My experience with British Gas has been extremely disappointing. For an entire year, I faced difficulties in setting up a direct debit. Each time I called, I was assured that everything was in order and that there was no need for concern, yet nothing was resolved. Despite raising my issues, my emails were ignored, and I received misleading information regarding my outstanding bills. Unbeknownst to me, my case was handed over to a debt collector. I subsequently reached out to the head of customer service and the CEO, but neither responded. This level of unprofessionalism and poor customer service has led me to plan my departure from British Gas as soon as possible

I moved house and closed my British Gas account. Suddenly the last bill for one month is higher than it has been for every three month period while I lived there. It is pretty clear they punish you for leaving and charge whatever they want. I regret paying my gas bill because now they have done the same with electricity. I paid one exorbitant bill so they now know I'm a mug and can charge me whatever they want for the other.

Horrible experience with British gas, lying, scamming, over charging, especially when home owner is mentally vulnerable Had tried to set up direct debit multiple times, all failing which then resulted in an extra charge every month of an excess £60 When I complained they said it's the banks fault. Which it can't be because I had tried 2 cards from two different banks

They've obviously off shored their customer service and quite frankly it's abysmal, takes forever for them to do anything, constantly told to wait a few minutes which ends up as 20. Neen a rebrand to Far East Gas, don't use them save yourself a lot of hassle

Been a british gas customer for 2 years and had nothing but issues. Incorrect charges, taking money that has already been paid, sending bailiffs for an account that is 2k in credit. Got an open complaint with them that is rarely if ever updated. Ended up raising it with the ombudsman

Had new gas smart meter installed 20th Feb 25 and still not transmitting reads to BG or in house monitor- customer service waste of time!!!

I had the most awful experience with British Gas. I am entitled to the warm home discount and they bluntly refused to pay it to me!! I approached DWP and they explained that British Gas was the only provider that was avoiding to pay it and making it so difficult for people to get their payment credited onto their account!!!! After 6 hours on the phone to them they finally acknowledged that they had “made a mistake” . Please please check if you have received your payment as they are trying not to pay it!!!!!! In law this is fraud and it is happening with them to a very big scale!!! Persevere to get your rights!!!

Appalling company. Keep sending letters saying we owe them money for a call out from 6 months ago, yet their engineer said there would be nothing to pay. Absolute triers.

If i could give 0 stars I would. WORST company I have ever experienced! Take more money out of account than agreed. Admitted they owe me over £1000 yet keep saying they will pay it back and don't. 72 hours to wait for a call from Management yet they never do. DO NOT GO NEAR!! I have now spent well over 3 hours of my time across 5 phone calls to call centres where no one knows anything.

I’ve honestly had the worst experience with British Gas this year. They’ve constantly sent me multiple incorrect bills. When I finally decided to leave them they sent me a final bill - which I paid. Then ANOTHER final bill with completely random charges. I submitted an official complaint and still haven’t received a response. I’ll never use them again. Currently with E.ON and it is so much better.

BG need to sort out their IT systems. I have tried and tried to submit a domestic meter reading on line. My meter has five digits, the online BG system only allows for a four digit input. When trying to speak to someone directly, the system is almost unusable. It is a lamentable system that just does not work. Why can’t they simplify just being able to speak to a competent person?

What a complete, utter shambles. Spent so long being put back and forth to people who don’t know what they are doing, who were incredibly difficult to understand amongst a background of noise. I have spent nearly all day trying to sort a simple query, and no closer. Never, ever go to BRITISH GAS.

Oh dear God..ide put them on a par with virgin media. Truly dreadful. Customer service is unsatisfactory,sent out on the wrong contract for a 16 month deal whice was totally incorrect. So now I've raised a formal complaint with bg. Going to switch to another supplier. Enough is enough total joke of a company.
