A Patrolman came out and diagnosed that my car needed a new bearing and a new battery. He rang a local RAC recommended garage and asked if they had the parts to do the work immediately. The garage proprietor confirmed this. The following day I rang the garage to find out the charges and when I could collect my vehicle. They told me it would now be a week or more before they would look at my car –It was 9 days then not all the work was. They gave me one quote for the work offered of £87 which once accepted they then subsequently told me they needed to add VAT & Labour making it a total of £127. During these 9 days, No response from RAC customer care or the executive office. This my second bad experience with the RAC in a matter of months. The first time management subjected me to extra rip-off charges of £197 that should have been covered by the original agreement. This time I find their garages can’t be trusted either. After reading this, it’s really your risk if you choose to do business with them? To clarify, after ripping me off once, my car was then taken to a RAC recommended garage for immediate work on 19 May. It was there for 9 days - during that time the garage was not entirely honest with me. The RAC responded to the disappearance of car my 2 weeks later on 3 June - only to say that they were not taking responsibility for the garages they recommend. Dealing with the RAC is like asking the Yorkshire Ripper to baby sit your infant daughter. You've been warned!

Terrible terrible !!! Worst breakdown service I have encountered. Patrol took 2 hours to come . Spent 5 minutes then said need a tow. Waited another 2 hours only to be told their are getting another trusted agent to tow and will take another 2 hours. An absolute disgrace.

I have been paying RAC for years and years just first time I asked for help when rear suspension of my car was gone after passing over speed breaker The attendant was not only rude she asked me to pay £150 Aprox before they turn up When I protested she consulted her manger and Engeneer came and advised to arrange a pick up to garage Another racist lady taking smoothly but racist , did not book pick up and ask to ring early on the day of appointment with garage Asked her to speak to mamager She consulted the manager and manger did not bother to speak to me and she said you will get the same answer Disgusting with repeated failings and decided to leave in despair and disappointment Ringing now all relative and friends to leave RAC and they will

The worst road cover ever. They take a very long time to respond on the phone, they are very disorganised and give the wrong information. I needed a towing truck as I had a breakdown by a motorway, they assured me that the truck was coming in 30 minutes and sub contracted the job to someone else who when I called after 45 minutes said they just received the job and said they would take an hour to arrive. On top of that shocking level of lack of basic communication skills I had to pay £180. I would never recommend either Tesco or RAC cover.

Do not become a member. I was charged for parts that I did not need. They keep you waiting for hours and overcharge. They have a rubbish service and rubbish customer care. Extremely rude engineers and customer service. Go to AA or Green flag. You've been warned!

On being unable to start my car due to a broken starter motor I added Home Start to my RAC cover and was told that I could expect the mechanic to visit within 4 hours. Afetr 4 hours and nothing I was told that the mechanic had 2 more calls and wouldn't be with me until 8.00pm another 2 hours. I only found that out by phoning them twice again. Nah! I'm going to cancel their service is non existent. Be warned

I have been charged £550 for 2 x recoveries in the last year. This last one, I was quoted £85 on the phone, I agreed they then added an extra £180 after loading my car up! This was not quoted, it was never mentioned, they waited until I couldn't get out of it before throwing in the extra charge. Underhanded thieves

RAC refused to send someone out because they had got the wrong information and told me it was my fault. Appalling customer service from Mia in Manchester.

Does anyone else ever get an email that can't be opened just before the renewal date ? Let it go the first year and renewed automatically. But the same happened this year aswell tried to phone them up but had no joy. Just cancelled direct debit in the end. As an afterthought the email they send you after you auto renew opens no problem. A bit of a scam easily dealt with

Absolute disgrace of a company and it is no suprise that they only have a 1 and a half star review on this website, their 3 red strike rule for the rac black box is never explained as to how it works an they give out no letters of warning to the customer yet they are more than happy with taking money off their customers. The only information you get is when they send you the letter your insurance is being cancelled. Also with the letter that your insurance will be cancelled it arrived through my letterbox the day before my insurance was set to be cancelled yet it was written on the letter that this should have been in my possession 6 days previous to this which shows again shockingly bad business. I then rang to try and discuss this mistake with rac and to try an find out what my apparent 3 red strikes were for and they would not give me an answer an the man who answered the phone had no idea about some of the basic questions I was asking him about the company such as there terms and regulations. Therefor if you are getting an insurance I cannot recommend highly enough that you do not chose to go with rac as you will be wasting your time an money.

Called RAC, car would not start. Technician arrived did not run a diagnostic. Took air filter apart spray quick start in and asked me to turn the engine over. Still would not start. Keep turning it over he said until the battery was dead. He connected a power pack and told me to continue for 30 seconds or so. That abruptly said stop. I hot out of the car and asked what is that burning smell, he said it's where the air filter is disconnected. In fact it was the starting motor burning out which he obviously new hence the abrupt stop instruction. He then ran a diagnostic and could find no fault. He decided to tow me to a garage, then smashed the front of my car in with the tow bar, by turing left before the car had started to roll. He then told to call customer services and they would sort out the damage. I contacted RAC and it will take 20 days for them to get in touch with regards to their incompetent technician and him wrecking my car. NEVER AGAIN GREEN FLAG next time.

Today 25th April 2020, my disabled daughter and I broke down on the M80 between Denny and Stirling. Due to the current situation Covid19 the breakdown recovery was pretty quick. I was told it would take 45 mins and Stephan arrived 1hr and 10 later. Apologetic on our wait and very helpful. My Zaferia 06 plate went into a cloud of smoke from the engine. Dash lights where red and Amber. Car was unable to start. Stephen spoke to my machanic who he know as he's a local man himself to give him probable cause of breakdown and fault. Due to social distancing he was unable to take my daughter and I to the garage and then home, something RAC offer. I was offered a paid taxi, but my better half came. My daughter and I were very thankful. Great service Thanks again Stephen

I give RAC 3stars for the 5hr wait, but would give the RAC mechanic a 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. He spent time on my fuel problem and replaced a split fuel pipe rather than just towing it to a garage. Excellent job and very friendly and professional. Have had them before just turn up and tow it as can’t be bothered to try and fix the problem but this mechanic has been to me before and actually fitted a fuel pump for me. Always the same though the problem is normally someone on the end of a phone or in an office,
