Fiat 500 - Black (EU23NNH) , miraculously found to have damage on the driver side door on return, £950!! to "repair" this door and damage which cannot be seen by the naked eye. They use this fancy lined paper and reflection to detect a slight wave in the bodywork. SCAM

Green Motion Car Rental Where do I start? Three of us, my daughter and grand-daughter aged 75 53 and 23 had reserved a Honda SUV from Australia some months prior, to be picked up, am 28th December 2023, Glasgow airport depot. Upon our arrival there was mayhem in the office and to cut the often confusing hire agreement and not being sure that we had 3rd party damage insurance on our travel insurance took the damage limitation (400 UK pounds). Seriously that doubled the hire charge! As no SUV was available, we took a UPGADE to a Mercedes Vito Van, sorry minibus, (but it had been delivered from www.estarttruckandvan.co.uk ) This was no upgrade. The vehicle was turned around with quite a lot of damage most significant was the near side mirror, (all the corners had been knocked off) see photo and note that the vehicle is wet and it was raining, this is significant later in the complaint. It was obviously overdue for a service as the following suggests. AdBlue, The warning on the dashboard was a picture of a fuel bouser with “Ad Blue Refill AdBlue See Owner’s Manual” We only thought it was the type of fuel to be used, coming from Australia it was not used in any of our diesel passenger vehicles, (I now know only reserved to European HGV’s.) We simply did not know what AdBlue was had never heard of it and it was not in the briefing of the vehicle. We assumed, wrongly that the vehicle was ‘in service’ it clearly was not! Still being turned around and still being washed. Certainly not fully cleaned nor serviced, the service manual states that AdBlue is not normally needed between services.. By googling we found out that the vehicle would cease to operate therefore we did put in 20 pounds worth of the said additive on 02.01.2024, 10;13am. Night Delivery 41.67pounds, we did in fact pick up and return the vehicle well within working hours, upon our dispute of this charge the answer was. “we can confirm the ‘night fee’ as you collected from Glasgow and returned to Waverly”. Why were we not told of this charge and why was this not listed as a fee for what it was (remote return)? Claim for a refund refused. Please bear with me because this will be drawn out. We first noticed a growing crack in the windscreen on the morning of the 6th January when the sun was on the windscreen, under close inspection an impact chip could be seen in the black part of the windscreen just below the VIN number, bottom right corner, I might add that this was near impossible to see under normal light. Note in the picture, no crack can be seen in the black area. Coming from country South Australia and having had four damaged windscreens to deal with in 57 years of driving and I remember each one very well indeed, I can categorically say that we did NOT have any screen strikes at all. Over the period of the hire the crack did grow considerably and we reported it, (they did not as their emails suggest “found” it) with our protest that it was probably pre-existing. Upon picking the vehicle up in Glasgow, we three, witnessed a staff member photographing the vehicle, in fact from the front. Knowing where to look and what to look for, we requested that those photos be sent to us for perusal, the answer we received was: “Our branches only take photos of damages when a vehicle returns with new damage. We do not take photos of the vehicle before it goes on rent.” That being a blatant lie as three of us were witnesses. A second email sent suggesting there were photos taken, received curt reply, “There are no photo’s your signed damage report attached”. Reading reviews there is more than the suggestion that commission is paid for finding damage, I now realise that the photos were destined for the Waverly branch so that the surreptitious damage could be easily found, pity about the crack growing. Loosing commission because the windscreen would have to be replaced and not rehired. OK so we did wear that damage although certainly not ours and not happy, the cost being 1,060.50 but as we reduced our liability to 400 we wore that cost plus a further 75pound admin fee?? Limited liability of 400 turns out to be 475? In the picture below, under intense lighting the whole crack can be seen clearly. Windscreen saga continues, please stay with this……Being in a small town related to the motor industry I did enquire as to the replacement cost of a Vito windscreen. Auto Guru in Australia quote between $600 & $1,000 for a complete windscreen refit. Auto Glass Europe is 439 Euro and UK car glass is 457 pounds. This is a far cry from the 1,060pounds quoted by Green Motion. Whilst at the windscreen repairer I did show the photo of the originating impact area. The explanation that I got was astounding to say the least. An employee, 27 years in auto glass replacement and repair, stated that the impact on the Vito screen was not consistent with a stone strike. The symmetric damage with fourteen radiating cracks, all of similar length, other than the two that grew, are consistent with vandalism, being struck with a very sharp object impacting at exactly 90 degrees, possibly a spring-loaded centre punch. Don’t leave me here, read on, but in my mind, that explanation is damning! https://amp.theguardian.com/money/2018/jun/09/green-motion-car spring -hire-bills In this Guardian article, near the end, there is a identical claim as ours, “ When Heather Dryden and friends” Their story is the same, as is the damage! In an area impossible to see under normal light let alone low light, (Bottom right corner within the black part of the glass near the VIN) what’s the chances? Our car was wet and raining as was theirs, ensuring that rain drops certainly covered the damage when picked up. Both cars were rented from the Glasgow franchise. One wonders if in our case the crack had not grown on our vehicle would the Green Motion employees miraculously have found the impact damage and what would the cost have been? Green Motion seem to have a lot of problems with windscreens! I cannot believe that this is a coincidence considering the reviews. Upon returning the vehicle to Waverley Edinburgh the receipt for AdBlue was scanned, and pinned to our damage report paperwork. We were reassured that the cost would be refunded however later, Green Motion said there is no record of a receipt. Hence that claim is disallowed. We did score one though, on reading reviews and seeing that large amounts of money had been taken out of customers card’s for no reason, my daughter put a stop on international transactions, which was fortunate as there was a “bus-lane infringement” possibly legitimate, emailed to us on the 3rd February and we did notify Green Motion that we would deal with Aberdeen Council directly. No further correspondence has been received from Aberdeen or Green Motion. In that matter. On the 9th of February however, the day that we received a email stating that none of our claims were to be refunded, our bank notified of an attempt to deduct some $131 from that card, no explanation, no correspondence, no reason! Obligatory administration fee for denying claim? As Deren Hinch would say here in Oz Shame Green Motion Shame SHAME! As a conclusion to this, Budget was a breath of fresh air to deal with in the second half of our holiday. Car had damage, didn’t matter, “everyone scuffs wheels in the UK and drags cases over rear bumper!” Better car at HALF THE PRICE! Absolutely no hassles

