Howdens in Leeds are horrendous. They price matched DIY kitchens but downgraded everything and removed the larder without telling me. After weeks of negotiating and trying to understand their order as there’s no price, no quantity, no product details, they changed things. They’re unscrupulous and have no transparency. I’ve received half a kitchen as there’s so many items missing, they ordered incorrect items and as it’s paint to order they’re saying it will be 5 weeks - paint to order is 3 weeks! They don’t respond to emails or phone calls & have driven me, my builder and the joiner to despair over the last couple of months. If you want to keep your sanity, avoid at all costs.

Well the whole experience with Howdens in Daventry is shocking. Not something I would expect from howdens and I am not going to lie we regret this decision more than anything in our house. We were recommended by a traded that took us there. We did mention that we are moving all the way from London and we have a deadline so we need the kitchen fairly quick. also they could see when we went to the showroom that my wife is in advanced pregnancy. Nevertheless I should see a red flags from the start. We had the appointment for measurements. We were promised project by Friday which did not happened. Project was very rushed and there was a lot of things that did not worked well. Not sure how that works but I expect from someone who is making project - if you do this that way you will have limited acces to the corner. Well there was no advice given. Aver looking at the project and trying to contact Howdens Daventry without any luck - there's always someone either on a meeting our on the survey. We went to see a manager and apply changes to the project which he did . On that day he was extremely pushy to have it pay on the day! He offered discount and we agreed. I asked for bill with all the details what we are paying for - unfortunately despite asking this like 20x more times we still do not know what we have paid for. Kitchen has been delivered and from a start there was a lot of items missing! According to project there was like 6m+ plinth and we had delivered 5m. Six end panels on project delivered only 4. And so on and on. Over 2 weeks when we had this kitchen fitted I have been in Howdens to pick up missing items like 15 times or more. Day one of fitting and we found an issue. Person that have turned up to do the survey did not take into consideration the main water supply and piping behind the existing kitchen which resulted in the fact that the washing machine will not fit!!!! We had to give up fitting a washing machin in the kitchen because your project was not done right! We had to fill up the gap of washing machine with cabinets which were delivered damaged!!!! So we have sent the pictures to Howdens and we heard oh we can organise replacement in like 7 days! Sure despite having a deadline and appointment for worktop fitting we will wait another 7 days. We had to fit this damaged cabinet to do not miss the worktop fitting appointment. But seems like manager in Howdens did not care about it. Overall kitchen fitted, worktop fitted and then we started to clean the panels ect. And we kept finding manufacturing defect on the panels. Bubbles that are on the panel facing. So we asked Manager to send us a list with costs so we can know what we have paid for. Unfortunately we did not receive this till now. Like this is a secret for some reason. What is more we knew we had outstanding bill of 2700.00 for a worktop. Then we were told this bill came up to almost 3500.00 despite in the meantime we have returned, front door that supposed to go on the washing machine, one end panel, splashback, and several other small items. No explanation given why the cost went up. I did mention to manager that all your mistakes cost us extra 2 weeks in work and we had to spend another 3000.00 to redo the bathroom to accommodate washing machine that supposed to be fitted in the kitchen. So after a long conversation between us, traded and the manager, the manager Tom have agreed to set up a bill at 3000.00 which was paid on the day. What a surprise it was when the traded received CCJ for remaining 500.00, 2 weeks later. Not sure how you can advertise yourself as first trade supply if you treat your trades this way. Don't want to mention we had to hire another trader for a week so they could work together with traded that purchased this for us to make up the time loos due to mess ups with the kitchen. And this traded mentioned that this like 2nd class kitchen from a return due to a lot of panels being damaged or marked as class B panel. Worktop - 2700.00 pounds Worktop looks wore after 2 month that 500 pounds laminate worktop we had for over 15 years in our last house! Supposed to be done for especially for us and we were told that is being done from fresh composited. Where on the worktop that was delivered there was a date 2023/10 so it was actually from old composite. My wie dropped a knife on that and it has a mark like it was hit with an axe. So not sure what happened here but honestly - you do not expect this to be happening after 2 months. Two month in using the kitchen and we are well unhappy. Corner cabinets designed in a way they barely accessible. Doors on cabinets keep dropping and need adjustment. Seal on lamona oven started to leak in a way that is floods the cabinet underneath. Lamona extractor fan is so loud when working on first speed that makes the whole surround vibrating. So overall we spent almost 11k on kitchen. Extra 3k redoing the bathroom because designer could not be bothered to check the pipes behind. Another 1.5k for extra fitter to make up the time loss due to all Howdens mess ups. And we still ended up with kitchen we are not happy with due to poor finish on Shaker doors.

