Our key broke in the ignition lock. Emailed rac, and received a phone call within 30mins to say driver will be with you in next 15 mins. He turns up and within a min removes the broken section and leaves. Perfect service, couldn't be happier. Then following day I receive an invoice for £114.88 because it was a 'driver induced fault'. I would not mind if they told us during the phone call it may be chargeable or even if the engineer said it maybe. But not even get an authorisation prior to going ahead with the work is the work one would expect from back street garages. Will see if they issue a credit or will go elsewhere.

Do not use the RAC! I have been waiting 24 hours for them to rectify a job done weeks ago and still nothing. Outrageous!

My 81 year old mother had to wait 6 hours for the breakdown van to arrive when she was driving on the way to a holiday home she had rented. An absolutely, appalling service for an elderly lady who has now lost all confidence in going out in her car in case she has the same experience again. So much for your road side assistance and recovery. What a joke. How dare you advertise for more customers when you can’t cope with the ones you have.

Reported a flat tyre at 10:17am. At 11:30 received call saying recovery would be 90mins. 4hrs 15mins later still waiting. Was told a different story each time I rang, was lied to about what I’d been told. I’m diabetic had they said it would be 4hrs I could have gone and eaten and come back instead I kept waiting and even if they fix my car legally I cannot drive it now until I eat. They could not care less, absolutely useless I will be cancelling my cover and have already signed up with the AA.

Appalling experience twice within 6 weeks or so. Lots of hanging around "on hold" whilst their deliberately annoying "hold music" plays just one track endlessly on repeat, designed to encourage you to hang up and not bother. Several hours of waiting at the side of the motorway, in the cold and dark, with only their text messages for comfort. Continuing lies about how "busy" they are, how "hard" they are working and never ever giving an expected time of arrival for their patrolman. Eventually their contractor turns up and explains that they are not allowed to pick me up along with my car, due to Covid. (The RAC seem to be one in a long line of companies who have used Covid as a profit-generating opportunity.) It was only due to his personal integrity that he didn't leave me stranded at the side of the motorway, which is what the RAC wanted to do, in the dark and rain at 11'o'clock. Even my complaint was handled poorly, offering no more than a few "sorries" in a badly written letter and £25! My membership is now cancelled, card ripped up and returned and now looking for proper breakdown cover by companies that actually care.

AVOID! The company will leave you stranded for hours. Lack of communication and hides behind COVID! Will be Changing companies asap.

I broke down on a Wednesday evening in Cornwall, They looked at the car on Thursday and was told not to use it they agreed to relay me home to Ashford Kent. Apparently I could not be relayed home because of Covid so the Company that picked up my car said it would be 5 to 7 days before they would relay it home so was left stranded without car and no way of getting home. They were useless, they booked a taxi to pick up a hire car in Truro when we got there the place was closed. No help what so ever even after many phone calls. In the end I paid for a train home and put in a claim so far not a word from the RAC. This is far from the whole story. It was the most stressful day and worst day of my entire life and I am 72. This is the worst company I have had to deal with in my life and the story is not yet finished. The only thing I will say is the Taxi company AtoB of Truro were wonderfull they stayed with me driving us around until I got the train at Truro at 5pm. Thanks also goes to Sage who helped me get my car back for repair to Canterbury in time.

My car started to play up and I managed to get off the motorway, thankfully, and contacted RAC. Well, when I say contacted, had to use the app to try and give the details of the problem. That was issue No.1. I was given no indication of how long I would have to wait and only received the occasional text message saying someone would come and they would call to let me know they were on their way. After an hour had went by, no call. Just as I was about to try phone to get an update a random garage van pulls up, not an RAC vehicle, and the guy gets out. His device had the wrong info as to what I had reported and thought I had a mis fuelling issue. He was also more upset that someone had damaged his vehicle earlier that day rather than looking at my problem. He couldn’t fix my problem as there seems to be a leak in the coolant system, probably a cracked flexi hose, and he says I need to get an uplift. He couldn’t tell me how long I was going to have to wait for this recovery vehicle but to wait a while and give them a call. By this point I had been away from home for 4.5 hours. I waited a while then phoned. The person that answered couldn’t understand me and I had to confirm everything in phonetics. It took about 20 minutes on the phone to him to only be told he doesn’t know how long it would be before I would be recovered but as I was now only 3 miles from home that I should abandon the vehicle and get someone to come get me and come back later. I informed him that there was no one to come get me or I would already have done so. He was still less than helpful and said I would just have to wait but it could be two hours. At this point I was frustrated and as the engine had cooled down I decided to risk driving it home slowly. I got home 20 minutes later and cancelled the job, again an automated service. I got a call from a random number at 8.30pm, 3 hours after I had spoken to the operator, and he was going to be another 45 mins to get to me. So had I not just said sod it I’m going to risk it, I would still be stranded at the roadside until after 9pm, nearly 6hours later. I have no idea where I would have taken a p**s had I had to wait, plus I have animals at home that were needing fed. Ridiculous lack of service and I would suggest strongly that people look at other breakdown services. I would give them ZERO stars if I could.

