South Africa tour with Victoria Falls extension was amazing. Our tour guide Ron was on point with every aspect of the trip. He is definitely a winner. I will recommend this tour to others.

A summary statement would be this trip was anything but enjoyable. It was overcrowded (38 people on a bus, we were always waiting for someone), long lines every where we went, zero leisure time between daily events and hotels. Arrive Athens after 13+hrs travel time, we don't go to hotel as claimed because rooms aren't available until late afternoon, 1700 we arrive. Next day we board ship after 4+hrs waiting in line. Now our group has expanded to some 1800+ and lines are proportionate along with poor food quality. Finally off ship and in bus after another 4+ hr. wait. Then bus on to hotel again arriving late afternoon, which will be the format for next several days, 0600 wakeup, bags in hall 0700, depart 0800. return late. Finally Athens a partial day free then the next day breakfast (a box at 0300) depart 0330 for 16+hrs

This trip was an incredible adventure. The safaris were outstanding, the guides were knowledgable and the animal sightings and performances unbelievable. Everywhere we went the African people greeted you with smiles and were most helpful. The scenery was breathtaking. You do have to expect early risings and very rough roads. Direct flight to Nairobi would help lesson long wait times at several airports. If you truly love animals and nature it is a trip to add to your bucket list.

The tour was great. The guide, Paul, was excellent. The trip from the last hotel to the airport was ridiculous, we left the hotel at 4 am to get to the airport by 7am. However, the overall tour and my experience in Ireland was fantastic.

Our tour director, Gulla, and driver, Avie were excellent. Gulla was so knowledgeable and pleasant and she skillfully avoided any controversial subjects while respecting the questioner. Avie was skilled in driving on snow and ice and we felt especially safe as he is also a rescue team member. The itinerary was great and varied and the pace was appropriate. It was a great experience. Only two problems--when we stayed at Center Plaza but couldn't park near we had to move our own luggage. Very unpleasant in the rain and doubly so for those of us with canes. At checkout Gulla had arranged appropriate luggage transfer. One other problem; Gulla had confirmed our wheelchairs for the flight from Reykjavik and after checking on them a total of 5 times due to delay in the arrival of the chairs, we had to walk to security and the gate. We nearly missed our flight and we had arrived with 3 hours to spare--not Smartours problem but a real concern for others with mobility problems traveling on Icelandair.

Too much scrimping on details to be "very good." e.g. bag tags, no roster of travelers, some hotels mediocre - no Kleenex, toiletries or such amenities. Meals - buffets too much the same. Tour director excellent, most guides good to very good. Bus ok; not " very good." Driver excellent.

I went to Patagonia, Buenos Aires and Santiago Oct 18-30. The trip was well-planned and we were able to see all the sightseeing highlights plus more cited in tour books. The tour guides in Patagonia and Buenos Aires were fabulous. Patricia, in Patagonia, was informative, upbeat, nurturing, fun, and caring, and went the extra mile to make sure we were having a special experience. We loved her!! Maria, in Buenos Aires, was also wonderful. She too was knowledgeable, caring, and upbeat. Although her time with us was up, she stayed at the airport to make sure that we all got onto flights to Miami that would enable us to make our connections home. (Our LATAM flight was going to be either delayed or cancelled.) Other travel groups scheduled on LATAM did not have an advocate like Maria and likely, missed their connecting flights home. Kudos to both of these guides who went out of the way to make our experience the best.

To much time on the bus and not enough included meals

Information was not complete about using American currency. You should have been upfront about bills being almost completely new without any extraneous marks on them. You should also prepare us for how many more people would be expecting tips. Our tour guide, Chico, was good. I found the hotels we stayed in very nice, and the side tours good.

Great tour! Paul was a great guide. Just wish the tour would go to Ireland & Scotland not just Ireland. Everything was well planned no issues.

The tour guide Gulla and bus driver were wonderful and very caring. However I think we should have had name tags 🏷 to identify ourselves and we shouldn’t have had to drag our luggage 2 and half blocks to the hotel.

Fantastic tour! Gai Perez is absolutely the best tour guide we’ve ever had on any trip. Amazing knowledge about the complete history of Israel going back to the beginning and such a passion for his country. Such a wonderful vacation we won’t forget.

Accommodations were great, including the Movenpick Royal Lily. Especially enjoyed our time on the Nile. Randa, our “tour manager” was less effective than the tour managers we had on our prior two smarTours trips. She is very personable - would be good to share drinks or a meal with, however, she was virtually unable to keep to a schedule & was not very good at communicating needed info in a timely manner. Finally, we found the Egyptians we met to be very friendly but the country itself is dirty & trashy. The “great monuments” were vastly overrated, in our opinion, and Randa’s explanations at the various key sites were very uninspired and “canned” without any interesting contextual basis - the exact opposite of our experience when we went to South Africa with smarTours. Also, we appreciate that we had such good security protection - but, had we known the security situation was that fragile & dicey we would not have gone (e.g. day after we left, terrorists attacked a bus of Egyptian Christians several miles south of Cairo, killed 7 & wounded 19!!). Glad we got out alive. Finally, the folks in our tour group were very nice and enjoyable to travel with.

Our Tour Guide Susie did a very nice job making us feel comfortable and welcome. She educated us on a variety of subjects about Thailand and the people. The tours provided were good but there were too many optional tours that could have been provided in the original tour especially the Grand Palace tour if that was supposed to be the highlight of Thailand. The scheduling of the flights and the very long layover times were not coordinated very well.

I would not recommend SmarTours to anyone. Their communication is horrible. You don't find out your exact itinerary until 10 days before you leave. And of course it is an itinerary from hell with 2 am wake up calls for 5 am flights. We would arrive at our destination for the day too tired to really process anything. When we complained to our tour manager, she said "you can sleep when you are home." The whole trip was mismanage. We would wake up early to get somewhere and then sit on the bus for 40 minutes in the parking lot while she lectured us about what we were going to see, and only give us an hour to see it! Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) on our trip also got sick. Which means we were taken to places to eat that were not good for american bellies. I'm a very seasoned traveler. I've been to over 50 countries and usually do 3 international trips a year. So trust me when I say, save your money and go with another tour group. I would give smarTours no stars if that was an option.
