Worst company in the world. Incompetent service, never use or engage the RAC for anything. I am currently cancelling my company fleet and personal cover. They will lie and let you down every time.

Our service engineers have the RAC for their breakdowns. Our engineers van today broke down. I contacted the team online as told to do around 8am. We had a time of 10:30 to recover, this was ok. I refresh the page to see that it had been cancelled and the driver hadn't called my engineer to say he couldn't find him. So i had to then try again, this time i spoke to someone on the phone. Had another time slot for 13:00, about hour later next time slot 14:30 to 16:30. My engineer has been waiting all day for this. Its beyond ridiculous. Lost a full days work due to this problem of waiting around. Not happy with the service at all. I know the weather and traffic is bad but this just took the p***!!!! Resorted to a local garage to tow the vehicle and come out and do diags. Will be looking in to a new breakdown cover service.

Honestly wish I could give 0stars. Used to be a great company with great customer service who would go beyond to give you discount. No longer such a company. Was on a continual loop of pressing 1 going round in circles on the various numbers I had for them (number on my benefits key fob clearly outdated and they’d not sent me a new one). Eventually had to log it online. Called for an estimate of when they would arrive as I needed to collect my son. Was told it wasn’t on system and if I had no text to confirm then it wasn’t logged. Rude lady wouldn’t log it for me. I was getting exasperated from the stress of trying to get in touch with them and was told to “not be short” when I said excuse me coz I’d not quite understood what she said she again said “don’t be short with me” I admit I lost my rag at that point. Hopefully I made her day a misery because she Definately didn’t help mine. Cancelled my auto renewal direct debit (which had gone up to £80 when it used to be £40!!) and I assume because of my “behaviour” they’ll cancel my membership too. Can’t even log into their website now, apparently my account is locked. Been with RAC 10 years. Going to just add breakdown cover to my insurance from now on.

RAC worst breakdown service ever, all they want you to do is press the “I don’t need help anymore” on their website. There’s a long warning about if you dare to be angry about their terrible service they won’t attend and they’ll cancel your policy. They might as well for all the good it is. We waited from 15.00 until 12.00 the following day and they still didn’t show up. Whatever you do don’t breakdown at home and pay for homestart, useless organisation

If I could give 0 stars I would. Called up on the 13th dec am as car wouldn’t start and needed it for work 4 hours later. I’m a doctor and do house calls. Was told wouldn’t be a problem and that they would get to me in time but had to pay £200 upfront as I’m a new customer. Once I had paid looked at the ETA and was 3pm 6 hours minimum! Called them back was told no problem would would make me a priority, within 30 minutes had changed to 5pm! Then called them and asked could I just cancel it as I need to make alternative arrangements to start my car as I need it and cancel off the payment as it hadn’t gone out my bank yet was told yes, put me through to the Finance department who said would cancel the payment. The Day after £200 went out my account. After emailing (no response) speaking to the call handlers on 5 different occasions and the finance department a further time with each saying no problem Money will be refunded still hasn’t happened! On last phonecall guy says he’s made a complaint for me and they will call Me back within 24 hours and he will Send email straight over (no callback no emails at all have been sent despite being promised this numerous times!). They are now saying they can’t put me through to the finance department and can’t put me through to their boss or anyone to make a complaint! And that only way to get a refund with RAC now is to complain to an email address that never reply. They essentially steal your money avoid avoid avoid. I will be takingTo financial ombudsman in feb and posting everywhere I can find. Absolutely disgraceful worst customer service I have ever experienced. But the sheer lies and the stealing of customers money really is on a different level! I still haven’t even had 1 email From them despite assurances each time I called that they would send me an email with the details on!

Had a query with RAC approved garage - filled in complain to RAC with arguments, prove etc... RAC "investigation" basically was sending email to the garage and taking every single word of theirs for granted despite facts provided by myself. Conclusion : RAC is not there to make sure customers have fair deal. No. RAC is basically working as a shield to all kind of shady garages as long as they are paying their fee... RAC approved garage - major red flag from now.

