RAC are the worst! I had an appointment booked for 8.30am no one came, there was no call to say the engineer was late nothing. So I called and was fogged of that someone would call me back. Only when I got annoyed I was told someone would come out to me at 6pm. The service is hideous they do not have enough staff nor the right about of staff to meet the customer requirements I have paid £200 for nothing. They liturally RIP you of rob your money and dont come out to help u! The service is so bad. Staff are not competent and unless u are standing on a motorway stranded in the freezing cold the company simply dont give a s*** dont know why they offer home start!

Terrible service. It took 24 hours for someone qualified from RAC to arrive. The first 'partner' they sent was hours late and was never going to be able to fix the problem. The call centre was dreadful and initially refused to put me onto a manager. I finally got hold of one and he promised to refund me a taxi to and from work. I sent the receipts with reminders in but still no refund 3 months on. I won't be renewing my subscription and the DD has been cancelled already.

We have European cover and needed help in Spain with our campervan. RAC have been AWFUL. They have lied to us multiple times, left us stranded with no vehicle or hotel until we phoned up 5 times. They told us there would be a taxi in 10 mins and after an hour of waiting we phoned and they told us to walk as no taxi was booked. Told us a hotel was booked for that night yet the hotel did not have a reservation for us, turns out they had not booked a hotel for us. At this present moment we have had our van in a garage for 3 full days. We do not know where this garage is, where our van is parked (windows were smashed in just before the breakdown so anyone has access to our campervan right now) or when we will find out the diagnosis of the problem let alone the cost and when it will actually be fixed. We have not received a single phone call from RAC, we need to be the ones to micromanage them and tell them that we need a taxi here a hotel there. All the while we are being lied to and forgotten about. Absolutely not worth the money or hassle and I will never be recommending RAC or taking out a policy with them again.

Broke down in france with european breakdown service. Arrived 4.5 hours later, unnecessarily towed my car away. 3 days later, after towing my car to another garage without my consent, I was given a price of over £600 to replace a maf sensor which I knew could not be at fault given the symptoms! Finally re-united with car after a serious amount of stress and demanding to be reunited with my car. Then I find out one of the garages has reversed my car into a post. Rac no longer want to know because I refused to pay the £600. Phoned mercedes benz who arranged an appointment with a local mb garage to have a look within 24hrs. The cleared the fault codes within 20 mins and assured me the car was fine to drive home safely. This happened in august. I have phoned rac numerous times and made a formal complaint twice but here we are at the end of october still without a reply . Just waiting a couple more weeks to contact the ombudsman. I don't like bad mouthing companies but I am absolutely gobsmacked at the lack of care within this service. Rac are now very quick to point out that the euro cover is handled by a third party and is out of their control. However, when I booked the cover they were very keen to brand their own cover as the best available! I could go on with the issues including being lied to by the call centre but I am too angry to go on. In short, this is a scam service. I do understand R.A.C. have little to do with their european side but the way they advertise and even the wording in the terms and conditions is simply disgusting. Even reading the terms and conditions is useless as they are very open to interpretation and even details advertised on the website, such as phone numbers are wrong. I am truly gobsmacked that a company such as the R.A C. (A national institution, if you will) can run a service so badly. Spoiler alert. R.A.C. european breakdown use a proxy company to handle their european services. The french side are completely useless and as bunch of crooks. That will sound harsh but I can provide the evidence to prove this. I hope you read this and take note. There will be plenty of times when the service works out ok but I promise you this. If things go wrong you will probably do better to skip breakdown cover abroad and sort things out yourself. If you dont believe me phone them up and actually check what is covered. For instance, if you breakdown on a toll road or if you are carrying bikes on a cycle carrier or towing a traler tent You may come to the conclusion that the cover does not, as advertised, bring complete price of mind.

Popped out for some dig folks at 1.20pm. Van threw the auxiliary belt leaving it undriveable. RAC told me I might have to wait up to 4 hours for a 2 mile recovery but would not commit to a firm time. Still sat here ar 6.00pm after being told might be yet another 45 minutes. Thankfully I gave used my time wisely and have quotes for other providers for if I ever get home. Not worth. complaining as this lot will not accept criticism.

Disgusting service, did damage to my elderly parents car, appears they can't see the video that was taken by a garage, of the damage they caused, and to think my mum gave the bloke a tip,for him to deny it,thanks to the rac they are left with no car and a hefty bill, how good they must feel.

Absolutely disgusting company! I broke down after my night shift, called them up and they said that my cover has been cancelled and I will have to pay 200.- pounds for them to pick me up. That was night time! I did not have that money so my partner had to come from quite a way to sort me out! Then I just went and joined AA, but few months later noticed that RAC has been taking money off my account all along, even months later! When filed an investigation, they just ignore me and haven’t even bothered to refund me!

My fuel tank leaked at a fuel station. Fire service were called and couldn’t leave the vehicle until the rac arrived to remove it. Was told I would have to wait 4 hours - the fire service had to wait until the vehicle was finally removed 6 hours later. The removal vehicle was a contractor who said he was meeting another contractor for handover at m1 south services. He left the vehicle at the services with the key in the car unlocked and a note in the passenger seat - there was no handover. What would have happened if my car had been stolen?

Car broke down this evening. Rang RAC. Seems they are now staffed by 12 year olds in the call centre. They didn't ask any of the usual questions about whether I was safe, or whether there were children in the car. I told them where I was. They promised to send someone within 70 minutes. Naturally no-one turned up. Temperature had dropped and I was getting cold and uncomfortable. Phoned again after waiting 2 hours and was told 11 p.m. was the new ETA, about 4.5 hours from original call. No-one had kept me informed. If I hadn't have rung, I would never have known. No explanation for the change, other than 'It's Friday night' . Don't think I would have managed another 2 hours wait, I would have frozen. Phoned again and made an official complaint. They said a supervisor would ring back. They didn't. Made my own way home in the end, and left the car. Rang RAC again and told them it was pointless coming to rescue me now. They didn't seem to care. Hopeless levels of service. Will dump them and move to someone else. Avoid.

I spotted an amount for RAC cover on a credit card statement for a card I dont use - I dont have RAC cover. Rang to tell them to be told they had taken my payment for the PAST FIVE YEARS. Yes my fault - my credit card statement was one I didn’t check every month as balance was quite high. They refunded the latest one but wont refund the others even though I had breakdown cover with another company. They reckon I ticked a box to say they could take it every year. Operators rude and insinuating I’m trying to scam them .... I cancelled my sons policy that I had paid for him for the past 3 years and I wouldn’t use them again, so there rudeness has cost them custom. My advice would be to keep clear of them .... or if you do use them and cancel in later years keep an eye on your bank account as they can take your money regardless

Don’t ever use RAC. European cover is terrible. We were without our car for almost a month because of their total incompetence-in the end threatened to report car stolen as nobody seemed to know where it was! They appear to routinely lie to their customers and do not bother to get in touch to explain. I have logged a complaint in detail which includes texts, phone logs etc which will have arrived in Bristol today requesting acknowledgment. Fellow forum users will not be surprised to know that nothing has happened. Watchdog next call I think!

My daughter who is very anxious and broke down on the way to work at 10pm on a stretch of road that had no lights at all. She was alone and told the RAC this, yet they took three and a half hours to come and get her making her very late for work, but more to the point extremely anxious being left in total darkness. As a father, I find this totally unacceptable. Unfortunately, I was out of the country so couldn't come and wait with her.

Just bought the full data check from the RAC. For over £13 they are telling me the car I want to buy tomorrow has had no previous keepers. It has 20,000 miles on the odometer, so that is clearly wrong!
