In August the RAC sent me a renewal letter which showed an approx 50% increase. It also included a lot of options I didn’t want. I then got a quote from the AA for what I actually wanted which was substantially lower. After speaking to the RAC they agreed a much lower renewal price and said a new letter would be issued. Two weeks later nothing had arrived and the original price was still shown online. I telephoned again and they said they would email a confirmation of the price. One week later nothing had arrived and the original price was still showing online. At this point I decided to switch to the AA and opt out of automatic renewal. Unfortunately you can’t do this online so I had to telephone them again, stating quite clearly I did not want automatic renewal and was not going to renew As by this point as I didn’t trust the RAC I went online with my bank and cancelled the direct debit. It was a good job I did this as, on renewal day, I had a text message from them saying: “Something's gone wrong with your breakdown cover payment. To stay covered, call 03301590559” Obviously they had ignored my instructions to cancel and had tried to take the money. The message is simple - if you decide not to renew, cancel your direct debit. They are a bunch of crooks

I have been with them for 20 years. The one time I needed them they hang up the phone.

personally my experience with Rac is very bad...because my car had a problem. I called them at 8 in the morning and they had me on hold for 12 hours. every time i tried to contact them there is no response and the last time i contacted them they hung up on me. If you see this as normal, tell me. For me it is one of the worst companies I have worked with. if there is an option to rate you i would put you below zero because you are worthless. We are paying you unfairly

I am currently writing this while waiting in my car after calling the RAC at 2:25 PM. The initial rescue time provided was 3:40 PM - 5:40 PM, which was subsequently revised to 7:20 PM - 9:20 PM. I am disappointed with the lack of assistance provided by the team and regret my decision to become a new customer.

Called 4.40pm, alone in car park, electrical faults, told RAC would be there at 8pm. Had to move car as car park was closing and area was dark. Was told it was not safe to move car but then told by other operator it was my decision. Drove car with rattling engine to main road with hazards. Told it would be around 10pm. No escalation about female on own, in dark. Drove 5 mph home. Told RAC would be here by 1.50am. Escalation team rang said now I was home safe, no guarantee of time as other people may be vulnerable. What a ridiculous service. Spike to 9 people all saying something different. Wish I had never left the AA. Now told it will be tomorrow BUT no guarantee anyone would turn up.

I has recently broken down with my child in the car in a remote village. called RAC who told me to pay £199 fpr a call out plus £11 per month, advised road side assistance would be there is 15 mins to half an hour. Recieved a text saying a 5 to 6 hour wait. Rang back and advised was not was told , now have to wait 14 days for a miss sold call out to be paid back. Avoid...all a scam to get your money.

Member for 4 years. When I finally needed help they estimated a 5 hour wait. Not happy, cancelled the renewal and they tried to set up a £5 payment to cancel.

DONT USE THE RAC Just a warning to anyone renewing or thinking of changing their breakdown insurance to the RAC you may live to regret it. We had an awful experience with them on Wednesday. If you think that my experience is unusual it isn’t. There’s a Facebook group a catalogue of hundreds of similar experience. They thought it was ok to leave me for 5 hours in an unattended car park in the middle of the night. Our son came to get us ( jump leads wouldn’t work and next morning took a power pack from the garage where I have my car serviced and got started straight away after failing to try to get a call out from the RAC again) Don’t pay your premiums up front because even though they didn’t come to me they say I have used their services so I can’t get a refund. Now back with the AA

Utter rubbish. Had been a member from 1984 to 2024 and had called them out just four times over the 40 years. Locked my keys in the car and they told me I needed key replacement, which wasn't covered. Refused to come out and tried to fob me off with a key replacement firm (who could not/would not help). Eventually managed to find someone who came out and had the door open in 10 seconds (and charged me a lot - was late Sunday evening, so fair enough). The RAC used to be good, but since being taken over by private equity, they have been increasingly awful and expensive. Avoid.

Appaling service. Didn't answer calls. Impossible to report online as wouldn't recognise car registration so could not proceed. Complained to RAC who said no record of trying to call and, after review, closed complaint.

They state in their advertisement that they get to you within 60minutes. This is a lie, I broke down around 18:00 and did not shave my car recovered at a garage until 5 this morning. They don’t prioritise women’s safety, avoid at all costs.

My policy automatically renewed from 34 per month to 52. The justificstion? In 6 years I used them 3 times... disgusting service.

