We chose Little Folks because it seemed sturdier than other brands we viewed online for a similar price. I'm not sure what makes the beds "for kids" other than the design. Perhaps it's because the slats are solid wood slats and not bouncy like adult single beds? Nonetheless, we are very happy with the purchase. I'm not the most handy and I read reviews that the bed was tricky to put together ("not as easy as Ikea"), but in reality, it was very straightforward. It's sturdy and perfect for our 6-year-old son.
