you make go to India to get stuff sorted. Total unsatisfactory. And guess what YOU CAN NOT CANCEL - they stick you on a 12 month contract then AUTOMATICALLY on a rolling contract. If you don't pay they send in Moorcroft debt agency who are a nightmare.”

“Advert did not perform and website when I checked my Google Analytics i added had hardly any visitors - they had visitors in Yells analytics but turns out these were spam ones. So don't trust what yells analytics tell you - add your own independent ones to see if it is working. yell did not ask me for a review - seems the warning on this website is right and they cherry pick who they ask. Trying to lure in new customers by bumping up their review score. So glad this site picked it up”

“What went wrong! Website was written by a 5 year old...... Come on Yell, answer the question asked on here. You charged me a fortune for a Premium Plus website then wrote it on the cheap in India. Customers aren't stupid...”

“I hope people will read the reviews before deciding to do business with them...All of these 'nice' reviews either is written by them, or the customer is new and doesn't know how bad they are!!! They also asked us to ask our friends to give good reviews, this company is a fake!!!!”

“Website they build you do not own!!! It's underhand to get you to stay a customer. Impossible to speak to someone as all their staff including website writers and ppc are off-shore - SEO - don't make me laugh....”

“only bothered about getting me to sign a 12 month contract - soon as that was done no one ever called me back Wanted to cancel but they said if I did it will go to Moorcroft debt collection straight away. Don't leave reviews until you've been a customer for a while!!!”

“The worst experience over!!!!!!! As everyone who dealt with them, I didn't have any idea what does it mean to advertise your business with them. At the beginning I was excited, but after I've done my research online and read others comments, I decided to cancel this 'contract' with them, as it was no use for me. All my clients found my business on Gumtree. So, I called them after 10 days and they told me I cannot close my advertising with them as it is a contract, which no-one mention to me about this. I explained the situation, I didn't even have 14 days so It was supposed to be able to cancel the contract. They didn't even want to hear. After 3 months, Moorcroft Recovery debt contacted me and i paid my outstanding balance just to get rid off them! Paid £400 for nothing! Please, whoever is reading my review, don't get involved with yell!! Found other way of advertising, because there are soo many ways. It's such a shame and waste of money!!!”

“Advertised my construction company. They called up twice to upgrade which I did so performance will improve and they’re the biggest directory in U.K. blah blah blah. 6 months later, paying £140 a month I got 56 clicks and 0 phone calls. I called up to cancel, but they don’t take any responsibility and they tell me they put me on top of the list and that’s what I payed for., to be at the top of a list!!!??? Tied up on 1 year contract. The money is not an issue but the moral....!!! I hope they go bankrupt soon.”

“Be warned check how long the contract you sign electronically is!!!!!!! Mine said monthly rolling but turned out it was 12 months with no cancellations. Plus at the end you DO NOT OWN YOUR WEBSITE.”
