High premiums. Went from around 75.00 a month to around 103.00

They normally pay out well but sometimes I think the people reviewing the claims have zero brains in their heads. I’ve had to call several times because they did things wrong on a claim like saying my dogs had parasites just because they had a fecal test done. They also won’t cover a teeth cleaning for my dog because he’s never had one so there’s no proof of them ever having one simply because he had to get teeth extracted.

Pricing and coverage is reasonable, but the claims process is a huge hassle. One of my cats is diabetic and I have to submit claims for him regularly. It is not at all unusual to have to resubmit the claim three or more times before it gets reimbursed appropriately.

Honestly loved Pets best but the increase in my policy was astronomical this year it’s almost completely doubled. I have half the mind to start looking for other insurance options.

Pets Best is pretty decent overall, with several levels of coverage. Response time to claims was dreadful in past years, but has improved in 2025.

Enjoy the phone-a-vet feature for guidance on what to do when pet is unwell. Premiums are expensive & in the past, claims processing has taken a very long time :( Overall, an okay experience with room for improvement.

My dog is prone to getting ear infections. Pets Best has decided that since she had infections before, they are not covered. They call them pre-existing. So I would not recommend Pets Best if you pet has been sick with anything that may come back after getting this insurance.

It seems ok so far, but took quite a while to get a claim processed, and there was no real communication as to why. It would have seemingly sat pending for the rest of time if I hadn't reached out to inquire about the hold-up.

Filing a claim online is more difficult than it needs to be because of the wording of the questions and the drop down menu options offered, especially when your animal has more than one issue. I've had to call customer service a few times for clarification. Between long wait times and snippy attitudes, I'm not real pleased with this company. On the plus side, the annual renewal increase is reasonable. I have a senior cat.

I used to really love pets best. It was my go-to recommendation. This last accident has been a nightmare with the policy. Nitpicking everything we’re doing. It’s been a revolving door in vet offices 2-3 times a week for a month (and will be for a few more months). Requiring vets notes (which has never been requested previously). Pets Best are now deciding what things cost from the notes and what they want to cover out of our bills. My invoice is itemized, which I have been told multiple times on the phone, but it has been retracted multiple times too. I have also been told that it was on record that I was told it was itemized from a previous conversation. This is causing me to make the difficult decisions of cutting corners of my dog’s recovery. I still stand on the insurance company has the better policies overall. Which is why I gave them a 3 and not a 1. I have been a customer for 4 years and have been extremely happy with them. Had a dog with chemo, and pets best made that all possible. I am really frustrated with how they handled our most recent situation. I will be considering a new insurance company for the next puppy as I am hesitant to be stuck with this company after this current fiasco.

While your insurance coverage is good, the cost is prohibitive. Furthermore, some staff members exhibit unprofessional attitudes when inquiries are made, creating unnecessary confusion.

I am contemplating canceling as I see no benefits to the plan I have that I can afford. Its expensive goes up every year and I seem to pay for everything as nothing goes towards the deductible so I am paying for his covered medications. I have been thinking whether to cancel since my last claim. Everyone is extremely friendly but just don't know at this point. Better off setting money aside for a rainy day because insurance is expensive and hardly used.

It’s fine, it takes a really long time to hear back on a claim. Anytime I’ve called in, the service is acceptable, not extraordinary.

Good company for pets insurance but every year get more more expensive 😔 not working and I am struggling with these high payments every month $130 .00 and top of that thanks God my cat doesn't get sick so much for being 14 years old , I am do my very best to keep him healthy and happy but when I have to take it to the vet the insurance only covers very little , I lose lots of money like this I wish if your insurance can offer me a discount policy offer that I can effort because I am a senior lady with very low income , and my cat is also a senior cat but either way I thank you for being a good company for pets insurance . once again thank you . sincerely Gloria Gonzalez .

Normally I'd rate Pets Best a 5. They covered all my dogs who had very serious health conditions until they crossed the rainbow bridge without dropping us and didn't hike the premium rates for them at the time. However, after they sold out to private equity in 2024 I got a renewal notice for my senior dog that she would get a nearly 100% rate hike due to age. She has hardly any claims and she is very healthy. We have also been customers with multiple pets for years and we have been referring everyone to Pets Best. None of this was considered when they sent that renewal and I firmly believe it is because they sold to private equity and no longer care about providing good affordable insurance to pets nor supporting long standing customers. We are now looking into switching to Trupanion because our pups don't have pre existing conditions, or very few. Trupanion through Chewy CarePlus is not only much cheaper, by about 30%, but they also cover so much more. They also don't raise rates due to age nor claims made. Because of this we are also moving our very young and healthy puppy. We are also no longer referring anyone to Pets Best and have warned all our friends and family of the upcoming rate hike. Many of whom are now looking into leaving Pets Best as well. The only thing that will keep us with Pets Best is if Trupanion returns with a laundry list of pre-existing conditions for my senior dog. My puppy is for sure switching over. They have lost a customer whom has stated historically that they were a life long customer because of how beneficial Pets Best has been and whom has referred dozens of friends, family, and online strangers to sign up.

I was disappointed with my most recent claims. I kept getting emails stating you were waiting on records. When you didn't receive them, rather than contacting me, you just closed the claims. It literally took me 10 minutes to get the records and upload them.

I'm not sure how I'm feeling with Pets Best at this point. Not sure if I am going to keep the insurance. I'm not happy with my latest claim refund due to noticing a "deductable and copay". Two signicant deductions???? What the heck is the copay for???? Doesn't make sense to me. I can see the deductable, but isn't a copay similar to a deductable? I'm feeling a little "taken" by these fees. Not really happy.

Great insurance, but website sucks. Most time it unavailable, and tells you to try later.
