8 hours and still waiting. They are due out at 2:20 am. There last message to me says they should have already been here. Literally the worst service I have ever seen.

We broke down and in total waited 11hrs for our car to be uplifted and no recovery truck arrived. We are 83 and 79yrs old and after numerous calls to RAC on 14th September they eventually arranged for us to be taken home by taxi. It was 12pm and we arrived home at 1am having left our car to be picked up that night. The car hadn't been collected at 9am and we were offered £150 by a woman called Marva in the RAC recovery department to arrange our own collection from 60 miles away. It cost us £200 and RAC agreed to reimburse us. It is now 3rd October and despite several emails we still have not received any payment. They are a truly dreadful organisation to deal with, and trying to speak to someone is extremely time consuming and frustrating. We were kept waiting for 27mins while the operator in breakdown customer services looked into our case and said someone would call us to arrange the payment. Needless to say the call still hasn't come!!! We can quite understand that people get abusive while going through all the rigmarole of trying to get assistance, it is so difficult to get through to anyone and you just end up getting stressed out. So we are still waiting to get our money back.

Absolutely dreadfull, do not think about signing up if you values your sanity. I broke down in my classic car and they did everything to not attend. Firstly they told me to call the emergency services because I broke down on a road and it was too dangerous for the engineer to attend. I was on a minor A road in Devon with little traffic... Secondly they said my car was not MOT'd so they would not attend. The car is MOT exempt and fully road legal. When I argued this they demanded documents that do not exist and if they did would be impossible to get hold of whilst stuck at the side of the road. The DVLA website they were using clearly showed the car was fully road legal but the call handler would not accept that. After 10 minutes of this , baring in mind I was supposedly in a dangerous situation, he announced he was canceling the call which resulted in me uttering a single swear word as he hung up on me. To make matters worse , whilst I was trying to push the car to safety I got a call from the RAC to tell me off and to say my call was cancelled because I had used a single unacceptable word. Needless to say I exploded at him (I am normally a very calm person). I have wriiten in to formally complain and demand my money back but have responded by saying they will answer me in 8 Weeks. The next step is the FCA ...

If I could leave a minus star review I would. Yes I was an idiot I put the wrong fuel in my car. Called the RAC and was informed that as it was a “personal error” I would need to pay almost £250 extra for the fuel recovery. They took my money and sent me texts to say help was on the way. Website said within 2 hours. ThenI get a call to say they weren’t coming and their partners weren’t coming either!!! They offered to transport me 10 miles down the road! That still 60 miles from my home! They can’t give me my money back straight away and it could take 5 days! Meanwhile they are still texting to say help is on the way. Please don’t join this shower. It’s a rip off.

DON’T USE RAC - Absolutely disgusting unprofessional service!!!!!. Spoke to a very very angry aggressive woman on a Sunday morning and asked for a refund and said I already cancelled my membership twice and she started moaning and being very aggressive’. She was completely insane and refused to help after the RAC had taken £300 from my account yet again this year without permission. I am now having to contact a solicitor to get this cancelled. RAC are now owned by another company who are happy to take your money even though you’ve cancelled your membership, I have no standing order with them or direct debit and never authorised ongoing payments! Don’t use RAC anymore, absolute crooks who employ aggressive and extremely rude customer service people!!

Absolutely appalling. Broke down and waited nearly 6 hours. I kept calling only to be told help was on its way. Help never came. After 5 hours I called again and was told by the call taker my vehicle did not have a valid MOT and I would need to pay nearly £80 !!!! My vehicle was fully MOTd and I have had terrible trouble trying to get my money back. Disgusting service and would not recommend

I reported the incidents. Had no updates. Waited three hours and instead of apologising breakdown guy said it was lucky it wasn’t five hours. My car has been taken to a garage which has no record of it being there.

Be very careful when changing cars early or mid term of your contract....even if you go for a smaller car, smaller engine, they will re-quote for a full year. They will charge you for amending your policy (administration costs ha!). They provided me with a new quote £16 per month more than the current monthly amount. I decided to cancel to find a cheaper deal and I had to pay over £50 for the pleasure. The moral of the story is, if you're changing cars, do it at the end of your contract or they will fleece you.

