Had a new alternator fitted on the 20th May 24 and an hour after the mechanic left I went out in the car and there is an issue with what seems to be misfiring. Contacted mechanic within hour of him leaving and he said to see how it went over next few days. Contacted them today and they want to charge me £75 to re-attend. NO WAY ! If this was a proper garage I would just take it back there and park it up for them to rectify.

I made a call to be told to use your app or over the internet not helpful. Making a call was not easy unless i wanted to buy. My car was at home was told they would arrive on the 29/5/2025 “ 1830 no show received a call telling me they would call the next day which they did at 0846. The gentleman was lovely told me my coil had broken it was making a really bad banging noise. He told me to drive the car to the garage and he would follow me. I told him I could not do that due to the noise coming from the car. He told me he would drive it to Leven Scotland and get some one to drop him back. However the car was booked into Glenrothes Fife. My car is still on my drive I told him my husband would drive it he said tell to be careful. Well what was the point in me calling RAC out. I am still in the same predicament I still have to get my car to the garage myself. Terrible service from the RAC Catherine Moseley Leven Fife Scotland

Abysmal service. 2 pensioners stranded in the cold all night at an airport parking lot. Despite the hour quoted on websites we waited more than 5 hours. Now received a cheque for £40 in compensation. Will not be trusting the RAC again.

Abysmal… 2 days waiting for a patrolman to come out. I’ve paid for the home service, but apparently I’m not a priority. Why sell it then? Very rude letter back after complaint. Been with them 20 years, first call out I’ve ever had Bye!

Would have given no stars if it wasn't for the staff member who came to our breakdown. Appalling service once my car had been taken to the dealership for repair. No contact from RAC and they don't answer the phone. Waste of .money having advanced cover, hire car was collected from me in less than 24 hours.

Disgusting arrogant breakdown van driver. Doesn't know rules of the road. Intimidating behaviour towards another driver. RAC driver in the wrong, knew he was but chose to aggressively intimidate me.

Response time was pretty fast however I was told that I had a cracked coolant tank when it was in fact a burst water pipe, the guy told me anyone with a mechanical brain would see that the issue was that the lid wasn’t screwed on the coolant tank properly or that the tank had a crack, I was then told later by a mechanic that I should not have drove home after being told to by the RAC, there was a red warning light and said do not drive however this guy told me to ignore it, was very condescending and wasn’t a pleasant experience

I've been with them maybe 10 years now and I don't think I've had one call out. I got a punchure by hitting a stone and was told that it's driver error so your not covered. This is despite thier T&C saying that they do come out for punchures. Grim!!

If u could give zero I would! 14 hours and 4 seperate waits and 3 seperate vehicles. I felt like a parcel in DPD distribution system being moved around the country! In one case I waited 3 hours to be taken from Watford gap services to donnington park services on the M1 a distance of 35 miles but not home. When I got there I got a message to say my recovery was complete and if I rang them about the same problem I would be charged! Had to wait another 3.5 hours for the next vehicle to get me back home in Sheffield. Finally got back at 2.30am. I would like to cancel but unfortunately it’s with the bank

Been a member for years . Left me and my 42 yr old xr3 by the road side for hours today . Originally called at 11.50 am and the app kept on moving the times so we went from 1.50pm to 1740 pm in this heat sitting by a busy round about . Never again . Will take my chances with the AA now . Clearly the rac only had staff who can plug a laptop in to find the problem . Not a proper mechanic who can work on old cars and fix the issue . Waste of time . 0 out of 10 .

Not a customer but our van had no battery so we were using jump leads from the side (no other parking) others on this small side road were great, we got a bit more charge, disconnected and then moved so they could get through. The 3rd driver was RAC so you'd think he'd understand. Absolutely NOT!!! He said move it now or I'm calling the police. At that point we managed to get the engine started so moved out of the way. He was rude and just plain nasty. I certainly wouldn't want him turning up to my car if I broke down alone at night. Someone was either having a bad day or has no idea how to deal with people.

