They would charge extra fees without informing customers first - they would tell you AFTER you inquire about it - and absolutely no refunds. My box was sent back for no fault of my own and TokyoTreat wants to charge me twice as much to ship my box that I have already paid for for reshipping. This is not how you do business. TokyoTreat is horrendous.

After ordering a 12 month subscription in March, I have received various and many extremely confusing emails about shipping and delays. They never refer to which box is delayed, returned, held, still being shipped etc. My first one shipped in March and It is now May and I have received no boxes. They try numerous times in emails to change your shipping options and upcharge you when the plan is free shipping. Today was the last straw with a random email they sent that had this hidden in the center of the email "We would like to hear your shipping preference by 5/6/2020 23:59 JST, and if we don’t hear from you by then, you will be automatically converted to our DHL Shipping Plan." They send TONS of emails, so if I had not read this email, I would have seen an $11 charge on my card in a week for upgraded shipping. I paid for a yearly free shipping plan, and wanted to set and forget. It is ridiculous I need to read every single email they send from top to bottom for the next year to make sure they don't randomly charge me when they deem necessary to switch my shipping. I understand a lot of issues are happening with the post due to covid so I can understand delays, but don't send me opt - out upcharges in emails I may not read, and refer to which boxes are actually affected and what is happening with them.

I know Covid is taking a toll on everyone. But I just got an email from Toyko Treat saying they cant ship my box at all unless I pay another $5. It's already expensive and priority shipping should be included in that price, what a money grab. I paid the $5 because I'm a broke millenial and dont want to waste the first $40 I paid to them. I'll be using other services in the future, like Japan Crate, all their customers are still receiving their boxes without having to pay extra.

They are ok but they just sign you up for another year without your warning and if you try to cancel its impossible to do so without a lot of emails beware of this if you do use them

A scam be careful! I subscribed for 6 months only and even if it is written nowhere they automatically reniew the subscription (and charge you without notice) ! They refuse to refund me the 138USD which is unacceptable ! so now I will receive their boxes for the next 6 months which are absolutely not worth the price. They could at least ask customers if they want to reniew the subscription instead of scamming like this!

terrible! dont subscribe!! I never received 5 of the 6 boxes I paid! When you say you didnt receive the tell you to wait. if you wait adn still didnt receive, they say it has passed the limit time to help you and you get no box and no refund. And no answer after that. total disrespectful

Paid over £30 for a box of treats which I was happy with then a month later was charged over £30 again... Was told I could not cancel. No refund. So now taking it up with my card company. Should not be allowed to trick customers like this.

The snacks are great, but it’s as if the website is made to trick you into paying more than you intend to. I thought I was just buying one box and, to my surprise, a month later they billed me for another one, with no refund option. Seems like this has happened to a lot of people too.

*TL;DR: Decent product but not as good as competitors, and more importantly, dishonest business practices and severely lacking customer care.* Fairly large array of items (at least with the premium box), but mostly just sweets; Lacks the variety of competing services like Bokksu. If you're really into candy that might be fine, though it does get a bit repetitive. The monthly theme and little bits of Japanese culture are kinda cute. The biggest con is that it feels a bit like... well, a con. They really go out of their way to obscure the auto-renewal of the subscription and keep it in fine print, give no option to opt out of it, and provide no reminders until the next payment has been processed. Also, of course, no refunds once the payment has been made, even if the payment is for multiple months and none of them have actually shipped yet. When opening a ticket with their support system, one of the main answers that automatically pops up is exactly about this, stating only that they don't give refunds. So, you can tell this is an issue that happens to a lot of customers, who end up paying hundreds of dollars unintentionally. Not surprising, since the company clearly made design choices to encourage these kinds of accidents. On top of that, they offer rewards for giving them reviews, hoping to drown out the complaints they get for their poor customer service with even _more_ shady manipulation. In my book, honest business practices are more important than any specific product (especially considering the quality of the product isn't exceptional either, and arguably worse than their competitors), which is the main cause for the low score.

Pretty awful customer service. Only got 4 of my 6 boxes, they told me to ask the post office of my country and that was it, they closed my ticket saying it was solved. Would not recommend.

TokyoTreat isn't a bad product in itself, but its *absolutely* overpriced. Simply go to Amazon and search for Japanese Candy/Snack box, and you will find hundreds of alternatives which offer double the amount of snacks for half the price. So if you're looking for value for money, steer away!

Support service is non existent. Bought gifts of Tokyo treat and nomakenolife boxes. Then realised I’d added the wrong email address to the Tokyo treat one. Only way to fix is to contact them. Raised a ticket and got a nonsense response that shows they didn’t even read my request - just closed it without resolving. Have contacted them twice more and still no response. So now I’ve paid for a 3 month subscription and neither my nephew (who now never received his Christmas present) can access what I paid for.

Don’t order from this company. I ordered a monthly subscription October and only got one box. They charged me for november and never received the box. Emailed them several times and still no reply or refund. Finally had to make a fraud claim with my bank.

I've always been a fan of anime, kawaii merch and their food! Tokyo Treat embodies all of that on its best of days. Other times, it just frustrates me because of how much you actually pay for it. Customer service is helpful but at the end- you're on your own as there's usually nothing that can be done about status of delivery UNLESS ya paid for the option!

Delivery seems to take an age, but once you have a subscription up and running they come once a month, and you don't really notice the delay. Box contents are quite varied. The drinks are usually really good, but the rest can be a bit hit and miss. The sweet things are generally good, but some of the savoury stuff often has a fishy theme and can be a bit odd. But it's nice to try some different things. On the whole though, I think the boxes are okay and I'm satisfied with the price, especially as it gets cheaper once you've purchased a few.

What needs to be understood is that the shipping takes a long time but thats to de expected. The products are cool but most seem like the rejects and for what you get its a bit pricey. I do enjoy at least 3 of the items I get in the box each time but if you live in a hot climate, then your stuffs gonna melt abit. The rewards could be beefed up abit too.
