I signed up to TalkTalk in October 2015 (phone, broadband & tv package). On connection we found our broadband speeds were very low (1.5mb) so I called TalkTalk (overseas call centre) on two occasions to upgrade to fibre broadband. I was assured that I could get fibre broadband and was promised on both occasions that someone would call me back to complete the upgrade but no one did. On my third call I was told that I could not get fibre in my location. I informed them that I was not happy and that I wanted to cancel as I was still within their cancellation period. Their advisor suggested I speak to their engineering team to see if they could improve the broadband speed and foolishly I agreed to give them the opportunity to put things right. I was promised a call back but yet again it never materialised. I called again the following day to cancel, only to be told that I was now out of their cancellation period and so there would be a charge. I was then transferred between several advisors and continually put on hold. Eventually I was put through to someone in their UK centre who was generally rude and arrogant. In total I was kept on the phone for over 1 hour, after which I was left feeling extremely angry and frustrated with my whole TalkTalk experience. I then signed up to BT but to make matters worse, TalkTalk then disconnected my services a week early leaving me with no phone and broadband and they even refused my transfer saying that I had given them my wrong post code! Fortunately BT sorted things out for me. I would not use TalkTalk if they offered to provide their services free of charge and would strongly recommend avoiding them at all costs!

Overall a terrible experience. TalkTalk is incompetent - being completely unable look after its customers and their data. In response to yet another data breach I called to cancel my service and I had my decision questioned with statements like "what makes you think any other provider can keep your data safe?". Upon pointing out the blatant breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 I was met with 3 minutes silence before the operator responded with some nonsense about Talk Talk being the 'victim'. Awful company I will never go near them again!

I have been executor for my father's estate. He was with TalkTalk for several years and I kept on the account for about a year after he died, until his house was sold. It was when I tried to close the account I realised how utterly ghastly this company is. Rang on 1 September to say house was changing ownership on 18 September and needed to close account. Impossible. You have to give 30 days notice whatever the circumstances. I asked whether they could stop new owners from using the phone after we sold the property. Yes, they would put a bar on it after 3 days. Actually they did it within 2 hours, cutting me off without warning. Needless to say, they then swiped their regular monthly DD payment (approx £45) from my bank account 18 days after they disabled the account. This happened also to be the day of change of ownership, so TalkTalk cheerfully took money for providing no service at all. After 35 days, I rang to ask where my final bill was. Insisted on putting me through to "bereavement unit", where a person trained in sympathetic murmurings finally told me a charge had been generated on 4 October, well after the 30 days notice, and well after it was possible to use the account. I still do not understand how this is possible, but apparently I am due a refund of £2.36! This looks like a well-organised plan for relieving people of their cash without providing any service at all. But in the end, I am so relieved not to be talking to them ever again, I think it cheap at the price. Never, ever go near these scoundrels.

Absolutely awful. I wouldn't even give this company one star. I was with the company for two years in a contract and have never experienced such a terrible wireless internet connection in my life. If more than one device was connected to the network at one time then it was virtually impossible for anyone else to get a connection. I rang up numerous times to complain but didn't get anywhere as the customer service advisors could hardly speak English and I couldn't understand what they were telling me half the time. Eventually they sent me a new 'improved' router which was EXACTLY the same as the old one, which subsequently did NOT provide me with a faster connection. I couldn't have been happier when my contract finished and am now with Virgin Media who have given me a much better service

Cancelled my contract without telling me. Made no attempt to return any money taken, cancel the direct debit or tell me that taking a day off work would be a waste. Very poor.

Completely rubbish. Service drops out continuously, and when I called them to find out about their mobile services I was told I could have a new router with more connections on the back, which would be much better than my existing router ..... IF I took their TV services too, and also signed up with them for another year! I was sent the YouView Box, and a new router ...... which was EXACTLY THE SAME AS MY EXISTING ROUTER! Total misrepresentation by their customer services rep. When speaking to their customer service team about my service dropping out, I was told to do all sorts of things basically laying the blame with me, not them or their poor equipment. Off I went and bought a brand new router and HEY PRESTO no more dropping out. Consequently, I sent all of their equipment back, went elsewhere for my mobile (dialaphone are great!), and will not be renewing my contract with TalkTalk for love nor money! Can't wait to get away from them. Oh, and I can't understand a word their customer service reps say!!!!!!!

Reading up on my broadband problem, it seems it’s not rare, & usually made far worse by TalkTalk’s almost criminally bad “customer service”.
