Green Motion - looks cheap but DON'T BOTHER UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SCAMMED I rented a car for 24 hours from Green Motion via carrentals.com, apparently a "meet and greet" service from Euston rail station. It transpired that no "meet and greet" was available so I had to leave my passengers and luggage at Euston while I trekked 2.5 miles to Green Motion's office in a hotel on Edgware Road, at my own expense (though to be fair, carrentals.com have refunded that cost to me). Staff were abrupt, argumentative, and other customers were clearly unhappy and even in tears while I was there. Overall the worst car rental I have ever experienced in 30 years: 1. Due to the misleading location, the car pickup took 90 minutes before I had collected my passengers from Euston and we got on our way, we hit the evening peak traffic, missed our event and our evening out was totally ruined. 2. I inspected the car in a dim hotel underground parking garage. I took photos all round (though it was so dark many were blurred) and accepted the condition report that 3 alloy wheels had slight damage on them. On parking at Euston just 2.5 miles away one of my passengers looked all round the car and spotted damage on all four wheels so we took a photo of the fourth damaged wheel. No problem, I thought, Green Motion apparently allows you to report any un-spotted damage by 10am the following morning so I sent the details to their central London email address at 6.30am the following morning. On returning the car I said what we had found, and first they claimed not to have had the email, then on acknowledging they had, told me to "stop lying" in front of the other customers and informed me they would charge me £160 for the damaged wheel - a tiny scuff on the rim. I took this up with the Green Motion central office but they have refused to refund the money which they immediately took from my debit card. So, I am £160 out of pocket as the victim of a classic car hire scam in which it was clear all four wheels were scuffed from the outset. How many times can they pull off this stunt, I wonder, before Trading Standards or the Police have enough evidence to bring them to court? 3. The car was not properly cleaned, on tipping the seats we found a half-empty plastic bottle and other debris. DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY - IT WILL COST YOU FAR MORE IN THE LONG RUN. I READ OTHER REVIEWS BUT THOUGHT I HAD TAKEN ALL THE RIGHT STEPS TO PROTECT MYSELF. AND I STILL GOT SCAMMED.

I'd give zero if there was. I had hired a vehicle from Green Motion. On the 4th of October 2017 I was involved in a road traffic accident which was not my fault where I was hit from the side by a vehicle travelling from the side road as I was on the main road. They wanted me £995 for excess fee and I paid. I was told that will be refunded if it wasn't my fault. They didn't give me any update for two years. After more than two years' they said the company I rented was their franchisee and they are not working for them anymore. So, they didn't accept the responsibility and make refund

1st Issue - Had to wait over 3 hours to get a car I reserved over 2 weeks to the time. That made me miss scheduled business meetings that I flew in all the way from Canada for.   2nd Issue - After waiting 3 hours, I was given a Citroen C3 which is way lower than the SUV I reserved and paid for and no sort of refund was given.  3rd Issue - I was given a very dirty car which I believe is as a result of them collecting it from a return and handling it over straight to me without any form of cleaning or maintenance. Run away whenever you hear Green motion..... They treat people like animals and don't care about human feelings.

WORST HIRE CAR COMPANY EVER. There was an air traffic control strike at Bristol airport so nearly all flights had been affected & delayed during the day. We had booked our car to pick it up between 8 & 9pm but unfortunately did not land until 10pm. We phoned the office on our arrival at 10pm which was just at the end of our 2 hour collection window, however my call went straight to voicemail. It is a 15 minute walk to their office, however when we arrived there we discovered that the office had shut at 9pm. We had not been told how early they shut. They were completely uncontactable so we were left stranded after a long journey. We needed to get to our destination in Taunton an hour's drive away and had no car! There is another small office next to the green motion office that is open 24 hours and the man there had paperwork and car keys for another green motion client who was late but unfortunately not ours. At midnight we managed to catch a bus to Taunton and then took a taxi to get to our destination. We finally arrived at 1.30am! The next morning we contacted the branch and the green motion customer services only to be told that they had cancelled our booking as we were a no show despite all flights into Bristol being delayed that day. They had left the office at 9pm! their normally closing time apparently and were not responsible for our flight arriving late. It was our responsibility to phone them from Spain to tell them our flight was delayed. I explained that we still needed a car and that we had paid for a week, however we were told that they did not have a car for us and probably wouldn't but would not be giving us a refund either. We were really shocked that we had paid €113 and had no car, no real prospect of one and no refund. We waited for the branch to contact us to advise us if they had a car that we could have but heard nothing. They barely even apologised and obviously couldn't care less about leaving us in the lurch. We thought that after speaking to customer service we would be offered another car from the branch but they did absolutely nothing to ensure that that actually happened. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AS THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON EXISTENT. THEY ARE READING FROM A STANDARD SCRIPT AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO LEEWAY! COMPUTER SAYS NO! We ended up having to hire another car from AVIS who were a breath of fresh air after our TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH GREEN MOTION. How GREEN MOTION are still in business I do not know, don't read the GOOGLE REVIEWS as they do not reflect the poor reviews on all other sites!!!! READ THE ARTICLE ABOUT THEM ON THE GUARDIAN Also read the reviews on other review sites before you use this company. 1.1 IS THEIR OVERALL SCORE, I CAN HARDLY SAY I AM SURPRISED We will never use them again and strongly reccommend that you don't either!

