Cancelled policy within 12 hours and during cooling off period, having been offered better deal to stay with existing insurer. Website told me cancellation would be at no charge, and I was charged £50 for 12 hours of no cover. Appalling profiteering!

Awful customer service, no reply to emails and that was just general enquiries. God knows what problems this would cause if I needed to get hold of them in a hurry, in the event of a claim.

Been with them a few years with no problems till i changed my car would not provide me with a quote now trying to charge me £50 cancellation fee because i no longer have the car they insured

After queuing on the phone for 40 mins to get through, advisor was miserable, seemed like it was an effort to carry out his job. Didn't feel like a valued customer. Got cut off halfway through my quote so had to call again and spend ages in a queue. Only good thing is the price, but wish I'd gone elsewhere and paid more for a nicer customer service.

Given one price on-line but unable to access that via the website. Price increased by £20 when I phoned, apparently the price changes on a minute by minute basis!

Waiting time on phone was over 30 min. Once answered put on hold for further 30 min. On the web site it says £50 discount for second policy holder. This is a lie since it is only £20. Poor service. reasonable price.

Kept waiting on line for 23mins before someone answered, no apology of sorry to keep you waiting. Felt like you were on a conveyor belt, no please no thank you and when I suggested at the end it may be nice to actually say to a 'paying customer' sorry to keep you waiting, I was given the response, 'ok', not impressed to be honest, cheap insurance but shouldn't have to be given cheap service

Took my monthly payment out a day before it was due resulting in me getting a fine from the company. I will not be paying it

Claims service is excellent but general customer service is appalling - I tried to insure a second car online, where it was advertised that I was entitled to £50 off the second car policy as an existing customer- the quote I was given was more expensive than the quote I got through Compare the Market - when I rang customer service, they were very unhelpful and told me that the £50 offer was subject to terms and conditions - yet when I asked them to explain why I was not entitled to the offer, they wouldn't give me that information. Overall very poor and the only reason I ensured with them is that the claims service is very good. I will go elsewhere next year.

I am a repeat Customer. I had a renewal price which as they said in letter was better than new customers. But when I went on comparison sites I had quotes from them dramatically different. When I phoned them after explaining the price difference they could not give me price on site. After lots of me trying to explain to polite but not too bright staff I had to cancel automatic renewal with them to then get the cheaper "new customer" price via comparison site. Got passed through 3 different members of staff just to do it cheaper online through someone else. Incompetent

After paying over £800 for my insurance I would consider my self a valued customer. Calling 3 times to have the names on the policy corrected at over 45 mins each time was an absolute JOKE. I asked for confirmation of whether the policy covered me third party however this took the advisor 22 minutes and kept me on hold. Useless staff and useless company, no wonder you are cheap you don't spend money on training

I have not been in the slightest bit impressed up to now with 1st Central. I took out fully comprehensive car insurance with them because their quote was the most competitive. I realised before the start of the policy that I had taken the cover out on the wrong car (one was due 15 Mar and one due 15 May - my mistake, but an honest one nonetheless). I attempted to contact them to cancel and was told they could cancel it but I would lose £50 set up costs - how are there set up costs on an automated online system? I asked if I could delay the policy until the proper start date of 15 May - No. I was then told I would not be able to have the NCD as it was being used already by the policy it was supposed to replace, so would have an increase in premiums!!! I have been waiting for a call back for 3-4 days to discuss the possibility of having the insurance taken out against the care that is actually due on 15 Mar - nothing heard at all! I have called on two occasions as I haven't previously been asked for driving licences for all insured drivers. I sent these electronically and then called twice to confirm they had arrived to be passed onto the HQ when it was already closed after holding for 5-8 minutes. . Customer Service? Not the best I have experience I must say.

I was with 1st central 2 years ago and moved last year with a cheaper quote then this year before my renewal I got a quote I got off a comparison site quoted me £330 then I got a email from 1st central telling me that if got a quote direct from them I would receive a 35 pound discount off my quote and a free M O T so I got a quote direct from 1st central site. The quote came out at £440...how does that work?

Absolutely appalling customer service,,I would rather pay more than use this terrible company.Relentless chased us for a debt that we did not have.Would'nt answer letters,they just kept sending standard letters threatening to send debt collectors.AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

My car that was insure with you blew up. A friend offered me his car so I could drive to find another one. You told me that I could not transfer my insurance or become insured for that vehicle. I purchased a new car and rang you to change the details. You wanted to charge me £50 to do this. When I said I may as well get another insurance provider you still said I owed you £50.

Someone tried to steal my car and they smashed the window. Ontop of charges to fix the window, I had to pay £300 extra simply because I have had my driving licence for less than a year. I was a victim of vandalism. It was nothing to do with how long I had been a licenced driver. The car was parked and someone broke into it! I explained this to the call centre minions and every word fell on deaf ears. I was and still am furious. And I tell everyone/anyone at any/every opportunity about how I was treated. Disgusting.
