Totally useless. Waited 5 hours. Female on her own. Quickly took £40 excess from me. Six hours later said they were struggling to find a recovery vehicle in the area. Shocking customer service

I recently had the unfortunate experience of needing to use my RAC breakdown cover, and I must say it was an absolute nightmare. I had opted for this service through my insurance to have peace of mind in case of emergencies. However, when the time came for assistance, I was met with an unhelpful and obstructive attitude from the RAC. My ordeal began when I had a puncture and found that the hole was too large to be fixed with the puncture repair kit. To make matters worse, my car didn't come with a spare tire. I contacted the RAC and was bombarded with a barrage of unnecessary questions aimed at finding reasons not to provide the service without charging extra. It felt as if they were desperately looking for any excuse to avoid fulfilling their obligations. When I explained how the puncture might have occurred, mentioning the possibility of hitting something sharp like a curb or a metal object, the RAC representative informed me that my insurance company did not cover them and advised me to contact them instead. After wasting an hour on the phone with my insurance company, they confirmed that there was no valid reason for the RAC to reject my claim. Frustrated and annoyed, I called the RAC back, only to be greeted by an extremely rude customer service representative. When I recounted the situation to him, he immediately jumped to conclusions and asserted that I had hit something, thereby making it my fault and not a breakdown. I tried to clarify that I had merely speculated about the cause of the puncture based on what I could see, but he was dismissive and belittling, claiming that he dealt with people like me all the time. I questioned him about the nature of a puncture, as it clearly qualified as a breakdown, but he argued that it depended on how I got the puncture. When I asked how else one could get a puncture other than by hitting a sharp object, he evaded the question and simply insisted that if I wanted assistance, I would have to pay an additional £120. This entire experience with RAC breakdown cover was utterly horrendous and did not provide me with any sense of peace of mind. The unhelpful and rude customer service, coupled with the absurd conditions they imposed, left me deeply dissatisfied. I strongly advise others to avoid entering into a contract with RAC in the future. There are far better alternatives available from more reputable and customer-oriented companies.

I'm disabled - diabetes & heart failure. I was a passenger in my wife's car, RAC cover via General Accident The brakes failed on M25 Sat 12:30 hrs. I was told priority, 40 mins response. 90mins later had heard nothing. You couldn't find a record of the vehicle. Morons in their call centre, mumbled incomprehensively despite the background noise of the M25 making hearing difficult. They now had no record of my car, even though they had it when I called at 12:30 By this time I was well stressed out. Not good when you have heart failure I was then told it would now be a further 90 mins at least, no longer priority. My meds were overdue, I was stressed, tense at risk. Wife was freaking out about my condition and being on the M25 hard shoulder by Heathrow right next to thundering lorries. Eventually car was recovered 4pm. But recovery guy was given details of the wrong car. Bank holiday Saturday - garage closed, so delivered to my home. Now garage is open RAC have told me they will not be completing the recovery to the dealership. Car is not drivable. So I have the most expensive garden ornament in the world in front of my house. All these years a customer and they leave me in the lurch, immobile. F*** you, RAC RAC = Rent A Clown. Never trusting them again A V O I D

Phoned 9.36 pm outside Edinburgh flat tyre couldn't be fixed, waited 3 hours for someone to come tell me what I all ready knew, couldn't be fixed, said will send for recovery truck and take it to your required destination, now 10 am in the morning still not picked up, and the cars not there anymore, police had it lifted as abandoned vehicle, I'm not joking this is rac terrible service no communication skills, still on phone as I'm writing this I'm just gonna say what is going with this lot

I called RAC at 7:30pm to assist me with my Electric Vehicle as the battery had depleted. I was told the estimated arrival Time for assistance would be 9:09pm - 9:39pm. I called back at 10:45pm As the RAC driver hadn’t arrived. I was then told the estimated arrival time would be 2am - 2:30am.. 5 hours after the original estimated time, which meant I sat in my van for 7 hours At no time was I contacted by RAC to inform me about the change of arrival time. I had to call them to get the information I would also like to add I was in London Islington (Which is not far from Central London) so it makes no sense that I had to wait 7+ Hours I doubt they will issue some sought of compensation. Instead they will keep relaying futile apologies It’s safe to say I will not be using RAC again, but instead see what AA has to offer

Genuine reviews and their service is very bad and just plain terrible. RAC is just a terrible company and has gotten worse after the pandemic. You hear all the time by just doing a google search and news articles show up of their incompetence.