Broke down New Year’s Day on M40 5pm took ages to get through to someone, stood on dark hard shoulder in rain till 10:30pm, RAC couldn’t repair my car, then towed me 7 miles to A46 petrol station(which was closed) waited till 3am till recovery vehicle arrived and Uber to take us 80miles home. Arrived back at our house 5:15am!! No phone calls to check on us…worst service ever. Follow up calls to call centre customer service over next few days just as bad..utterly useless… 0/10

car battery failed, called RAC at 6.20pm, still waiting at 12 midnight, they said they didnt have anyone in the area. If thats the case, why provide a breakdown service? Got £20 cab home as pets to feed. Car now in retail park broken down. just appalling, worse service ever. Am freezing cold and feel ill with cold as 2 degrees outside.

After a painfully long hold I was told to pay £60 to update vehicle details. Been a customer for years so not happy & was told they’d give 3 months free as a goodwill gesture. I agreed only to be told this wasn’t possible and the best they could do would be £30 rip off surcharge instead of £60. After a lifetime on hold the job was finally booked. The tracking was unreliable & the wait was around 3 hours. Lying, obnoxious staff & long waits. On the bright side just found out Greenflag is only £70 a year.

We broke down and in a van the sent a patrol car because we were on the motorway, he couldn't fix it so we needed a recovery truck. We end up calling 15 times and waited 21 hours no food no water. They said a manager would call they didn't. No explanation only told to raise a complaint but they wouldn't reply to it if we did.

Appalling service. Broke down on a junction and due to being electric car unable to move it as brakes locked on. Told them this and that the car was causing a hazard for other cars having to get past me at the junction. Told recovery would be an hour but every time that time came they extended the eta. Eventually car was recovered 5 hours after reported. Awful service. Avoid at all cost!

You are a breakdown recovery service. At 18.00 on Thursday night, I was in the middle of the country side, caught by the floods and my vehicle was stuck. After calling, I was firstly told you would not help as you were concerned for your vehicle and later told that you would not help because the flooding that I was caught in did not constitute a breakdown. You totally failed to realise that I was left without any support in the cold in a flood at the age of 73. I pay for your service so that I can have confidence that if I happen to be stuck somewhere I will get rescued. As it happened my son was with me and we found a farmer who made a cup of tea for me while he got us to our final destination. After all of this the next day when we spoke with you you said you would send someone to diagnose the issue. Later you called and said you would not be doing this as it didn't count as a breakdown. No one really cares what you technically consider a breakdown. The fact is, I pay for RAC rescue and my car would not start. That in anyone's book is a breakdown. Your customer support was atrocious. Imagine I had not been so able, not had my son with me and was in the same situation. In the end I shall be making a public review of RAC and not just a feedback to your email so that others will know of your total lack of support, total lack of empathy as a business and consideration only for making sure that you can save every penny at anyone's cost. We have now spoken with comparable companies and will be moving to them immediately as not only have other's confirmed it, but they have no issues helping people in such situations. You should be appalled by your lack of service when people are in such need.

Avoid RAC breakdown I reported a breakdown at 16.30, and was given an ETA range ending 17.25. After this time had come and gone, I called RAC and was told the case had to be ‘escalated’ and that I should get a a call within 30 minutes. After 90 minutes, I called back, and was told “there are no patrols in your area” (SW London- hardly remote). The app then updated, suggesting I would be attended to by 21.50. I then received another call, and was again told there were “no patrols in your area”. The person to whom I spoke gave me 2 options- 1. “call back tomorrow” 2. A partner company to attend the breakdown, but this would take up to two hours, on top of the 5 hours I had already been waiting. I said I had been told on the app that a patrol was due to arrive by 21.50. The person said he had no idea why this was, as a patrol had never been available in my area. The matter was eventually resolved by the partner company at 23.15, almost seven hours after I reported it, and only after my continued efforts to get anything done at all. RAC asked me, in request for feedback, why I cancelled the callout. I am genuinely shocked at how RAC operates. I received a total lack of service, pitiful communication, indication of ETAs which was entirely false, and indifferent customer service operatives casually telling me there was nothing they could do. I am saddened to see the deterioration of RAC from a once iconic British motoring brand to this. I would urge anyone considering taking out or renewing breakdown cover to consider not only my concerns but those expressed through the 1* reviews representing 18% of the total.
