I took the 0 deductible insurance. Somebody hit the car and drove away. Turo now insist that the claim not go thru their insurance.

There are lots of hidden costs in the form of protection, gas, and delivery fees. Once Turo gets the credit card, they invoice fraudulent charges. The customer service is pro car owners and does not care about the users.

It was smooth to set an account and rent a car. After return it, my initial fair experience went to down hill - fast. The car got minor scratch on an orange plastic road block pilon; however, the online report does not have enough space to provide proper information but you would not know as you can type all you want and at the end the majority info show - simply disappeared to cyber space. When I contact the the customer service and was told someone from claim department will contact me. Guess what, no one reached out to me and the bill just showed on my credit card without any explanation.

This company is scam!!! I was double charged for a car rental and screwed my bank account up. Do not give these people your credit card or banking info. Horrible experience. They stole 300$ from me. I would never recommend them to anyone

The customer service is terrible.!!! I called three times to check on my refund and I was put on hold for over one hour three different calls..with no answer...as soon as I cancelled by reservation they changed the receipt to hide additional charges that are still due back to me....I am still waiting to see what will be refunded to my credit cards...they are totally playing a game with the consumer...beware!!!! Their website is very lame as well,, as soon as you book a reservation, you are blocked from looking at other cars for that same timeframe which is ridiculous. I brought this up to the customer rep and he could not careless about what I said. On the flip side, the owner of the vehicle I was going to rent from, was amazing and could not be more accomodating..he is new to Turo as well and I honestly do not think he will continue once he figures all of this out....FYI...make sure you have full car insurance ...they will try to sell you their version but it does not cover anything! Most car insurance companies will not cover "car sharing rentals" and so you are stuck with their lame insurance package....better off spending a few extra bucks and renting from a reputable car rental company where you will have full coverage with your own personal car insurance coverage.

In June 2022 my partner and I used Turo to rent a Subaru Forrester in Montana for 4 days. During the visit to Glacier National Park we noticed our car had been dinged on our left rear door (it was very windy so we assumed a neighboring car’s door flung into ours). As such, we followed protocol and logged the ding (see original photo below). What happened next was extremely surprising and disappointing. According to our first estimate car was inspected on 06/30/2022 and we received an “estimate” for the repairs on 07/02/2022 for ~$1,200. The price was more than what we expected but we wanted to close the matter and subsequently paid. Then over 2 months later on 09/07/2022 we received a follow-up “estimate” from Turo. Turo was requesting over $1,000 more to cover additional costs. Initially, when we received this email we assumed it was spam. Not only was the cost astronomical for a small ding (see photo) but so long has passed without any communication that we presumed the matter closed. When inspecting the second “estimate” it is claimed that it took over 20 hours to fix the car (see breakdown below). Apparently, the repair even involved fixing front doors! We have no knowledge of damage to the front doors, and if there was damage we would expect it to be logged immediately after our rental period, not over 2 months later. Now our total requested out-of-pocket was well over $2k and conveniently below our $3k excess. Overall, this experience with Turo has been extremely disappointing and caused unnecessary distress to us. We know this wouldn’t have happened if we used a traditional rental company and going forward that’s what we will do.

Unfounded Charges! I typically do not leave negative reviews, especially for small businesses..I felt the need to inform the consumer! I rented a few cars from TURO at the RoadRunner Towing & Storage location in Yucaipa California. The initial experience was great, although the cars were worn down, it was convenient. My last Volkswagen was in “good” driving conditions, but shortly after the oil light flashed and the smell of burning engine-I reported it and dropped it off as it was my last day. The following day I received a BS CHARGE for “smoking” in the car of
$260.00 followed by two pic with some light ashes on the floor mat of the passenger side. I thought it was easily explainable as I am not a smoker! If you live in southern Cali, you’re aware of the fire situation we’re currently experiencing! The light ash may have been from the fires and tracked in but certainly did not come from smoking. I tried my best disputing the charges to no avail! I was wrongly charged and couldn’t for the life of me connect with a human being on a call with TURO to hear me out. It’s understandable that if you smoke in the car and go against their policy you get charged., but in no way did I smoke nor do I smoke! BEWARE of doing business through TURO loCated at RoadRunner Towing & Storage as you are risking faulty charges. I will be following up with the better business bureau in the area

