It would be better if you didn't have to wait the full time, some people read faster than others and waiting out the timer can get frustrating

Having been a boater for 47 years and my family longer than that, I find the course to be little more than some really basic reminders, some common sense and a big ol' cash grab for the government and other stakeholders. I find some of the questions on the test inconsistent with the studies and many of the questions quite ambiguous. Most grateful my children have had lots of valuable & practical on water training prior to the test but thankful that they have completed the course and need not worry about it any further. Delighted they have this over with and will be legal from this day forth and perhaps a little wiser for having taken the course & test. Regards Michael

The entire module system takes way to long in order to get to the final test. I understand why it is done however I believe there should be a way to by pass the 5 hours worth of video watching. I studied the book for two full days, went to write the test and realized I had to spend a whole bunch of time watching videos I already knew.

I could do the course on my own time, at my own pace at home. Since there is no place for any other feedback I will provide it hear. The thing I dislike the most about this course was that the timer was often longer than the amount of time necessary to complete the video or read it yourself. The video would start for a second time before you could advance to the next slide. Time is valuable and that was a waste of my time. You need to decrease the time limits for your videos.

I did enjoy the fact that there were videos involved in the on line course. The fact that I was never told which answers were incorrect were frustrating. Since I was never aware of which answers were wrong, I continued to think they are right and I am sure these are the ones that I got wrong on the exam. Not knowing which ones they were, I still believe they are correct.

Glad to finally get it but it was very long, at the end my partner David Wyndham and I tried to print the cards and no information showed up on the cards so don't know what to do.

Hi Cindy - thanks for the feedback. Since there are a finite number of test questions and the test is open book and unsupervised - Transport Canada and NASBLA regulate that the answers not be shown. This is one of the check and balances put into place to maintain the integrity of online testing. As boaters too, we understand the feedback and are working with regulators to try and improve the process within the confines of online testing. Thanks for sticking with it and safe boating!

I found the process of going through the modules on line before writing the exam, time consuming and a little tedious. I had already read the book and will keep it on board for reference purposes. Granted, I only got 92% on the exam but would have found it helpful to know what questions I got wrong so that I could review that section. I had problems using my code from the pre purchased exam and had to have a representative from Boat Smart email me a new password to get into the programme. There was also an error in printing off my licence and also had to call to have the temp. licence emailed to me. That being said, both representatives were very help full and corrected the problems within minutes.

I found very informative although very repetitive and LONG. There was some information that didn't come up on that module but was in the quiz and then saw that reference on the next module.

Thanks for taking time to leave feedback Ana. We understand the test can take a while for some students, but the time requirements and quizzes are required by Transport Canada and NASBLA to ensure students of all reading levels are able to fully understand all content. The timed requirements are the same across all course providers, and we find many students prefer the convenience of completing the course from the comfort of home, rather than in a classroom setting. Thanks for sticking with it and safe boating!

Conveniently available online for full duration of course. Did not need to bother someone to be a witness or wait to write exam. Unfortunately, not clear that failing a quiz meant re-doing the module with time limits. Did not find mandatory time spent on modules added value or helped with my learning. Would have liked to proceed at my own pace.

I liked the training videos and found them very helpful! Although I didn't like that you weren't allowed to continue onto the next lesson before the timer was up because a lot of the time I would read the write up underneath the video and be finished before the timer and then I had to sit there. Also if you have to redo a module it is very annoying to have to sit through all of the lessons again if you know what you did wrong.

you should have two licences one for lakes and one for ocean

Son passed the test on his first attempt. Modules took well in excess of the 3 hours stated and purchasing the booklet was useless as you could not challenge the test based on the booklet review.

Self study, online is nice as opposed to doing all at once in a classroom