This is the 3rd time I’ve called them. Have to wait up to 5 hours 1st time they the bolts came loose. On my drive shaft didn’t do them up properly. And it came off. Called them again it will be 3 hour on a dangerous road had 2 police cars. Help in the end they had it recovered. And today I would have to wait 4-7 hours. For them. I managed to sort it with a AA guy. I will be canceling rac never again

The RAC are the worst breakdown service in the UK. Avoid this shower and use the alternative. I made the mistake of trying them and it was a joke. Now back with the competition. They are purely a profit outfit. AVOID the RAC

May husband broke down on a slip road on the A21. He couldn’t get through to the RAC despite holding for a very long time, he was in no position to send an email so wanted to hold for an advisor. He was cut off and prior to that the automated message told him to refer to the police. He ended up holding up the rush hour traffic and causing serious delays. The RAC were no help whatsoever. He was lucky enough to be able to flag down a passing tow truck. We would like to end our membership with immediate effects, but unsurprisingly we cannot get through on the phone to do so.

Extremely disappointed with the service. I had called someone out for fix my car and he was unable to fix it so he arranged to send out RAC Mobile Mechanic. Before booking he confirmed a set price with me and never once said it will go up so I agreed with having that and I paid. I called them day before they were going to come out (even though they said they would get in contact with me) and it took me over a hour to get a hold of them and when they finally did answer the phone within 5 min they hung up and I had to call again and that took a hour again when I finally got a hold of them they were very rude and then changed the price of what I had already been quoted. While on the call they even admitted fault saying it is something that has been going on for some time now. They were going to order the part the night before but how would they know if the part was in stock? I had to pay within 24hr after the booking so you would have thought they would have ordered the part asap. I gave 1 star but if I could give lower I would. I really do not recommend using this service.

We broke down yesterday on the A607 it’s was teeming down with rain and it was 12.15. The car was in a dangerous position and we had to stand in the rain until a car stopped and 2 very kind people help us push the car into a nearby lay by. There were no facilities at all no toilets no where to get a drink. I rang RAC at about 12.30 pm and we got home at 10 pm we were 18 miles from home. Wet through very cold and very dehydrated. We are both in our late 70 ‘s so RAC thank you for nothing.

I bought a 3 year warranty with RAC when buying my used Audi Q5 from Fords of Winsford, Trafford. I paid £1000 for 3 year cover. Its garbage. I made a claim as my car went into limp mode and message had check engine. Went online and found a garage for diagnostic they suggested on their website. The garage did the diagnostic and said we cant do the work as its to do with turbo. Advised to go back to RAC. Called RAC and they told me to go to one of 3 recommended approved repairers. They were all over 10 miles away and I live in Warrington so plenty of garages here. So I took it to their approved recommended garage. The garage calls and says RAC will only approve £108 of the bill as they deem the repair will only last 0.3hrs according to the website they check. They will also only pay £32 for a part as they found it on Euro Car Parts. Its the cheapest piece of plastic. Garage said they wouldn't use that part as its rubbish and not worth installing. The part they wanted to fit cost £118 and when I checked online, that was about right for a decent turbo air flow sensor. Anyway, RAC argue that they will only pay for the 0.3hr labour and the cheap part and the rest is up to me. They say its in the T&C and its tough. My anger is that they told me to take it to their approved garage which is out of my way only for them then to dispute the charges and refuse to pay. Why would they recommend an approved garage if they don't agree with their rates and parts costs. If they told me in advance that this might happen, I would have taken it to Audi or a local garage and paid the difference. Appalling customer service and treatment. I have since made complaints to Assurant and the responses I have received are awful. In summary, the message is tough, its in your T&C's. This whole incident has left me with no car for over a week, stress and worry, and massive inconvenience and time. I have not got the money to cover the rest of the bill, and have been left without a car and with a £1000 warranty that is not worth the paper its written on. I am unable to get any refund. I believe I have been mis sold the warranty at point of sale in FOW, as they claimed it was piece of mind and very easy should something go wrong. They never discussed policy limitations of T&C's. I would have never bought this policy if I was made aware of the way in which RAC treat customers and refuse to pay when something goes wrong.