"Rented" a Turo vehicle in June 2022 to see family in Chicago. Initially the car was great, host communicated well and I left her with a great review. Upon completion, I received an email days later that I had been charged a smoking fee of $250. I received no warning, only an image that proved nothing. Knowing Turo's STRICT policies- we never smoked in the vehicle. I wrote to the host to try to clear up the confusion with no response. Turo would not allow me to dispute or appeal the claim, stating their decision was final based on the very weak and circumstantial evidence. They charged the card on file automatically. After numerous emails they still ignored my questions and concerns. I have never had any issues prior to this. I also find it very interesting that the allegation was made AFTER I gave the host a good review. Turo closed my account with complete disregard. I do not recommend their services as their customer support is poor and they do not give you the opportunity to fight back. Whatever the host claims is final and can not be reversed. Shame on you!

I was charged duplicate fees for nj tolls. I disputed these charges thru turo with hope I could simply file a proper dispute with the PA E-ZPASS knowing they would side with me and simply charge me the toll and waive the administrative fee. The statue in nj forbids toll evasion charges for E-ZPass account holders in good standing and the process of disputing this is fairly simple. The dispute process was oddly fast with TURO. I was immediately told I was liable without a real reason. I was told they decided the host was correct and they were charging me immediately. The charges were already in motion by the time I got notified. Furthermore they suspended my account and accused me of violating the grey market policy for insisting I would pay the tolls through E-ZPass and not them. I’m only assuming this because they never clarified the suspension but just made me affirm I understood the grey market policy. The company charges 3% for assisting with these after trip claims. The numbers speak for themselves when you consider that the toll fee of $50 gets added to every toll violation. They stand to loose a large portion of revenue from this practice. I hope the class action lawsuit is successful. I hold two E-ZPass accounts because I was accused of toll evasion in the past and made to pay an insane amount of fees. I got wise and read the law. I have two E-ZPass accounts nowZ. One in PA and one in NJ and I added this vehicles tag to my PA account since it was a PA plate. I installed the transponder in the dash but these things fail OFTEN and even the website currently states they are backed up from fees dating to 2021 from COVID. While administrative delays are inevitable. The toll had been immediately sent to the owner of the vehicle, my host Douglass. Instead of notifying me this owner just paid the fines, admitted guilt and submitted an invoice to me. I disputed this invoice for obvious reasons and got hate mail telling me he will make sure everyone knows I’m the worst guest and he will get me blocked. I responded by saying, Hey, I can fix this is two seconds n I’ll have it paid. He replied.” I already paid it. I can’t wait for guests to pay. I’ll get late fees.” TURO billed my checking account immediately. I don’t keep excess cash in this account for this reason. The charges left me (overdrawn). They also doubled the fee and charged me twice the amount of which they claims was a human error. Well they have actually committed a legal error and denied my right to due process for these fees. Liability for all tolls was assumed by me in my contract but nowhere did it say I would allow the owner to invoice me for tolls that I am liable for. In NJ, we are forbidden from claiming no contest for these types of offenses. It’s simply guilty or not guilty. A payment of fine or fee is an admission of guilt and I in no way waived my right to receive a waiver of penalty as I did not evade the toll. The toll was 2.30. All other tolls were properly recorded by the transponder and charged to my E-ZPass account. If the host read properly he would have noticed the back of the sheet has a checkbox for lessors to transfer liability by sending them a copy of the lease agreement. Now wouldn’t you want to prevent being convicted of breaking the law and transfer liabilty as opposed to Admitting guilt to something that might end up causing you a $500 fine and possible loss of license and your registration privileges in New Jersey? I won’t say this man is the brightest I believe he’s fearful of the toll more so then he understands the actual right to transfer the liability because Toro would rather charge 3% and get a piece of the pie and he gets to have a substantial tax write off when he receives his 1099 K from Toro at the end of the year and has to pay a large tax bill. He didn’t seem to understand that this was all illegal. How on earth is this company violating my basic right to due process and holding my debit card on file to be abused for 90 days after my trip to allow the host time to file post trip charges? The host should have transferred liability under N.J. Admin. Code § 19:9-9.2, And several other laws that I can and will be using to stop this practice. It’s a shame. I enjoyed the service. It was expensive. I spent al most 1300 to rent two vehicles for 7 days in total. They had to get greedy and now I’m a damn toll rights activist seeking justice. Just why?