Been a member of the RAC for years without actually needing their help. Then last year my partners car wouldn't start. The RAC came out and got it going, for it to breakdown while we were out and leaving us stranded. Keeping my faith I renewed my membership thinking it was a 1 off error. I had a puncture last week and I was left waiting 5 hours until 00:40 am. That was the time I gave up waiting. I left the car, I went home and got up early called an independent tyre fitter who fixed the problem within the hour. The RAC are useless. AVOID.

I’m heavily pregnant and was stranded on my own at the side of a busy road for over 6 hours waiting for RAC recovery!! They knew my condition and couldn’t give a damn. Disgusting service with no communication. My case was eventually escalated to management to phone me back within 45minutes…but they never bothered to phone me back. Worse service I’ve ever known. Wish I could’ve given 0 stars.

Would give NO stars but not possible I have the TOP level of cover and a rare intermittent fault in my egr wiring plug put my vehicle into limp home mode in a 60 mph limit after a few cars dangerously overtaking enough was enough I pulled into a forest car park in the middle of nowhere leant over the engine top to unplug the connector and plug in it solves the dangerous limp issue but when I started it I found that I'd accidentally damaged the fragile leak off connector on an injector top spraying fuel all over the engine called the rac explained the situation and they refused to recover me as they tried to claim it was "self inflicted damage" legally self inflicted damage is "knowingly or purposely damaging a vehicle" which I ACCIDENTALLY damaged it they continually refused for an hour and a half saying that it would be£100! To recover me coming up to end of business for local garage services after 3 hours stranded physically disabled with a dog a car full of shopping in the middle of nowhere 5 miles from anywhere I had to pay for a local garage to recover me which the Recovery. At. Cost company are refusing to pay even my insurance company said that they should have recovered me with the level of cover and accidental incident in this case I feel like I've been robbed by a rogue criminal bdoor to door salesman if they don't refund me I will never be using a fake recovery service like them again and will be seeking to get them properly regulated against fraudulent business practices!

Bloody awful! Take best part of an hour to answer the phone even, then apathetic operator can’t tell you any information other than what’s on your policy and then hours to even arrive!!!! Do yourself a favour and choose a different provider! I’d give ZERO stars if I could. Atrocious service and total apathy from staff

When it comes to payment & autorenewal, this company is not transparent. When I took breakdown policy with them, I am sure I opted out of autorenewal but I do not have any email proof from RAC that I opted out of auto renewal. Now they have deducted £25 as administration fee when I called them to say that why was it auto renewed & that I wan to cancel the policy. Beware they take your money fraudulently.

I had to chose this company due a emergency breake down and paid 199£ pay as you go . Then the garage i been taken to they couldn't accept the job so my car has been left in their parking . After few days i paid 100£ for a 10 miles recovery to a closer garage . I have been told that will take up to 2 hours and i have been waiting from 12pm to 18:30pm . The garage where i planned to take the car closed at 17:00 so my car could not be sorted that day and i had to make another booking . As a registered nurse i cannot lose more days waiting as i work all over devon so i loose more time and more money + risking my job by canceling shifts and leaving vulnerable people at risk. All their staff are incompetent and rude, as i spoken very nice and polite and they hang up on me, they sound like none of them can't be bothered to do their job . The service i received was disgusting and unacceptable .