Here is the terrible experience we had. Rented a small car for a weekend out of the warsaw airport. Car was ok, as was the original price. We didn’t take any insurance. We quickly cleaned the car before driving back to give it back, there were no damages, what so ever. We returned it, but as it was dark, they told us they will only check the car the following day… We didn’t really have the choice. But again, we didn’t encounter anything that could have damaged the car. Result: a couple of days later, we received a report showing 2 barely visible scratches and asking us to pay 300€. Well, the amount was simply deduced of the credit card blocked amount… So, a couple of things: - How the heck did this damage suddenly appear?!?! - You could see the video of these damages, and frankly, a good polish would have made the scratches vanish - 300€?!?! For nearly nonexistent scratches ? I call this extortion. Maybe it’s the game. We didn’t take the insurance, so they have to earn their money somehow, but to me, this is authorized theft. Period. After a couple of exchanges via email, they firmly refused any gesture to be done. So indeed I could just be some frustrated guy spilling poison, but I don’t think so. It seems I’m not the only one with this kind of experience…I can't add any link, but google "The Guardian Green Motion" ! In a nutshell, avoid green motion !

Yes, I got fleeced at the very same Heathrow office by some smarmy salesman after travelling for 25 hours from Australia. I arrived at the Green Motion office at 7pm, totally f****d. I was up-sold insurance and the really annoying thing was I knew at the time I was being fleeced (£300 for 20 days hire) but I was so dog tied and had to be in Scotland the next day , so I didn’t argue . Well actually I did, but then came the hard sell- the shyster rep told me how expensive a windscreen was for that particular vehicle (Peugeot 208), more expensive than the extra insurance. Still not convinced, I argued a bit more – then out came the real sting. When you arrive at the office the staff are chatty, asking about your flight details, times etc, so innocently you tell them (mine was 10am). Then, armed with the info, the rep explains that their office does not open until 6am, so if you don’t take out their extra cover - and on return the yard crew inspect the vehicle and find any scratches, bumps, rips etc, the paperwork can take a long time, sometimes 2 hours, which of course meant I stood a real good chance of missing my flight. It’s true what they say – ‘if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is’. NEVER AGAIN!

TOTAL SCAM! I travelled from Hong Kong to UK Heathrow. For the first time I reserved a car at Green Motion near Heathrow. Many things they had pledged did not go through. Upon returning the car to the firm, the vehicle inspector tried hard to get rid of me when I stayed behind him to observe how he inspected the car. It took only a few seconds, during which I was not observing, for him to "find" a scratch which I was sure it had not been there before. Police should investigate for possible fraud. It is a pity that UK Police considered this kind of complaints as contractual disputes and ignored victims.

This company is absolutely awful with extremely poor customer service!! Our flight was delayed and when we finally managed to get to the car hire office it had already closed at 9pm which was not originally stated. Upon ringing the company the next day after having to make our own way to our final destination arriving at 2am we were told we should have contacted GREEN MOTION even though there’s no way we could of due to being in the air! Absolutely ridiculous company and they did not even bother to offer us any solutions or another hire car so they have lost out on business there. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY WILL SCAM YOU AND MESS YOU AROUND! DO NOT BE TEMPTED BY THEIR CHEAPER RATES AS THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE HASSLE OR STRESS! YOU WILL ONLY BE DISAPPOINTED!

