On Friday night I called RAC and they gave me an ETA of 3 hours which was bad enough, after waiting for two hours I called them again to learn that I had been booked in for 10.30pm - 5 hours after my initial call! I was fuming - they never even bothered to let me know - later they called me to tell me (after I had traveled home) that it would the following morning before they could recover my vehicle.

Yesterday my car alarm decided not to switch off !! Within half an hour a very nice polite friendly efficient Derek arrived and toiled for over an hour to sort it. It wasn’t an easy fix especially as he had the loudest siren in his ear the whole time. Excellent service.

Whist driving from home to Corsham on Saturday 27th October, car started making a terrible racket. Pulled over onto hard shoulder, then grass verge and called RAC. This was at 14.03pm, took ages to get through, explained what was wrong, said we needed to wait for Patrol Man. Andrew appeared within the hour and checked out the vehicle. didn’t have the correct tool to fix the car, which I thought was bad, surely they should have the right kit. In the end he gave us two options, get recovery to destination then find a garage to hopefully fix car or get recovery back home at a total cost of £265 as I didn’t have the right package. After discussion we agreed it was probably better to head home. Andrew told us if Recovery wasn’t there by 16.30pm to call in, which I did. Told we would have to wait as they didn’t have a recovery vehicle available so they had to use a subcontractor who would be with us in 2hrs. Sat in the car freezing in a lay-by waiting for CVR to turn up. Luckily he came half an hour early and he got us sorted in no time. RAC please make sure your patrolmen have the right tools when they are attending breakdowns - I could have been enjoying my Birthday break in a lovely Hotel, not sat at home 😞

I broke down Monday midday, so not the busiest time or so you would have thought. It took them 2.5 hours to get a patrol out to me, I wonder how long it would take at a peak time? It took almost an hour to answer my call. As I had broken down in a KFC carpark with a 2 hour limit I'll be getting a £100 fine for that, but they've left it to me to argue the point I'd broken down which no doubt is easier said then done. I made a complaint over the phone was told a manager would call back they didn't! Complainted to the CEO but they don't care, a £15 insult they see to be goodwill but apparently they don't normally give anything! So if you're stranded and have paid for a membership for peace of mind it's a one way road with RAC because they'll take along as they want and don't care even if it's hours!

Told it was going to take 1.5hrs but because I have a 1 and half year old son they were going to try and get one sooner. 1.5hrs went by and I called for update, person told me he would call back to update me which didn't happen. Nothing after 2 hours so called again all this time with little one in the car in the freezing cold. Missed chance to arrange for him him to be picked up earlier due to lack of update and accurate ETA. lady I spoke to after 2 hours of waiting was extremely rude on the phone to me, zero empathy and had I decided to hang up as that was a waste of time and she was making matters worse. Its been 2 hours 20 minutes as I'm writing and still nothing. Absolute JOKE.

I can’t even pay for my memebership! Trying to re-New it on line and it won’t let me! Said there was a problem and I have to call a number, which I have and was on hold for 30 min, only to be told I was through to the wrong dept! Then put through to another dept who took all my car details, then asked where I had broken down! I only want to pay my membership! And the automated message said they are very busy, but said you can pay and do it on line, if only! Now been on hold now for another 30 min! Still waiting...... Might give up and go with another company!

RAC drives people as they have advertised. Drive you made!!! Car broke down down on the A406 on way to work at 8.45pm on a cold night of 26.10.2018. RAC advised that help will arrive in 2 hours. 2 hours later RAC made no contact. RAC was contacted they said it is another 5 hours wait (1.45am) - (This was after they took forever to answer the phone) RAC did not show up until 10 hours later after 7.00am on Saturday morning 27.10.2018. Freezing, dead phone and pissed off. My friends, work colleagues and family will never be customers to RAC.

Put the wrong fuel in on M62 services- Hartshead Moor, contacted RAC who said since it wasn't mechanical then it would cost me £249 which I paid over the phone etc. I was at the side of the road for over 4.5 hours with 2 children and 2 friends - all female- so much for priority service for lone females. Every time I rang the same explanations before anything would happen or any information given- absolutely rubbish and disgraceful service from RAC. I didn't get the service I requested which was a pump out of the fuel, they eventually towed me home some 5 hours later. Then next day I had to take off work since the pump out guy had to come from York to Doncaster so he came @0945 and the job was completed by 1/2 hour. Absolutely terrible service. Upon complaining- it will be investigated, no offers whatsoever of compensation nor some of the pump out money refunded- complete waste of time and effort with this rubbish company- avoid like the plague-membership being cancelled ASAP

