On receiving my renewal it had increased over twenty per cent to over £1200 when most companies were reducing there prices

I had an issue with my Car battery, which went flat and RAC has appointed expert in short span of time. Daniel Hillier (2472) arrived in 15 mins and he was very helpful and informative. His experience was exceptional. He has verified thoroughly and replaced with new battery in no time by picking new battery from different location. "Daniel Hillier is very friendly and he is a great asset for RAC"

I'd like to praise the way a RAC van stopped when I was clearly in trouble in a rather dangerous spot. Previously I'd been passed by a police car that hadn't stopped. I hadn't called the RAC and the diver didn't know whether or not I was a member when he stopped. I am. He was absolutely fantastic. Clearly someone who is just naturally helpful. Bright, cheerful, informative, reassuring and did everything he could to get me and the wife (who's disabled with MS), going again. Just brilliant. Anthony Jefferson is a very nice person and an absolute credit to the RAC and the world.

10 hour wait so far for tow truck given up after 4 hours so got a lift home good job as I’d still be waiting just a shame I’ve had to abandon my vehicle , will cancel membership after this as it’s not the first time I’ve had a long wait they even take 20 mins to answer the emergency line ! …. Totally shocking , my advise would be to go elsewhere

So ..broke down today and although I'm not a member of any breakdown service I feel I needed to post this.....phoned the RAC and was aware I would need to join there and then only to be told by the woman on the phone they wernt taking any new clients on that day.....what a joke ..wonder what they would have said if I had been female on a lonely road...sorry not today we aren't taking on new clients....personally I just think they couldn't be bothered......AA were great..had to pay a surcharge but they got to me within and hour. ..

Understand there are busy periods but having to wait 8 hours is unacceptable.

Absolutely RUBBISH , I have no more words as to how bad the RAC are . Do not use . My daughter broke down at 6pm . I used the RAC app and reported the breakdown . Someone rang me approx an hour later and said did we need them tonight ? Or could they come tomorrow!!! I obviously said tonight . 4 hours 10 mins later and only text messages to say they are busy , no Body arrived to our breakdown !! I will be ringing tomorrow as from 7pm you cannot speak to anyone . Cancelling my membership and never ever using them again . I have been with the AA before and had no problems . I have 2 daughters with cars , I need a breakdown provider that actually does that . DO NOT USE THE RAC !!!

My daughter’s car broke down many miles from home. With no adverse weather conditions she was told there was a 3-4 hour wait. Seriously?!? 5 hours later and still no sign of them. Absolute appalling

Avoid like the plague. I’ve been a loyal customer for 5+ years and have made 2 call outs in total. Despite this, my yearly newly always increases and I have to waste time battering it down simply for being a loyal customer and not actually using the services! RAC have refused to beat last years policy even by £1, despite not making a claim and none of my circumstances have changed. Customer service and the complaints department have been appalling. I will never return to this shamble of a company. Please don’t waste your time and go elsewhere unless you want to pay through the nose for something you may use once every 3 years…. And be warned when you do actually need them, you’ll have to wait for 5 hours and they will arrive with the incorrect equipment, unable to help.

I called my breakdown insurance company on 19/3/2022 at about 8 pm because My car was not starting, although the battery was patent. RAC petrol Simon (Mobile. Number: 07966602904) came after a long wait of about 2 hours.  He told me after a visual inspection that he couldn't understand what the issue actually was, so the car should be taken to a garage.  I requested him that at least he should try a jump start by connecting my car to the battery of his professional van which he kindly did but couldn't start the car. I called the insurance company again soon after the RAC petrol went back and asked them to arrange a mobile mechanic for my car as I had to go along with my family to Bradford to see my seriously ill cousin but they told me that they have already sent their mechanic,  who I believe was not a suitable qualified mechanic. Further, they told me that I would have to wait for Monday as garages were closed on Sunday and they refused to help me further till Monday.  I  hired a private car by spending £550 and went to Bradford.  On coming back I called the company again to send me their RAC Petrol report. They told me that the report has not been submitted to them yet and that they will ask the relevant department to collect and send me the report as I requested.  I was really astonished when I googled and hired for £60 the services of a mobile mechanic in my area and told him that despite the battery being good, my car was not starting. He just refreshed the settings of my car on the dashboard and started the car successfully and there is no issue afterwards. It means the RAC petrol Simon didn't know this quite simple thing, that is why I believe he was not a qualified mechanic at all and he as well as his company didn't try to help me in this difficult time despite my request again & again.  They haven't only failed to help me, for which I pay to them but also caused me a financial damage of £610 beside tremendous mental torture.