Was charged above £1000 for a scratch underneath the car front bumper. When I took the car never went underneath the car to check this. The car is the same when I took pictures before going out and that of coming back but the agent who helped me quickly went for that underneath the bumper scratch and said it was me. He acted as if he knew where the scratch was. I check how much it would cost to repair it but Greenmotion hasn't said anything until now. Disappointed EasyJet shouldn't direct it's customers for these people car hire.

I am sharing the mail that I send to Green Emoction Dear Greenemoction, I am writing to inform you that I have been a victim of fraud regarding the aforementioned booking. The company that provided me with the car rental services charged me 1017 euros without my consent. I immediately notified my bank to prevent the payment and have also reported the incident to the relevant authorities for further action. To provide some context, the car broke down just 6 kilometers away from their office upon my return. Contacting them via WhatsApp, I went to their place without inspecting the damage. They demanded a payment of 3000 euros and tried to coerce me into signing a promissory note at their office. Feeling threatened, I disembarked from their vehicle and took a taxi. Unfortunately, due to the time wasted, I missed my flight. As a result, I had to purchase another flight ticket and find accommodation, all of which can be verified as necessary expenses. I kindly request your assistance in helping me recover the stolen amount of 1017 euros from my credit card and seeking reimbursement for the expenses incurred before considering legal action. Any help you can provide in resolving this matter promptly would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your cooperation. Yours sincerely, Ibrahim yilmaz

They are cheap but it's not worth it. They will try every trick in the book to get you to pay £350 extra when you go to rent the car. I'm sure the reps are on commission for the extra fees. The service is awful and it is miles away from the airport. I ended up walking away and getting the train. It is not worth dealing with them when you know they have taken a huge deposit and are clawing to get into it.

Scammers. Charged me for damage that did not exist (I left the car at 4am at Edinburgh Airport) and will not send any photos of the alleged damage to substantiate their claim. Never again, I'd rather walk.

Scam company! Have rented prestige/ high end motors for 10-15 years and made a mistake using green motion based on price! The worker who apparently checked me out didn’t show me the car like every other company but made me sign boxes saying he checked it already and can look after if there’s a problem. I noticed several dinks on the body work so took photos and showed him which he said didn’t matter. On returning the car a week later, the same assistant walked immediately to the offside rear wheel and said I have kerbed the wheel. I’ve hired prestige cars and always been charged if damages are done so am well aware of looking after cars. I tried explaining this is an old scratch well over a week and when I showed other damage was told don’t worry. He knew there was a mark on the wheel and unless I had taken a picture the same time I took the car, I was liable. Clearly he gets commission on damage claimed back as he got angry when I asked this. Have tried explaining this to green motion customer service who have the same attitude that it must be me because I signed damage was not there and have not seen it. If I had damaged the wheel I would of been more than happy to pay for it and the price, but know this is an old mark and just fobbed of as they have legal grounds based on me signing stuff pushed in front of me and not explained. Will speak to my solicitor to see my next steps. Make sure you examine the car every inch as they will find a hidden mark you didn’t see the second you bring it back! Got charged £230 extra and still awaiting my deposit. I’ve been punished for not checking their damaged car over enough and having pictures of every mark.

POOR AFTER CARE SERVICE LEAVING ME OUT OF POCKET. It's a shame I have to write this review, since I managed to rent a good electric car at a really good price - despite teething problems at the rental desk which I won't go into here as they aren't my real gripe. Needless to say, expect a hard sell for extra insurance etc when collecting (and do make sure you take your physical credit card with more than 3 months left before it expires if you want to actually be able to take a car etc...) BUT, my real issue is the lack of contact from the PCN department. I received a PCN from TFL for a congestion charge violation. Green Motion paid the £90 on my behalf, then charged me accordingly plus the £68 unrefundable admin charge. fair enough - I was aware this was a risk if I was unlucky enough to get a PCN. However, I challenged the PCN due to the fact in was an obvious error with the reg. TFL took a few days to let me know they had overturned the PCN and that the refund would be sent back to the original payee. Since this has happened, I have contacted Green Motions dedicated PCN address THREE times requesting when and how I can claim my £90 PCN refund, and have not had a single response - not even an acknowledgement that they have received my message. I don't know what else to do except leave a poor review in the hope it might kick them into action. It's a shame they don't seem to have the same sense of urgency they have when they demand I pay them within 3 days!