Turo insurance policy. When you book a car with Turo , it provides 4 different insurance categories. One of them to decline any insurance and other 3 options are to cover physical damages to the car while you are using it. I rented out a car from a host and during the rental period car had small physical damage. Thought I paid close to 1000 for the “premier” insurance , Turo wants to go after my personal insurance. After almost two months later, Turo hasn’t gotten back to the host or me ( somehow, Turo paid a partial amount to the host), and when I emailed Turo, they pointed out in their terms and conditions mentions that they will go after renters insurance first for any damages regardless of the insurance purchased. I strongly believe the turo app is misleading, and they deliberately do not provide some of the essential terms of the insurance policies to trick customers into purchasing higher insurance policies.

I rented Turo for 2 days and the car had had odor and when I drove 1 hour, the car could only speed up to 25-30 miles mph and the noise was super loud. I didn’t feel safe driving it and I couldn’t drive it onto the highway so I parked it somewhere near. And then the host started threatening me and said that I returned the vehicle late, which I didn’t. And then they charged me another 164.3 dollars for returning it late. It cost me 330 dollars for driving a car I cannot use for 1 hour. And it ruined my trip ! I also emailed with Turo for 1 month but they didn’t resolve my issue. They didn’t want to help me they just want to charge my money. It is absolutely the lamest and most shady company I have ever encountered. I saw many other reviews on Turo too, it’s just a terrible company. Don’t ever try !

Not once but twice have I rented cars through Turo which had battery issues. I’ve been stranded and unable to get Turo to actually find someone to tow me and help. I once waited for hours before getting a jump from someone and then having to replace the battery myself. The car owner was polite enough to help reimburse me but Turo wasn’t willing to help at since I “exchanged money outside of Turo.” I’m writing this as I am seated at an Autozone for my second Turo rental that was form a different provider and has a bad battery. Turo provides unreliable cars and bad service. You get what you pay for.

The first time I used this app and rented a vehicle for the weekend I received confirmation that I had reserved it and they had taken the money from my credit card. I then receive an email from the owner of the car stating that the vehicle wouldn't be available when I needed it so they were cancelling my reservation. I thought that was the purpose of putting in the dates you wanted to reserve a car! The app said I could use the money I had paid towards another car. NO, I want a refund so I can go to a reputable company!

