I learned that while it is rewarding to be a freelance nutrition professional, there are corresponding legal requirements and professional code of conduct to be observed at all times. A freelance nutrition professional is also bound by certain regulations in the conduct of their profession, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) which ensures compliance with data protection laws, as well as the UK GDPR, which sets out principles for lawfully processing personal data. The UK GDPR email newsletter example gave me a valuable insight into sending an email newsletter subscription form to target recipients, following specific procedures and ensuring that privacy policies are in place. I also learned that I should place a cookie policy on my website in order to avoid penalty and further legal action. I have learned that a booking policy will make the transaction with clients clearer and more transparent. Moreover, the session made me aware of the legal considerations of freelance nutrition professionals. The session gave me an initial awareness of the necessary procedures that must be observed when one decides to become a freelance nutrition professional. HOW COULD I APPLY THIS TO MY PRACTICE? I could apply this to my practice by being compliant with the existing laws and regulations surrounding the freelance nutrition profession when I decide to be one myself. No. Marketing Essentials A Reflection WHAT DID I LEARN? I learned that defining a marketing plan requires certain steps to follow as these are crucial in defining a proposition. It is also noteworthy to ensure that there is demand in the areas I want to specialise in. The need to understand my clients also made me learn the importance of developing insights about them. The session made a good point of indicating that developing client personas, which are based on market research, will help me understand my clients. Moreover, the topic about digital marketing was as informative. It highlighted marketing mix channels that can help the business grow and even allow tracking the ROI. I was reminded of the importance of choosing the kind of content that I should use. The session enlightened me on which marketing channel I should adopt and the reason why I am adopting it: whether it is to facilitate awareness, engage the clients, or convert them into making an informed purchase decision. I also learned that I should make an effort to market my services by using either PPC, SEO, SEM, funnel, or keyword, to name a few. The session also amplified my awareness of the need to utilise social media strategy for the business. I also learned that by building my online presence, focusing on bio and visuals, content, and strategy is necessary. HOW COULD I APPLY THIS TO MY PRACTICE? I could apply this to my practice by translating all the details I learned to my future business that requires online presence.