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the key replacement service I received yesterday. I trusted RAC to help me with a straightforward issue, but unfortunately, RAC service has left me with a much bigger problem. Prior to the service, my old spare key was working perfectly fine. However, after your technician completed the key replacement, neither the new nor the old key works, and I am now unable to start my car. This is highly frustrating and inconvenient, as I was expecting your service to resolve my issue, not create further problems. To make matters worse, I received an email from them advising me that this situation has nothing to do with RAC and suggesting that I take my car to a mechanic myself. This is entirely unacceptable, as the issue clearly arose from the work done by them key replacement service, making it your responsibility to rectify the situation.

Im a woman left on a dangerous road with only a ditch to stand in for over 5 hours waiting for help! I was told was a priority but The estimated time for recovery kept changing…getting longer and longer. By third call to them I was told I should have called the police to move me as their recovery would not be able to assist me where i was stranded…why the hell didn’t anyone tell me that to begin with??? Police came and over 2 hours later RAC sent a partner to recover it, so just brought the car back home as my this time it was night and everything closed! To add insult to injury they then want to charge me over £100 to get the car to the garage to be fixed! Pathetic service, in fact no service! I’d rather give my money directly to the garage for recovery than them…DONT WASTE MONEY ON RAC! You spend more time listening to their message warning you about being aggressive to their people - obviously happens a lot to them through customers sheer frustration! The only breakdowns are the mental ones they cause customers!!!

Broke down on hard shoulder, meant to be priority? Waited from 5 pm to midnight for tow truck, Then tow truck would only take us 35 miles,then waited another 3 hours for next tow truck arrived home at 5 am. Absolute disgrace, constant lying about what time they would arrive, never trust rac

Have an RAC breakdown policy. Had it approx 3 years . downloaded the app recommended by RAC and opted for my documents to be stored electronically again recommended by RAC. Then with no prior knowledge got an email saying I can no longer use the app as they did not want to mislead me with inaccurate information ??????? whatever that means. Straight away I had lost access to my membership number and all of my documents. I put in a complaint and after more than a month got a reply saying they had done nothing wrong and hard luck. Would not recommend them to anybody. All they want is your money and nothing else.

6 hours to recover a lorry that was on a dangerous rd is a ridiculous amount of time to wait. I have spent the whole of my work day chasing this company who in return have blamed Cordwallis at Heathrow for Their awful service. Sorry RAC you are the ones who have not done your job properly and both Cordwallis and ourselves had the phone records as proof. its a shame your staff didnt record all of the calls.

I have had the worst breakdown experience ever yesterday. I called them at 4.30pm to report my van won't start. The initial time was 5.40 - 6.30, that changed to 7.45, that then changed to 11.30- 2.40am!!! On a Sunday evening! I was stuck in a field in a stately home that lock up for the night. No one asked how to get in or called me to ask. I had to complain after waiting for 3.5 hours, then they sent a different company. He called me when at a different gate but his English was so poor that I told him to go to the end of the road and turn right, then right again, but he turned left... He couldn't understand me. An office called and an English speaker thankfully so I explained to him how the driver can get in to me, as the English heritage home would only let people in through the deliveries gate. Eventually he came but didn't have a screw driver to take the cover off the battery... So he went to his van and got a kitchen knife to try! You could not write this stuff! I told him it wasn't going to work and told him what piece he needed for a screwdriver and he went back to his van and bought out some bits.... I saw the bit that was needed but he insisted on using a flat one, I didn't want him to use this as it wasn't wide enough and will mess up the head and then the screw won't come out... I asked him to use the one I picked out of his box and eventually he did use it and the screw came out... Because it was the correct bit! I cannot even begin to explain how ridiculous this all was... What has happened to the RAC?? I had no food and two animals in the van and no toilet... And they wanted to leave me there as a lone female for 10 hours!!!???? As it was it ended up being 5, which is still ridiculous. I then tried to complain on their website but it wouldn't accept the registration number. Terrible. I am going to green flag

Absolutely horrible. Broke down with 2 children 1 of which has a medical condition and a partner who has had surgery. Told RAC this they told us this they will send someone out We have been here 5 hours now and each time we ring they tell us 45 minutes even though they STILL have us down as PENDING which means they have lied to us all this time. Do not rely on them, a-holes