Extremely bad service. Lindy, Howdens Mowbray Drive. Blackpool Called Howdens to measure up for a kitchen, they came out, measured, then I went to see them in “Blackpool Mowbray Drive” Not realising, they were a franchise, and my fitter uses the Poulton branch. My bad Anyway, I went to see them to look at a design and was quoted £21k. I was totally shocked. B&Q had quoted me £14k to include an LVT floor throughout. The guy at Howdens on Mowbray Drive told me he would email me a 3 D design and he would speak to the manager to try to get the price down. It’s been 11 days and I’ve not heard a thing. In the meantime my fitter said I had used the wrong Howdens, I’m thinking oh, no big deal, I’m sure they can transfer me to the Poulton office. I called Mowbray Drive today, to let them know I have not heard anything back about the price or an email with a 3D plan and could they transfer it to the Poulton office. After going back and forth with Lindy the manager, she put the phone down on me 😱, I called back and told her how rude that was. She put the phone down because she had said she would speak to the guy who measured because he would be in trouble if it was true that he had not followed it up with me and he could have got the price down. I asked Lindy, when she spoke to him, to find out if it was indeed true, would she then be able to transfer me to Poulton, she kept avoiding my question, and this is when she put the phone down. I am totally shocked at the service. If you take recommendations, please be careful of Howdens, particularly the terrible service from Lindy at Howdens on Mowbray Drive Blackpool. Extremely unprofessional behaviour!

My experience with Howdens has been deeply disappointing and frustrating. A defective worktop and base unit were installed due to poor planning—specifically, not leaving enough space around the cooker. When I raised the issue, Howdens refused to take any responsibility. Their go-to excuse? “Your contract is with the trader, not with Howdens.” This is a convenient way to dodge accountability, despite the fact that Howdens supplied the products and were involved in the process. At no point do they make this relationship clear, nor do they provide any guidance on what recourse you have if something goes wrong. If you're still considering buying from Howdens, do not part with a single penny until you’ve asked for the full terms and conditions in writing, including: What happens if the product is defective; Who is responsible for resolving issues; What support (if any) Howdens offers post-sale. Transparency should be a basic expectation—not a battle. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.

Poor quality materials (finish on Allendale cabinets became bumpy/lifted)- totally unsuitable for use in a kitchen - many replacements (same issue) and after over two years am now having to take legal action & take the matter to trading standards, as Howdens refuse to refund. This is after recently admitting issues are likely due to moisture ingress, in a kitchen! It's farcical. I have also had hassle with faulty Lamona appliances (which were at least fixed, after multiple visits and a lot of chasing from me). I wish I had never heard of Howdens and went for a better quality kitchen, elsewhere. Save yourself a lot of stress and look elsewhere for your kitchen.

