I purchased a coverage level plus wellness plan which I believed would provide a better amount of reimbursement compared to the lower insurance plan. However, I have found the Pets Best are not good and do provide a level of reimbursement expected for their top tier plan. For other first time pet insurance buyers, I recommend you look into other insurance companies before deciding on Pets Best. It may be pet insurance overall which leaves some room for improvement but so far I am not impressed or happy with this pet insurance.

Slow to process claims. I am not sure the value is there for the price. They don’t cover a lot of things and take forever to process and have denied some of our claims.

I switched to Pet's Best from Trupanion once my 10-year-old dog passed and I adopted a new 1 year-old. I have regretted it almost immediately. As it turns out, she had a pretty serious health issue involving hospitalization. The processing of claims is MUCH slower, from the approval process to simply reimbursing my bank account. Now that there's a pre-existing condition, I can't go back to Trupanion, but I would if I could!

Pets Best takes much longer to process claims than other companies. It also pays less and has too many deductibles. I will not transfer my other pets to this insurance and will be looking to other alternatives. Gina K. MD

This was my first time filing a claim with Pets Best and I am completely unimpressed with their turn around time and communication regarding their tardiness. Their website boasts fast, personal service and I didn’t feel that promise was met. Once I submitted a claim, there was no communication on how long processing would take and I was unable to find the information listed on their website. I did finally receive a generic, impersonal email apologizing for the delay, but no estimate on processing time. Nor did I receive a reply to my e-mail when I asked for an estimated processing time. I received an email update confirming the reimbursement amount on 7/1/25. Since my reimbursement method is to my bank account, it listed it will take approximately 5-7 days. That means day 7 is tomorrow and I’ve yet to receive anything. Their email did not specify if the days are business days and if the 4th of July would further delay this process. I’m think better communication would help to reduce frustration. I will be giving them another change should something else come up and will be switching if their customer support remains lacking.

I really don't have an issue with Pets Best Insurance I just wish they paid 80% on wellness coverage also, I hate that my pet has to have a medical issue in order to be reimbursed 80%

I recently had to take my cat to the vet for a brand new medical issue, and my claim was denied due to it being a "pre-existing condition". Well it's not pre-existing because I've never taken my cat to the vet for anything like this before, so I'm not really sure on what grounds they have to deny the claim other than the caat had other health conditions before that 1% change "could" have contributed to this brand new issue. I would say if you get a brand new pet with no pre-existing conditions and put them on this health insurance right away, it would be worth it. But I'm finding the company will do anything to deny a claim by baselessly linking new issues to anything the pet has had in the past. I also have no clue why claims from over a month ago took so long, but then I submitted a new claim that got processed immediately (even before some of the claims from a month ago!)

Claims processing is extremely slow. This company was rated high by Consumer Reports, and I don't know why. We will be researching other companies.

I've had a generally positive experience with Pets Best, particularly with their excellent customer service and the timely processing of claims. This is truly commendable. My main concern, however, is the consistent and substantial rise in premiums, especially for the wellness plan. Unfortunately, these increases haven't come with any enhancements to the wellness benefits, making the value for money diminish over time.

several claims have taken too long to process, when I get a message from you saying that you are sorry for the delay even you know it is too long. On the good side claims are very easy to submit and the coverage is pretty good.

Really confused on how they charge a copay on each individual component of the surgery my dog had instead of just on the total bill.

When I started claim turn around was fairly quick (less than a week). Now it can take up to 3-4 weeks. Customer service is always helpful.

It is a challenge to reach a human being and the app never seems to be working. Claims take longer than I'd like. I'd love to see the dental coverage expanded.

It comes in handy for bigger procedures or emergencies (ones actually covered) which have happened maybe twice in 7.5 years. However it’s very frustrating to pay $100 a month (keeps going up) and when I submit a reimbursement form for one reason or another the stuff is not covered. I almost feel like I pay the monthly insurance for fun. Because there is always an excuse to not cover something. I’ve considered putting those $100 monthly aside and saving that money for when my dog needs something bigger (like an emergency etc). Because I feel like I’m paying a ton more than I’m actually getting coverage for. Feels like I pay insurance for no reason. I am overpaying, because I have the monthly insurance $100 and end up having to cover vet bills myself or get a ridiculously low amount of the bill covered, if any.

It's very unclear what is and is not covered under my plan in plain english. There was a marked delay in processing my claim.