After a very stressful week, today I had a tyre blow out. I called the service at 15:28 by 15:48 the recovery driver called me to say he would be with me in ten minutes and sure enough he was. Not only did he put a spare on that he supplied as I didn’t that have one, he followed me to the tyre company 11 miles from where I had been stranded. He dealt with the tyre company and ordered the tyre I needed, offered me a coffee and stayed with me and chatted, as I feel he could see I was quite distressed. Based on that recovery driver alone I could not fault the service. I hope he realises how much comfort he was to me today. So thank you Ralph! You are a credit to RAC! Truly went above and beyond today

Terrible company - RAC themselves describe the service they provided to us (along with 3+ months to respond to a complaint) as 'Unacceptable' but also demand payment for the 'unacceptable service' See response below from Irfan - Think twice when considering RAC. You will be lied to, your driver(s) WILL be stuck out in the rain at the side of a busy road for 4+ hours and then RAC will take over 3 months to respond to the complaint. I think the way we have been treated is disgusting, I would highly recommend the AA instead. We were going to add our entire fleet to RAC cover - but have done this elsewhere for fears of the same 'unacceptable service' Irfan @RAC Customer care quoted - '' The service we provided was unacceptable and steps have been taken to help prevent any future recurrence. I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience, or upset we may have caused'' Women, people with children and those suffering illness - I would seriously think twice before using the RAC if you can't deal with being left at the roadside for 7 hours. A definite no-go for anyone vulnerable & even when you complain about the awful ordeal you went though - you'll still be demanded to pay Please see the timeline of events below which are wholly unacceptable. 16:00 - Our driver (Scott) informs us his vehicle has broken down 16:08 - My colleague, Rory calls RAC and spends 42 minutes on hold, waiting for the phone to be answered 20:30 - Our driver scott, who has been waiting in the rain and freezing wind for 2.5 hours received a call from RAC informing him that the recovery vehicle has broken down within 3 miles of his breakdown destination. 22:00 - The RAC arrive onsite with our driver who has now been sat outside in the freezing cold wind and pouring rain for 7 hours

Please be aware paying full membership to RAC. I paid 134 pounds for full RAC membership and they terribly let me down . I broke down and they 1st call handler where very unhelpful rude women she told me I need to wait 3 to 4 hours. 2nd call 6 to 8 hours . 3th call 12 hours to next day . I complain and being told its my fault that I didn't wait for 48 hours or more. I asked them for refund my money or reimburse the extra expense that I had to pay my own recovery. They replied email saying I was to blame being un patient and I am unhappy for the service I she'll go to the financial ombutsmen service I have no chance because they are very powerful company.

Why there is no ZERO they even don't deserve one star . I broken down at home when I called 15th October RAC 9am just to be told I was no risk and be low priorities I have to wait 3 to 4 hours. It was hard to take but I accepted . After 4 hours I received call from them telling me they are unable to come till latter that night after rush hours that means I had to wait 13 to 14 hours. After all that no one came. Next I complain to RAC and I was advised to take the matter to the financial ombudsman service I asked them to refund my money because I paid full one year membership and they where not providing the service they sold. 2 week's later. No apologies no refund. Never pay full membership to any insurance

Kept me waiting for 3 hours so I cancelled based on repeated poor service and no means of getting updated when waiting. RAC have been taking money out of my account despite cancelling roadside assistance for failure to deliver - I have consulted with my bank and discovered the ongoing deductions. They refuse to refund the money taken out over three years and the bank are unable to stop the transactions. Consumers need to be warned against this company and its questionable practices. You have been warned.

I broke down on Friday 19th October. I told them I was a lone female. They told me originally it would be a 3 to 4 hour wait, later I was told it would be a 6 hour wait. After strongly complaining they did eventually get to me in 4 hours! Utterly disgraceful service! The same thing happened to me 6 years ago and they assured me it was a one off! I won't be renewing with them. No confidence or trust in their ability!

Still waiting in a dark car park since 4 hours ago as apparently you have lots of incidences...Excuse Me??? I am paying for emergencies like this to be sorted. If you don't have enough workers it's your own problem. I am disgusted, shocked, angry, unsafe as I am still waiting alone in the dark and you are not professional at all. Not recommended at all. If you have daughters, wife or little children, would you like them to be waiting in the dark just because? No thank you. Horrified how this company is so unprofessional and they don't care about customers safety.

Took 15 minutes for anyone to answer my call. Was told it would take up to 3 and a quarter hours for a breakdown van to arrive. After an hour and a half I was updated with a call telling me it would be at least 4 and a half hours from the time my call was originally received. I gave up and called a garage who dealt with my problem within 30 minutes. Why am I paying the RAC for a service they are not providing and having to pay a garage as well?
