Tour Ref 218EC, Eastbourne 03SEP23 In a heatwave, Alfa supplied a coach with broken air conditioning. Most passengers were pensioners, but Alfa did NOT supply free bottles of water, and the driver, Russell, did NOT open the roof hatches, thus denying us adequate ventilation. Russell was selling water for 80p (other Alfa drivers charge 50p). On the 5th day it was so hot that I was gulping air and crying on the coach. I told the driver on the 6th day that I thought I was going to die. He was rude and said “it’s not just you, everyone is hot” and we were “lucky to have the blowers (vents above the seats)” as he “didn’t even have that”. The single open window was next to his seat. The coach manual says the cabin temperature is displayed on the dashboard. It was obvious how much everyone was sweating. Travelling home, the outside temperature reached 33 C. We only had the small vents giving weak, warm airflow. We travelled for 2.25 hours without a break, then stopped for an hour when we were 30-40 minutes from the interchange. I was now gulping air, crying, and having stomach cramps, thinking “is this how dogs feel in hot cars?” The trauma stayed with me, and I had to have CBT/EMDR therapy. We complained to Alfa who apologised for the “discomfort” and claimed that "the driver did everything he could to try and provide additional cooling to the coach". Having asked repeatedly why the roof hatches were not opened, and what steps Russell did take to cool the coach, they repeat the same nonsense script (given to them by their lawyer, no doubt), ignored, or told they have “responded appropriately and thoroughly”. They have not. There is a dispute. We asked twice to enter arbitration. They refused. They even implied that I am the liar. They claim we are the only ones who have complained. (I read that the Post Office (scandal 2024) tried that one on, too). We asked about the feedback cards from the hotel which had a section about the coach, that question was ignored. Our holiday was ruined unnecessarily. We could have had a full day in Brighton, as advertised, if Russell had wanted (we had less than 3 hours off the coach). We could have been comfortable, if he had opened the roof hatches. He could have been concerned, not confrontational, when alerted that a passenger was finding the extreme heat distressing. We hope our fellow passengers stayed well, did not suffer dehydration from sweating, or any complications from the heat. All we wanted was a nice holiday, as advertised. Our only recourse is legal action. If you want to gamble with your time, money, and wellbeing, then do book an Alfa holiday. So much can go wrong, and if it does you will not see your money again unless you go to court. Alfa practices this tactic all the time judging by the reviews, so best book with a decent company that does care about its customers.

First time with Alpha and third for my mother. The hotel in Criceith very poor, cracked dirty windows, mattresses stored at the front of the hotel against a window. Food terrible, frozen produce. Lounge area scruffy and the hotel smells of damp. On our last day up at 6.30 am to leave suit case outside hotel door, breakfast not until 8am, coach doesn't leave until 9.30. We live 3 hours from Criceith however, it will 3pm before we arrive at Burton wood. Who organises the travel arrangements hasnt got a clue. Am afraid it will be my first and last trip with Alpha. Awful 😞

Organisation at Tamworth was poor/non existent, such a waste of time. Hotel was dated but clean and the staff were pleasant. Food was mostly boring and tasteless. Room was incredibly hot and the sash window was broken. TV signal in room was very poor and Wi-Fi in room was non existent. Air conditioning on coach broke (presumably due to poor maintenance) in a heat wave too!

Selborne Hotel Dunoon, photo in brochure very misleading, the chequered part of the garden is filthy and overgrown, 2 bags of rubbish just dumped there, horrible overgrown land opposite the main entrance which by the way isn’t the photo of the lovely garden in the brochure. The lounge we used was very dated and looked out onto a filthy, mouldy set of tiles would not go here again, I have emailed the company with the photos and complaints but I doubt anything will be done

There was no problem on the journey to Newquay it started when we went into our room which is room 121 for future reference do not go in that room and I advise to ask when booking what room number you are in as it is not suitable to stay in as its small poor condition and no ventilation .It was a lovely warm day also week we went to open the window and my husband said don't open it outside was disgusting some sort of housing u it pipes which were open all very dusty and filthy. As we needed ventilation because of covid it was very worrying. We had to stay out of the room most of the day. I complained to the manager but there was no more rooms available. The toilet was very small you could not get changed as you could not turn around. And the seat did not fight. I left a letter with the manager but I think that ignored. Also we gave been in many hotels sand when if were asked if we wanted room service they meant any extras eg.drinks, meals etc,not meaning not to come in the room to tidy up,empty bins change towels and add tea coffee milk biscuits. I had to go down stairs to reception to get tea coffee biscuits and milk because the room was not checked. I thought I would have been compensated for our distress as we are 73 and 78 years old. I was having many conversations with Alfa but all to no avail.