The worst service ever!!!! Broke down at approximately 5.15pm on a Monday evening (roughly about a 2hr drive from home) and got home the next morning at 6am. Total waste of money for what I would call a decent policy, every time my brother in law rang the rac he spoke to a different person and had to keep explaining his situation over and over again. Due to the terrible service and how long it took us to get back home I missed work the following day so I lost out on a days wage and my sanity. Worst service ever.

Contacted RAC AT approx 5.30. Had a message to say they would be with me within the hour. The messages kept coming and the time got later and later. Then I had a call at 10pm to say they still hadn’t found a patrol that is free. Huh? So the messages must have been lies. Or computer generated jargon. Never had this low level of poor service. They say they are not sure how many more hours it will be. This needs addressing and urgently. .

Left my disabled husband at the side of a main road for 10 hours, they are aware he’s disabled, no toilet, shops or anything nearby, he had low phone battery, they told him 1 1/2 hours wait. Which seemed ok, they kept extending the wait time, and eventually they sent a partner tow truck to come and pick him up after 10 hours!!! No diagnostic care offered, and as an apology he was offered £30 compensation. Absolutely horrendous, they weren’t even sorry. Do not use!!!

Even a single star is not worth RAC's appalling service and their teams' callous and dismissive attitude. My Audi A8 broke down in Cornwall on 7th May 2023. I have the Barclays Premier Plus RAC breakdown cover. RAC had to recover the car from Cornwall to my town in Teesside as the engineer could not fix it. On the day of the breakdown, even while the car partially blocked a busy road, RAC took 4 hours to attend. After another two hours, the RAC recovery team took my car on the 7th of May, 2023 evening ensuring the car would be delivered to the Audi garage in Teesside in three days. Today is 18th May 2023. RAC failed to deliver on the originally promised date and failed to deliver on the second promised date by their logistics. The unfathomable thing is that none of their team can reach their logistics department by phone. They will send an email and wait for the response. The car is expected to be delivered tomorrow, 12 days after it was taken from me. The logistics and customer service wouldn’t authorise a hire car after just one day despite their additional delay of more than a week. I wasted much time in the last seven days contacting RAC. On average, I wasted 20 minutes on each call. The updated texts and links they sent got stuck on the same message for days in my case. My advice for other customers of RAC in the event of a breakdown and a need for the recovery of your car, is if they ask if you would agree to the staged recovery that may take 3 to 5 days, don’t agree. Demand for the recovery straight to the destination. This company cannot deliver what they promise and what you paid for. They are callous and dismissive to take any responsibility to offset the inconvenience caused due to their inability or incompetence. The customer service assured me a call back with a hire car arrangement yesterday and today, and the calls never came. Looking at the feedback from ‘Which’ and other sites, AA seems far better than this company. Barclays should know the substandard service of this company.

Absolutely useless. I am apparently a medical priority escalated!! 3 + hours and still waiting. Their texts don’t work. Their tracking of your help doesn’t work and they don’t phone you back despite them saying they will! I’ll be sitting here for at least another 3 hours! Phoned 12 times and another 12 to go!!! Many thanks to local pubs and staff at the station at Lockerbie who have helped relieve my distress and discomfort. If I could give you 0 stars I would RAC! Terrible service!!!

The RAC are actually useless -do not insure with them! They do not communicate to their own underwriters and they have been charging me for car insurance for a car that was written off 8 months ago. Ironically they are the ones who scrapped the car but are asking for proof! Avoid at all costs! The ceo doesn’t even respond.
