“Complaint Review — Incorrect CCJ Application by Checkatrade and Their Solicitors During Company Liquidation I am extremely disappointed with the way Checkatrade and their solicitors have dealt with my case, particularly their decision to apply a County Court Judgment (CCJ) incorrectly at a time when I was liquidating my company. This action was not only unfair but also completely disregarded the legal process I was following in liquidating the business. When I entered liquidation, all financial matters should be dealt with by the liquidator in compliance with insolvency legislation. Instead, Checkatrade, alongside their solicitors, proceeded to pursue a CCJ directly against me, disregarding both the liquidator’s role and the appropriate legal framework. This resulted in significant stress, additional financial complications, and a potential stain on my financial record — all due to their failure to follow proper procedure. This incident shows a lack of diligence, understanding, and fairness on their part, causing unnecessary distress during a difficult time for me and my business. It feels as though they chose to ignore the correct process in a rush to collect a debt, which was both unlawful and unfair.”

“The advert says that there are reduced prices for pensioners, yet when I came to pay {£224 for 35 minutes work!} I was informed that it was not possible to give me a discount because I didn't tell them I was a pensioner when I originally asked for help. Both the exorbitant price and their misleading advert is disgraceful”

“Checkatrade offered a free upgrade when I called to close my account, on the grounds they were to call before my renewal to see how things were improving however I heard nothing I still had minimum leads that didn’t even cover the membership then renewed without checking in. I’m now stuck in a membership for another 12 months. Over all Checkatrade used to be amazing and now they’ve over populated the site no matter how great your reviews and ratings they can only offer minimum leads “ to be fair”. Meaning newcomers get the same amount of work as you who had been there for 6+ years”

“As a business it is simply not what it once was... It was about building your reputation and in getting good customer feedback - you good rep would then help people find you based on their location and in the services that you provide. Now Checkatrade is a money-making machine where they will sign up as many businesses as poss to make a load of money but as a business you just don't get seem even if you have the best reputation in what you do...”

“Can be useful to find contractors but they have a terrible complaints process. I used a contractor, A S Force Construction that didnt finish the job completely (re-plastering wall paper) and then ceased all contact with me without providing an invoice, even though I asked several times, they just ignored my calls and messages. I informed check a trade, left a review for this company and their "investigation" amounted to speaking to the company, who lied that they've never heard of me. So check a trade took their word for it, deleted my review and closed the case as concluded, without doing any proper investigating.”