They're great at taking your money for the holidays but don't want to know about any complaints. Can definitely say don't go to Queens hotel in Eastbourne. No one wants to know about any complaints until the night before you check out. You've warned by T. Crowley of Birmingham

Be Careful if you book with this company.I booked a coach holiday by phone took out insurance as advised. I did not receive any documents from them apart from the tickets near to the holiday. The day before the holiday I became unwell high temperature etc. I checked Alpha travel information which said if you were feeling unwell not to travel. It did not say if you do not travel you will loose your holiday money. I contacted the insurance company and because I did not have a positive PCR test I was not covered. I did query with Alpha travel I had not received my invoice I was told they had problems with their post. To date i have not received any information about the insurance I paid for not had the opportunity to read terms and conditions. Alpha now say they did send the documents and invoice. Customer service very unhelpful. They refuse to comment on the fact that they advise not to travel if unwell but does not say you will loose your holiday and money. I have not had my holiday and lost every penny I paid for it. I will never travel with this company again.

Holiday to Dunoon a total disaster.Nothing to do there and unable to get meal in hotel at lunchtime. It took 12hours to get from yorkshire to Dunoon. Following morning it was 7am start to Arran, and Saturday was trip to Cumbrae , agai n nothing much there .Covid found in hotel. Not Alfa's fault, but bar closed, no local pubs. Ended up watching tv. Could have done this at home.

Coach from tamworth to tenby was extremely uncomfortable .cramped up, felt like a sardine in a tin not good for a 6hr journey. No ladies toilets in the cliffe norton hotel they were out of order all the duration of the stay. Watery disgusting tomato soup on last night. Short staffed. Showers in rooms were ridiculously small. Excursions were an absolute joke nowt open on arrival and nothing to do but sit and wait to go back to hotel. Good job the weather was fine

We went to the Queens Hotel in Blackpool, we were told the game's room would be open, but it was closed, so was the swimming pool, and so was the hot tub, which was supposed to be included in the hotel deal, which was what we paid for, so really it is going against the trade descriptions act, so it would be good to get some sort of refund for something I have paid for and not used, very disappointed

This company cancelled our self drive holiday to Torquay for the 31st of July 2021 (booked in February) on the 14th of July 2021. When asked why, they said that Alfa had taken the decision to cancel the rooms allocated to self drive customers in favour of allocating these rooms to coach customers. (I presume after the government decision to remove covid restrictions they could fill their coaches after the 19th of July). Be aware that when booking self drive with Alfa you are treated secondary to their coach bookings.

We went on an Alfa tour to the Isle of Wight Our journey back home was a nightmare we waited over an hour and half to board the birmingham bound feeder coach. at the hotel we had been told to check the list of coach numbers, which we did and as the number 7 was against Birmingham we put that onto our luggage.at Tamworth we had to hang about for over an hour and half before coach number 7 was finally shouted .and we could continue our jouney.after a while I received a strange call on my mobile asking me where abouts on our journey we were.on asking the driver we were told we were on the wrong coach and had to get off as it wasn’t going to Birmingham.although the driver had done a head count and didn’t say he had 3extra people on board when we set off.we were somewhere outside Tamworth.we are 80 yearold pensioners. 2 of which are disabled and have difficulty walking we had to catch a local bus to Birmingham where our luggage was going to be taken by coach.but that if we weren’t there they couldn’t wait for us We had no chance getting there on time so the luggage would go to Shrewsbury. when asked how and when we were going to receive our luggage they more or less said that it wasn’t their problem. I think that is disgraceful.we followed the information we were given and now have to find and pay someone to retrieve it we never trust or use this company again

We booked holiday to Skegness for 4 nights. We were not advised that we would be picked up by feeder bus to be taken to Woodhall Services. The driver got lost going from Rotherham to Woodhall. We had a 45 minute wait at Woodhall. We originally set off from Rotherham at 9.45 expecting to have one stop and arrive in Skegness in about 4 hours even though the car journey would take about 2 hours. We finally were told that we couldnt get into the hotel until 15.30. We were taken miles out of our way to delay arrival. We arrived at 15.45 so the outward journey took 6 hours. The hotel was ok but the food was not very good and we had to be down for breakfast at 8 o'clock. The homeward journey was even worse it took just over 7 and a half hours. I know you have to make allowances for traffic but it was ridiculous. I will never travel with this company again and strongly recommend anyone else to get all the full travel details before setting off. Had we known we would have gone by car. We had a lovely few days but the journey spoiled any enjoyment we had as we were frustrated and annoyed by the time we got home.