Scam artists!! I want to warn others about my ordeal with Green Motion. They operate like scam artists, conveniently forgetting to return deposits and letting toll penalties spiral out of control.

Do not use this car rental agency. They gave us a smaller car than we had reserved which created problems on our journey. They charged me twice for a deposit. I made a £50 deposit when picking up the car. When I returned it with less than a full tank I told them to take the fuel balance out of the deposit. The gas charge was £41. They charged me another £50 and insisted that balance of £9 was a "service charge". I pushed hard to correct this situation, but gave up due to pressure to make the plane departure. Believe this and other negative reviews! Save yourself heartache and money!!!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are refusing to return our $3000 deposit until we pay an additional $800! We had to return our rental to Heathrow Green Motion at the last minute, when we inquired, he called "a guy" - we couldn't speak to him though. We were assured that we could leave the car and it would be just "a few dollars a mile" to have them return the car the 40 miles to the Stanstead Green Motion. Ok, we should have gotten it in writing. They are now charging us $800 for abandonment! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Date: 11/21/23

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IT IS A SCAM! They lure you in with a great price but ask for over £1000 deposit for a 2 day rental and if you don't want to pay that they will charge you an extra £25 on top of your agreed price to lower the deposit amount. They will look for anyway they can to penalise and squeeze more money out of you including charge and obscene amount for every mile over the 100 mile a day limit. To cap it all the staff are incredible rude, unprofessional and have little regard for customer service, doing little more than compounding the micky mouse operation this is. This was meant to be and advertised as a cheap rental that ended up costing me 4x times more than it should...DO NOT USE! Date of experience: 30 November 2023

I booked flights and car hire through a travel firm as a package - the car hire being with Greenmotion. I was concerned over the arrival of my flight and not being at the rental desk in time before their closure at Manchester Airport so I rang Greenmotion, twice, the day before my arrival but could not get past the recorded messages to speak to anybody, with no option to hold. I then emailed them but got no response. Having done the pre-check in with them so they had all my contact details, I stupidly assumed that they would contact me if there was a problem. Needless to say, the rental desk was shut by the time I got to them so I was left stranded at the airport without a car rental for the duration of my trip. I have since tried to get a refund from Greenmotion but they refused via the travel company, stating the Terms and Conditions of needing to contact them if a late arrival (!). I also emailed them directly but have never received a response so they need to take a long look at their customer service and communication as in this day and age, there is no excuse. I would advise you to look elsewhere.

Do not use this company - they are so bad. 1) It states London City Airport - but they are actually not at the airport, so even if they look a couple of pounds cheaper - it will take you 25 mins and public transport costs to get there. Just go with one of the suppliers at the actual airport. 2) Unfortunately I returned a rental car with a scuff on one of the alloys. I dont remember causing the damage, but I cant prove otherwise. Upon my return - I was informed that I would be charged £35 for a "damage service fee" and £175 for the repair. So a total fee of £205. I got a quote from a BVRLA approved company and it was £85. 3) I asked about their complaints process and how I could follow up and it took me 4 emails and over 2 weeks to get there. I was also given the wrong email by the service desk. 4) I have raised a complaint with the BVRLA about this company 5) The main issue is Green Motion are charging £35 admin fee and £175 for the damage. They state that "the appropriate charge needs to be made”. They however cant confirm who will be doing the work - I provided a quote for from a wheel repair specialists, who have quoted £85. this is a company accredited by the BVRLA. 6) In an email they highlighted that the “charge made does reflect an element of administration and off the road cost”, and that they “will not be requesting the manufacturer to organise or share details of the body shop which will undertake the repair at the vehicles end of life”. So they wont actually be taking the vehicle of the road. - On top of this - there is a “damage service fee” of £35. - So to confirm - Green motion are charging (a) and administration fee and (b) a damage service fee and (c) and off the road cost fee. This looks very much like you are charging 2 admin fees and a fee for it being off the road, however their email confirms that this vehicle is not being taken off the road, but they are charging for this......

Avoid this company if you wish to avoid being potentially charged hundreds of pounds for fraudulent claims of damage. We were charged for a mark that was almost imperceptible and was there when we picked up the vehicle from Edinburgh airport. We collected it in the rain and the 'mark' on the boot was invisible. Upon drop off the Edinburgh agent went straight for the 'mark' , yet even when he pointed it out it was still almost impossible to see. The whole thing was beyond absurd. We were then charged £700. Thankfully we had third party insurance to cover this claim but we were furious with such unscrupulous behaviour. Ultimately we all pay for this. Avoid green motion at all costs. You have been warned.
