“It made me happy because I now have my Boating Licence. But the program lessons need work done on them. There is little direction as to how to proceed with the questions. A question that was asked in a pre test was never answered in the lesson at all for starters so I had to guess at it. Also when doing the lessons it would only allow me to do 1 or 2 lessons a day even if all the answers were correct. The final test shut me out 3 times before I figured out that I had to wait at least 2 to 3 minutes per question before moving on to the next question. Thank You”

Hi Peter - thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. We actually do offer a printed study guide that is a great companion for the online course. It is also a great reference to keep on the boat, once you've passed the course. You can purchase it during registration, online or at your local Canadian Tire store.

“The quizzes were harder then the final test. Very frustrated to restart the entire quiz if you didn't get 80%. It took me a total of 5 hours to complete this boating test! On another note, very happy to be getting my card!”

“Several sections did not have the timer sync'd with how long it took to do it. would have to wait for 30 sec in some cases to proceed. Many animations did not appear though one thought there was one there. Since this is not a new program, one would think it would have been edited better.”

“I found the course quite useful as I have been away from boating for some time. I am however disappointed that the quizzes are not reviewed in some way to see where mistakes are made. This also applies to the end test.”

Hi John - thanks for the feedback. Since there are a finite number of test questions and the test is open book and unsupervised - Transport Canada and NASBLA regulate that the answers not be shown. This is one of the check and balances put into place to maintain the integrity of online testing. As boaters too, we understand the feedback and are working with regulators to try and improve the process within the confines of online testing. Thanks for sticking with it and safe boating!

“It was a good course. The only problem I had was. I had signed up in Aug of 2017 for 2 licences. When I waited until Jan 2018 to do the course. I could not get into my account so I paid for one more licence. I passed and the course is good. Is there anyway I can get my 79$ back on the first course I paid for. I sent emails and got no response when I said I could not get into my account the order # was 14029 . I was going to pay for my granddaughter to do course. It was for email gladhappy5@gmail.com”

“got it done - This was painfully long. We should be able to advance through the course if the section is known... in other words we should be able to challenge each section quiz, or at least forward screens instead of waiting. Some screens actually went twice because of the timer. In any event, sitting for 5 hours was not anticipated and much of the course load is not about boating, rather about safety. I have a ton of courses already in safety and did not feel the need to sit through these sections. in any event, those are my comments! thanks”

Thanks for taking time to leave feedback David. We understand the test can take a while for some students, but the time requirements and quizzes are required by Transport Canada and NASBLA to ensure students of all reading levels are able to fully understand all content. The timed requirements are the same across all course providers, and we find many students prefer the convenience of completing the course from the comfort of home, rather than in a classroom setting. “Boat Smart book is good. I was not aware that the on line completion of modules was mandatory. I studied the book throughly, completed all the modules and tests but then wasn’t allowed th write the test. Forced to spend close to 4 hours going through everything a second time. Wasted a lot of time as a result! Very frustrating!”

“Could be better if you could review what questions you got wrong after a quiz. This way it allows you to find out what your doing wrong and no make the same mistake again”
