Suddenly realised my car insurance ran out in two days. Tried to contact GA as I had had no renewal note from them. The number on the policy was answered by an abrupt 'this number no longer in use', no alternative given. Tried four other phone numbers I found by wading through policy, all told me 'this number is for claims only'. I gave up and went elsewhere, absolute rubbish company do not even warrant one star. Do they even bother to read the reviews I wonder?

We cant get hold of anyone and need to change car details that are not found on the site. Customer services numbers cut off or are no longer in use and website useless if you havce supplementary questions. God knows what would happen if I had to make a claim!

Am changing cars 27/10/16 however having difficulty changing to the car on the policy due to an error on their end. The date I want the changes to become effective is not letting me have that date. Now I'm waiting on an email from the Customer services team which really is not helpful at all. Because I need an answer now but because of their crap services I am F***ed. So no don't join this company because if you ever have a problem well you are going to be waiting for a while!!!

From the moment I had my accident. They sent the recovery car to the wrong place. The left my car outside the repairs garage without informing them. Meaning I got a call from the garage asking why my car was outside. Didn't take correct details of my claim. Worst experience.

Complete Lack of communication leading to frustration and anger at the incompetence of the system used by general accident .......... Would never recommend or use again

Customer service is very poor , the company advertise to be a "do it yourself" insurance company , however fail to meet the needs to change my policy over email . I was refused to change my car however the online website recommendations would suggest that I could change my car without any cost . Felt that this insurance company wasn't professional and seemed lazy and poor quality throughout the 10 months I was with them . Would strongly advice people not to use this company .

What went wrong? Where do I start?? Ok the year we had our 'fun car' insured with them was good no hassle. But then went massively down hill!! I received an email saying I owed them £706.58 so myself and my partner were like umm WHAT? Apparently they sent me an email saying there were going to auto renew our policy. But I did not recive this email. Apparently according to them I did and I read it. The guy on the phone was nice and helpful but via email was shocking. Wanting proof that the car had been SORN. TBH it's upto us what we do with the car or if we choose to insure it elsewhere. How nosey. And as soon as I started sticking up for myself they tried charging me. Baring in mind no money had been taken by them so no refund was needed. Was just hassle for days on end. So I searched on the Internet. You do not legally have to give any proof to any insurance company showing if the car was SORN/ Insured elsewhere. I am totally disgusted with the customer service provided. Nothing was strIght forward never answered my question as to why they need to know. Will NOT be using again or referring a friend to them!! AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!

I emailed customer services to ask about a modification on my car, they told me to put it under a section in my policy, so went over to my policy and added it to my insurance and then it came up saying they can't cover me with this modifications. This has happened several times.

Bad service from start to finish. Never call back when they say they will. No hurry to settle claim and when they do and you finally get your money they continue to take money from your account for a car that they have written off and you no longer own. Never go with this company it was a nightmare from start to finish.

I was insured with GA but my car broke and I bought a new one. Unfortunately I couldn't change the car online (gave me vague message that it is not possible) and they have no phone support for current customers. Once I managed to have somebody to call me back after emailing it occurred that they cannot insure my car because it was classified as sports car( it is 1.4 Vauxhall tigra). So basically they forced me to cancel my policy on the broken car, needed to pay exit fee of 54 pounds and lost 6 months of no claim just because they didn't have the product for my car. Their system is ridiculous. I went with direct line.

Very simple thing - before going ahead to buy their policy, called the company to check in which form they accept proof of no claim discount. Well, they would not accept an official letter of "Motor proposal confirmation" sent by my previous insure Sainsbury's Bank. The letter included all necessary details with no claim bonus clearly stated. They said that "Motor proposal confirmation" is not a right document. Good, I stay away from this company! Imagine through what nonsense you would have to go if you need to make a claim!

Awful. If you need to call them or ask a question after 35 days into your policy you can't! I changed my policy online and checked the insurance database to see if I was definitely insured. It said I wasn't (24 hours later). I was picking my new car up but couldn't phone anyone at GA to ask if there was a problem! You can email and get a response in 24 hrs. Just not fit for purpose when you need an answer straight away!!

I find it odd that it costs £53 to cancel a policy when it has only one month to the expiry date. Why bother to cancel at all.

My son has received a letter staring he is not insured, despite having paid for this. He now finds he will be charged £35 to discuss whether he is covered or not. Even local police office said this is shamefull. We have tried every avenue to contact someone and got nowhere. Would not recomend General Acccident. Mrs L Boyd.

I had been insured with general accident for just over a year, I purchased a new vehicle and informed general accident about the change and they gave me the new premium quote of £120 a month (I was 19) which seemed fair so I continued the policy. I've now received an email (5months later) explaining that they made a mistake in the quote and actually the premiums should be 210 a month and that I hadn't been insured for the previous 5 months. I argued that I should not have to pay the extra as I agreed to the quote they gave me and it was their mistake, I was told directly 'if you're not happy with the quote, leave us'. They didn't even apologise for the mistake, leaving me out of pocket and more scarily, If I would have had to claim in the time, I wouldn't have had any insurance. Please don't use this company!!