0 stars. Worst rental experience of my entire life. The car was given to me with NO oil, 300 miles away from being due for service, which I didn’t find out until the engine overheated, stalled, and began smoking 2 hours into my road trip. Once I broke down, the host called me to promise that the car had been “recently serviced” and requested that I add 2 quarts of oil to the car to see if it starts. When I added 2 fresh quarts, the dipstick went from indicating empty to showing a low level of dirty (black) oil, and the engine still wouldn’t crank. The host refunded me for the two quarts of oil then recommended I call Turo for roadside assistance. When I initially called, roadside assistance told me it would cost me $1k to tow the car back to the host. When I explained this to the host over the phone, they informed me they would call Turo to sort this out. At that point, the host placed a damage claim against me on the vehicle, which hindered Turo’s ability to search for a replacement vehicle ahead of the tow truck arriving (due to Turo regulations for vehicles with damage claims). The host then assured me that they spoke to Turo and a tow truck and replacement vehicle “should be on the way”. When I asked if Turo provided an ETA for their services (as I was waiting in triple digit heat in the middle of nowhere on the side of the highway), the host simply replied with “Nope” and began to defer me to get help from Turo Support via the Help icon. The host became extremely dismissive of the situation I was in due to their failure to properly maintenance the vehicle and even told me they were “just the middle man” as I continued to try to get more details for my discussion with Turo Support. The host stopped replying to all communication from me about an hour after I broke down, however, Turo required me to confirm specific details with the host in order to track down the roadside service they mentioned “should” be on the way. This made it extremely difficult for Turo to successfully send help my way. Due to the lack of communication from the host and ridiculous Turo policies, I waited 7 hours in the heat for a tow truck to get to me, then once Turo verified the car was on the tow truck, I waited an additional 2.5 hours on the side of the highway, in the dark, with all my luggage in a town that I am highly unfamiliar before a replacement car was sent my way. Getting the replacement vehicle was the biggest headache, because Turo initially told me no rentals were available in my area, so I’d have to Uber/Lyft to the nearest city to book a rental at a third-party facility that is open 24hrs. However, Turo would not pay for my rideshare to get to the rental car facility. We went back and forth for hours until I convinced an executive representative to just add a travel credit to my Turo app so I could book the nearest available vehicle. They forced me to work out an agreement with the host of the new car that allowed me to drop off the new vehicle in my hometown (so I could get home safely), and thankfully the new host agreed because no other cars were available! To add insult to injury, the host tried to claim that I didn’t leave the key in the vehicle once it made it to their house, when the tow truck guy definitely used the key to try to put the car in neutral and then left it in the ignition!! I don’t know if this was an attempt to beef up their false damage claim, but it was certainly off putting. Roadside assistance tried reaching out to the host once they arrived with the vehicle, but since the host was unresponsive, who knows what they did with the key. Take that issue up with the roadside provider, not me!! I missed business opportunities due to this issue, strained a pre existing back injury due to the hours spent standing/sitting on concrete while waiting on a replacement vehicle, feared for my life as I waited on the side of the highway late at night with no vehicle for protection, and experienced a severe anxiety attack while waiting hours to find out how I would get back home. This is the most ridiculous situation I’ve experienced with ANY corporation, due to the sheer lack of accountability and empathy displayed from both the host and every representative I spoke with at Turo. I highly recommend Turo reviews this host’s credibility as well as the company’s replacement vehicle policies. My attorney will definitely be in contact with Turo’s corporate legal team to discuss this further.

If I could put “0”I would do that. The day before my trip I got message that my trip was canceled due to car crash which I booked. I got email from support team “ No worries!.. and bla-bla-bla”. As a result I spent 2 days on phone trying to find a car and I didn’t! 1 host didn’t respond, 2nd canceled saying “Sorry, I didn’t check my calendar. The car is not available” Than appeared an error with payment. Turo assistance was playing in ping-pong game with me. Finally, MY MONEY was AGAIN taken from my credit card!!! So they took my money twice and I DIDN’t get a CAR!!! So now I have to spend days trying to get my money back!

Turo has been one of those platforms that I would never suggest! Though they might have slight cheaper rates, but the support and the customer service is horrible and they don’t even care about you! I rented a car from Turo and we ran out of charge and while they claim it’s our fault! Which doesn’t make sense! Because there was no charging station in the stretch and I paid towing charges! I called Turo even before making a decision to see if they can help, but they said I can follow the owner. So i informed owner and he suggested that we take towing help! The expectation to take insurance from Turo or book through that platform is that our expenses are covered, but unfortunately, after several follow-up and little hours and days of wait time, they finally said they don’t even care and pay any single penny! That’s so shame on them and on a growing company! I would never use Turo again nor I recommend you guys getting in to trouble