Avoid – Poor Quality Product, No Accountability, and No Consumer Protection We purchased the Matt Black Handleless Hockley range kitchen from Howdens in May 2025 and have been extremely disappointed—not only with the product quality but also with the way our complaint has been handled over the past 12 months. From the outset, this kitchen has been completely unfit for purpose. The matt black finish doesn’t just show fingerprints—it shows every single mark, including water. The surface is so sensitive that maintaining it has become a full-time job. Despite using the approved products (later provided by Howdens), the cleaning process is ineffective, time-consuming, and constant. The finish is wholly unsuitable for a kitchen environment, and at no point prior to purchase were we warned of the high-maintenance nature of this style. Worse still, 13 of the 22 doors were found to have rough or unfinished edges. These defects should clearly fall under Howdens’ commitment to customer satisfaction and 5-year guarantee, but our complaint was dismissed without proper consideration. Both issues have been independently reviewed by the Furniture and Home Improvement Ombudsman, who concluded that the doors had a manufacturing fault and that the matt finish frontals require excessive upkeep. On top of that, we’ve discovered that because our order was processed under a third-party trade account, our name appears nowhere on the documentation—even though we paid Howdens directly by credit card. This lack of transparency means we have no consumer rights and no protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. We were never told that our contract would be with someone else, nor that this would strip us of any legal recourse if something went wrong. After a full year of frustrating correspondence, Howdens offered to replace the doors but wouldn’t cover the labour costs—and only as a full and final settlement, without admitting any fault. Their response has been consistently dismissive, evasive, and unprofessional. We urge anyone considering a Howdens kitchen—particularly the Matt Black Handleless Hockley range—to think twice. The product is not kitchen-appropriate, and if anything goes wrong, you may find yourself with no support, no rights, and no accountability from Howdens.

If you're looking to have your time wasted look no further than Howdens, West Bromwich. the ENTIRE team here is a JOKE. With exception of the warehouse guys. I've actually contacted accounts to have mine closed, how the manager here is even vaguely proud of running this store is beyond me, how his team can be do disjointed is baffling me. I've lost a day and half of productivity just collecting items theyve mis sold or miss off the delivery, the design on the last kitchen i fitted for them was the worst ever. Infact I have refused to now fit Howdens kitchens due to this. Good luck with your purchase and installation.

We had a Howdens kitchen installed less than three years ago, including Howdens' own Rigid Luxury Vinyl Flooring, which was fitted by a Howdens-recommended installer. The flooring is of very poor quality and has developed cracks in several places. Despite the product being within warranty and having been installed correctly, Howdens is refusing to rectify the issue.

Howdens Cambridge thankyou Howdens thankyou Dear George, Ricky, Lorna, Rob, Chris and Julie I just wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you for turning my kitchen purchasing experience around. After a frustrating experience with another branch, I was hesitant to try again, but your team has been absolutely amazing. From the very start, each of you made sure that every step of the process went smoothly, and I truly felt that nothing was too much trouble. I’m thrilled with the kitchen I have, and the fact that it was all ordered and delivered within a week and within my budget is simply fantastic! Thank you again for your hard work and dedication to making this a great experience. I couldn’t be happier! Warm regards, Tricia & Dave PS sorry if I have forgotten anyone

The lenova hob has never worked properly since installation. We can only use 2 out of the 4 jobs otherwise get a clicking noise and a constant on/off action. Spoke to howdens to come and inspect, on arrival they wouldn't touch the unit as we had put a light layer of silicone around the edges to prevent water ingress. Eventually I personally removed the silicone and got them back out, was told that I had removed the glass top from the base and warranty is voided!! The hob has not been touched since installation. Rubbish product and "3 years warranty" unless it breaks because you put a light layer of silicone around the edge. Do not trust this company, spend a bit more and save in the future. Avoid at all costs, go elsewhere

