Literally years ago, I went to Old Boot in London (when there was still a showroom there) to look at their sofas; I was after an extremely well-constructed sofa that uses dowelling, and had a certain vibe. I was especially interested in their Chesterfields actually - that's how I found their website in the first place. I LOVED the sofas, and the staff were very helpful whilst not being pushy, but I wasn't in the financial situation to go forward. Fast forward to now, and I'm ready. I've looked at so many sofas in the interim - none that compare nor have the same vibe. There's no showroom in London anymore. I drive, therefore, up to the showroom in Matlock with my family to better choose a sofa - totally worth it.
My experience was the same - the sofas are lovely. The staff are super helpful but zero pressure. I was able to spend hours looking at the different sofas and also the different leather options, and really just take my time thinking about the type of leather etc.
Having gone in for Chesterfields, I ended up going for the Hepburn style with studding. Old Boot have trimmed down on their options for the sofa filling, but I think that's a good thing actually.
I ended up choosing, in Hepburn, a standard two seater, four seater, and a 'cuddler', all in Hobnail Leather Graphite with wooden feet rather than the wheels.
I went whilst Old Boot were having a sale and I feel I really got an amazing bargain for these sofas. They make them post order in their workshop.
It took about eight weeks and we were quoted eight to ten weeks. I paid half upfront and then the other half once the sofas were said to be ready.
They are then given to a delivery company, who I think have their own delivery scheduling (just something to be aware of as this is outside of the scheduling set by Old Boot, which I don't think I had appreciated at the time of order) but this company contacted us within a reasonable time frame and delivered the sofas within a reasonable time frame.
As part of the ordering process I actually sent the floor plan of my house to the Old Boot team to find out whether there would be any issues with getting these sofas into the rooms I wanted them in. I was actually most worried about the Cuddler, which is the smallest one, because it had to go through a slim corridor to reach its destination. They were able to be really reassuring it would be easy for them to be delivered so I had no anxiety over the delivery (whereas if I had tried to make the judgement myself I'm not sure how I would have managed this). The sofas come with no feet attached and the delivery team put them together in the right location, so that definitely helps.
The delivery team were great.
And as for the sofas. Oh my gosh. I had very high expectations, but they're still so much better than I thought they would be. They are SO MUCH MORE comfortable than I thought they would be, based on sitting on the showroom sofas, which I think have seen a lot of wear but are still good enough, you know? They are soooooo comfortable. The leather is STUNNING. The smell is glorious. I think the leather is very soft (but resilient!) and the sofas will develop a 'creased' look very quickly; that's no issue for me as that's the kind of sofa they are and clear from the showroom options, too.
I would say the website doesn't really capture the colour of hobnail graphite accurately. There is definitely a cool-toned taupe undertone to it, which softens it away from being a true 'black'. It's much closer to a brown, which you wouldn't know from the website. I knew it from seeing the leather in person. It's just stunning. Oh that reminds me, Old Boot will give you leather samples to take home with you; I would highly recommend getting them to help you with your choice.
I also looooove the studding. They ensure the sofas have the vibe I was going for. The sofas are beautiful, and so beautifully constructed. I am very happy and I am hopeful that they will last very well.
Thanks Old Boot Sofa!!! I've attached a couple of photos of two of the sofas just so you get the idea.