I was told somebody would be around in 1 hour 30 minutes for an at home breakdown. The ETA is now 5 hours and going up. This was bundled in as part of my insurance policy. I am never going to fall for that one again. Next time I will make sure I get separate breakdown cover with somebody else.

At 2:45pm today, my breakdown was logged with RAC. My vehicle is covered by my lease company and these are who they use. I explained the car wasn't driveable because the gearbox had gone but I was told someone would come out and that there was no wait time available. Odd. Then a lady rang to tell me I'd have up to a 3hr wait but that I was priority so someone should be with me sooner. I received updates via text but these stopped after 2 hours. By this time I had managed to get to my mums 10 miles away so when the updates stopped, I assumed it was because the technician had arrived at my car without letting me know and I made my way back to my broken down car in my personal car. No technician in sight so after 20mins I rang for an update. I was told I wasn't priority and that I'd have to wait until 8:30pm for someone to get to me. After telling the chap this wasn't good enough, he said someone would be out between 6:30 and 7pm. It was 5:45pm at this point. Technician rang to say he was on his way. Asked what the problem was then said it wasn't anything he could fix so they'd have to contact a 3rd party recovery company and that he wouldn't even come to look at my car. I was told to wait to hear from them, this was 6:35pm. By 7 I decided to go home as I needed to eat and go to the loo. As I got home, at 7:10pm, I receive a phone call from RAC asking where the car key is because the recovery company wanted to know. Were they at the car? Who knows. Anyway, he said he'd let them know and ring me back in 5 mins. At 8pm I receive a call from yet another person from RAC with an update. They couldn't find a recovery company to pick my car up and their suggestion was that I wait indefinitely to hear from them and that they would contact me when the recovery company is 20mins away. I was expected to wait all night for this call that may never come.. At 9pm I called them again for an update. They had no log of the call at 7:10pm, had no update other than they'd tried 11 local recovery companies and they all refused because my car was too far away. Local companies to me or them?? Again, I was told to wait for a call. Its now 00:10am, nearly 10 hours after I broke down, and my car is still sitting at the side of the road outside someone's house. To say I'm disgusted with this service is an understatement. How on earth can anyone say that this amount of time to wait for recovery and this kind of service from one of the UK's biggest breakdown companies is acceptable? I will NEVER go back to this company and will make sure my next lease vehicle isn't looked after by them.

On 17th February 2022, at 5pm approx, we called the RAC due to a tyre blowout on the M5 in hope that they would use one of their "trusted partners" to get us a tyre and change it. Sadly we had no spare but you'd think something so simple would be resolved. Instead, they are trying to wiggle their way out of this one by saying we had no tyre cover and only a 10 mile tow. They have changed a tyre for me in the past where they got it and I paid for it and put it on, so its not really an excuse. To add, we were towed to the next services and literally left stranded with no resolution. We were told by the towing guy that we would be lucky to find a tyre company in that area to fix our issue. He then left. We called the RAC again to see what else we can do, because by this point we had a flat battery due to hazards being left on while we were broken down earlier, and RAC failed to come out and jump start us (it was 2:40am by then the next morning so total of 9.5 hours of no resolution - the same day storm Eunice was closing in so we had no choice but to take matters into our own hands). We sorted out our own 24 hours recovery service and had to swallow a cost of £440.00 which RAC agreed to only compensate 40.00 GBP which was unacceptable. Sadly, I have used RAC for many many years via my Barclays Bank insurance policy prior to having my own direct account, and they have always been good with NON URGENT situations, but in this instance in particular, a real emergency on the M5 was treated absolutely terribly. We were left stranded! It was just awful and very typical that in a real emergency situation they were awful and sadly to add, their partner (towing guy) was very rude and had no customer service experience at all. We were also in the van at the back of the tow truck when we were towed. I was also asked to drive up the ramp onto the pick-up truck with a flat tyre. I mean, is that even legal? The entire claim and details of this has been supplied to the Ombudsman service with evidence of their rubbish services. We trusted and paid RAC for this service and they did not deliver at all and caused a lot of stress and anxiety.