An absolute nightmare from start to finish with Howdens in Havant. Wish I had never used them and absolutely would never recommend to anyone! From the beginning: A one man delivery for a complete kitchen to then having to wait for them to send a another person to help unload the van. A corner cupboard that could not be hung as nothing to attach to. Advised my fitter to baton it, was baton included in delivery? No The cooker could not be fitted, as per design, as the electrics would have to be rerouted as too close to heat. Advised to ‘just move the cooker from one side to the other’. When I called Howdens back to say it was going to cost money to move the electrics and would they ‘as a gesture of goodwill, pay for this’? No it’s your responsibility to make sure the design would allow for the fitting! So now I’m a kitchen designer! Designer suggested hide away bins which cannot be used as they don’t fit in the cupboard. Any offer of refund? No, that’s my fault too! Trims not supplied so then had to order separately and wait for them to be in the store to collect. Tap hole cover missing from box so had to source my own. Drawer unit too close to pantry cupboard so wouldn’t open which meant my fitter had to then move said cupboard to allow drawers to be used. The list just goes on. I made a complaint and asked for a manager call back that never happened only to the receive an email from Steve the manager, no responsibility, look at terms and conditions, design is just an example blah blah blah! Then lastly, the back cooker glass they ordered and delivered doesn’t fit! Returned it Saturday for a refund only to be told as the packaging is torn, cannot give a refund! Of course it is, the fitter opened it to fit it then realised it didn’t fit! Evidently they only do one size and I suppose I should have known that being a kitchen designer! So all in all, nothing but problems since day one! They are a money grabbing, penny pinching company that really don’t care once you’ve handed over your hard earnt cash! They blamed it on me, then the kitchen fitter and took no responsibility for their errors in design at all. They made what should have been a wonderful brand new kitchen install into an absolute nightmare from start to finish. Would never recommend this company to anyone,

Purchased a kitchen and hob from Howdens. The hob is defective and after several calls to Howdens in Llangennech, nothing is happening. The hob is only three months old. Very poor customer care. Brian Francis

Avoid if you can. An on going argument persists over the companies hidden costs. Intimidation into paying immediately up front and then realising that Howdens have your money and no longer care. Huge pressure on the staff to get your order come what may. Please tread carefully.

Never ever Howdens again. Many mistakes, damaged items, a lots of lost time in the shop. cheating sales assistants. All is going well until you pay deposit and nightmare after that. They are loosing customers and now chasing contractors with phone calls, but with this methods they will lose even more.

Paid £9,000 on a marine blue, super matt handless kitchen. It looks beautiful, but with it being super Matt your fingers leave marks all over the doors and it's very difficult to remove the marks even with the spray cleaner which cost me £10 from Howdens. I love my new kitchen but would not recommend the super Matt finish.

Had my kitchen 10 months now, I would not use Howdens again. The sales man was lovely, had lots of great ideas and measured perfectly. Was effecient and replaced things quickly when my fitter found faults. However the quality is dubious. I have a small bubble appear in the worktop near the hob which they have blamed on hot fat splash, which may well be the case, but surely a kitchen worktop should withstand the use it was intended for? One of the drawer sliders is broken through normal use and there is warping to the front of a cupboard door, which they are replacing under warranty. Beautiful kitchen, not perfect, will not use Howdens in future.

Appalling service, second time I have an issue. Originally had fitted bedroom furniture. Only to find you needed a carpenter to make parts of the units. Also design was incorrect leaving gaps / draws wouldn't open etc Second issue is gas hob under warranty, took 14 days for engineer who condemned the hob. Howdens Taunton then told me it could be fixed, then they said it this can only be done, if a gas isolating valve was fitted. I investigated this by removing my oven, to find a gas isolating valve. The engineer clearly didn't do his job properly. By now we are into 30 days of no gas hob. They finally agreed to supply a new gas hob and I would get it fitted. My engineer went to fit it, to find that it was warped and didn't sit flat on the worktop. So I called once again Taunton Howdens to explain its was damaged, their replay was "we will have to get our engineer out" . By this time I had run out of patients and put the phone down. They called me back and agreed to refund me once they had collected the damage hob. This was refunded. Then today I have gone into my howdens account, to find that they have invoiced me for gas hob!!! that I've never had. Unbelievable company. NEVER EVER will I use them.

I’ve had two kitchens from Howdens but I certainly won’t be using them again. The recommended worktop that they were pushing me to have - ‘compacted laminate’ marks very easily. I contacted them about some particular bad marks but because it is outside of the 1 year guarantee, they do not want to know. I’m left with a 2 year old kitchen with marks on the worktop. I would never recommend this company again. I was also very disappointed with the design consultant. I basically had to request extra features such as glass fronted cabinets to brake up the line of cabinets and add interest; as well as the curved edges and built in additions such as microwave and wine fridge. Next time, I will use a more customer focussed company who will have more attention to design, quality and client aftercare.