Things that went wrong:- Car collected with absolutely zero fuel Booking part processed and then demanded to go away to get my Passport despite presenting with UK photo ID driving licence for UK rental Unpleasant and intimidating staff Signature demanded without producing T&Cs, took me 3 and half weeks to get full T&Cs. The T&Cs for my booking was both Got RentalCars and GreenMotion, they differ and partly contradict each other Different treatment applied on check-out to check-in, on check-out car had usual road dirt from gravel car park area (in my case whilst raining), not advised that absolutely every underlying scuff, mark or imperfection is chargeable on a pre-made up matrix of costs (no display of this information anywhere). No mention of photographs by 10.00am the next day that I have seen mentioned on other comments. On check-in a special handheld bright light is applied, vigorously shone over the car, when you step back into the office a list of imperfections are noted against your booking T&Cs confirm that the hire charge does not include any kind of wear & tear My repair bill, stopped from my credit card is £637.36 for a scuff to a wing mirror and a barely seen bodywork scuff A further 3 weeks of emails to actually receive information on what the £637.36 costs were for Wrong size car supplied Things that went right: The initial rental cost was competitive against others (overall cost is about double) The car ran without breakdown or incident

Unfortunately my experience with Holiday Autos site is very bad. Firstly I rented a car from Holiday Autos site that provided Green Motion’s company as local supplier in Gdansk in Poland. When we arrived to Gdandsk in 27-12-2019 we surprised at Green Motion had no office in Gdansk airport. So we phoned them then one of the employees came after 20 minutes to pick us from the airport to their office location. There we agreed on that he would meet us on our departure day, 1-1-2020, before our flight at the same place to pick us again to the airport, the same way we came from the airport. We did exactly what we agreed on together. We waited beside the office 45 minutes, which was locked with t.v on. No answer, more than 7 calls on his phone numbers that say 24/7 active lines and I sent more than 2 messages. Then we had to take the decision to head off to the airport and parked the car in airport parking. 6 hours after, the employee called us to know location of the car without apologizing even. After 2 hours Green Motion company sent email to me saying at they charged me 73,80 EUR as penalty for at the vehicle has not been left in the designated place. At the same time, Amount of 74 EUR was also deducted from my credit card balance av. I tried to contact them but they didn’t answer. Then I reported a complaint (PL485184440, case: 01341108) to Holiday Autos site which after one and half month said at they can’t do anything! Now I will report my bank for at I have all documents that support my case.

I was scammed. Charged £936 for a near invisible scratch that was obviously there when I picked up the car. (It was the only spot the man cleaned when I returned the car, he knew it was there)

A simple £2.50 fine for missing a road toll was issued to me. I paid it directly to the authority and sent the receipt to Green motion. They then charged me $166 AUD (£85) for the administration. Insane, and ruined holiday memories!

Similar Experience today (Jan. 31, 20200 as you per the "Insurance Scam" Trap, this one with Green Motion's Mnchstr Airport) This variation = Misleading wording of license requirements and/or individual staff practices appear to be designed to dupe customers into purchasing comprehensive insurance. Process = post very cheap pre-paid rates online to get customers' money in advance (225 GBP for 28 days). When customer shows up to pick up vehicle, Green Motion states that they cannot rent you the vehicle even when your non-UK license is valid, putting the customer at risk of (a) losing their pre-payment = too late to cancel, and (b) being stuck without a vehicle. Then Green Motion staff report to the customer that they'll see if they can work something out. That's when Green Motion staff say that they can only rent you the vehicle if you purchase comprehensive insurance (500 GBP). Classic bait & switch = 225 GBP becomes 725 GBP. If customer does not take the bait (i.e., does not purchase comprehensive insurance), then Green Motion will not issue the pre-paid vehicle to the customer & customer loses the prepayment and has no vehicle. Green Motion's own written policy states that "All drivers must have held their driving license for at least 2 years." I have held my driving license for over 40 years. The Manchester Green Mountain staff operated, in my case, in a manner NOT consistent with the wording of the aforementioned official policy. The Manchester Green Motion staff's practice is more clearly captured by the following: "If a non-UK driver presents a valid license printed in English that has an initial issue or renewal date that is less than two years old from the date of vehicle hire, we will (a) not honor the pre-paid booking but still charge the customer, then (b) inform the customer that they can only get the vehicle by paying - in addition to the original pre-paid amount - for full comprehensive insurance." Deceptive wording and practice = no conducive to good business practice/ethics. Moreover, the policy - even if written clearly - fails to account for common sense realities, including the fact that drivers have to RENEW their licenses periodically. I will be seeking reimbursement for my prepaid rental, at a minimum, and querying Green Motion about their role and responsibility for additional costs I incurred as a result of their actions. And, no, I did not take the bait. In addition to not obtaining my pre-paid rental today, I have cancelled three subsequent bookings, each of which was also for 28 days, as I cannot trust that Green Motion Manchester will honor pre-paid bookings. In 40+ years of hiring vehicles in the UK and other countries, I have never experienced this outcome. Moreover, in most countries, attempts to dupe customers into purchasing comprehensive insurance coverage are not consistent with law or consumer protection regulations.