Break down reported around 11am Gloucester. Arrived home at Southampton 1.30 AM. Originally offered FIVE relays to get home. I guess they do what they say ...RAC RELAY. Relayed three times (eventually) but last driver was tired. His van was full of Red Bull. I had to stop him from missing our exit at a roundabout. Poor guy started at 4AM, left me at 1.30 AM to go to another breakdown. He was due to finish at 4AM after completing a 24 hour shift. I complained to the RAC only to receive the standard "sorry" with an offer of £75. Not happy, NOT SAFE.

DISGRACEFUL TREATMENT OF A 93 YEAR OLD Sunday 24th September near Menai Bridge Anglesey, I stopped to help a 93 year gentleman whose battery had gone flat. He’d tried to phone RAC 3 or 4 times each time he was told to log breakdown on line. This couldn’t do so was getting distressed. I rang on my phone and was savvy enough to wait long enough for an operator to answer, they were told of situation A vulnerable 93 year old stuck at a junction and distressed.. they would not give any indication as to time to wait and in fact told me to get off line as it was an emergency line. Disgraceful service and discriminatory to those not on line. I complained on line and was told i needed his car number e mail address and phone number. He was a stranger to me who just needed help The guy was 93. Get your act together Date of experience: 24 September 2023

Absolutely awful I logged my breakdown at 1pm on Friday and they said they will be with me between 45 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. I understand Fridays might be a bit busier but it wasn’t rush hour time I monitored their arrival time but it kept pushing back the time 5 hours later and they still hadn’t arrived and the monitored time of arrival was going to be at least another couple of hours and it was now into rush hour traffic I tried calling RAC many many times to see what the problem was but not once did they answer their phones even after waiting absolutely ages each time Luckily I was in a safe and secure area. I can’t imagine how stressful it would have been waiting at the side of a motorway for more than 5 hours There was no way I could wait at least another 2 hours as I wasn’t convinced RAC would ever arrive I called the AA to see if they would let me join straight away and what their estimated rescue time would be and they said within the hour even though it was now into Friday rush hour time I immediately joined the AA and they arrived within the hour as quoted AA fixed the problem and I was on my way There is absolutely no way I will ever use RAC again and reading hundreds of other reviews about them I can’t believe they are still in business as the service is shocking Even if you get a low cost membership with RAC or it’s included free with your car insurance etc please don’t rely on it. It’s cheap, or free, for a reason! AA might be more expensive but, in this case, you definitely get what you pay for Please please please don’t get RAC membership as you will regret it. Go with the AA and get proper breakdown cover

Awful. Automated service response-said elderly parents would have to wait 7.5 hours to be recovered, then it changed saying recovery would arrive by 5pm still waiting at 6pm, 3 hours after first request. Ended up getting the bus home. Leaving car behind having waited 4 hours. To start again the next day. Wouldn't be recommending RAC any time soon

RAC Racist. This car breakdown cover is useless. They only support people whom they like. I am covered by RAC breakdown cover with my More Than car insurance but when I broke down RAC refused to come to my rescue. They asked me to pay them £161.50 before they would come. I explained them that I am covered but they told me they don't care. I do not recommend anyone to join RAC. Thanks

my first year with RAC will be my last ........and would never recommend to anyone !! After an hour and a half dentist appointment which left me sore and in pain I discovered a nail in my tyre and being an mature lady called RAC to help......4.18pm when I reported, the text of time for RAC came through then another then another when it got to arrival time for 8.45 to 10.45 I called again to explained I was a woman on my own ....it was dark and I was in pain. The answer I got was "go get medical help then return to the vehicle" after which another text came through with time extended to 9.42-11.42pm REALLY !! cancelled booking and will be cancelling my contract when they year I have paid for is complete.

Called the RAC at 8pm and van arrived at 9pm ( a good start I felt) to be told it couldn’t be repaired and so I needed to be recovered home which was fine. At 12am a truck arrived and took me half way home, leaving me at another service station as the driver was not allowed to go further due to miles driven ( a fact the driver disputed as he said he was straight off on another job so I had clearly been lied to). At 4.30 am I was still sat there and told they could not get a driver until later that day. So 7. 5 hours after being told I would be recovered, I was being told I could not be taken home. I then spent 5 mins on the web and found a local company who arrived within 2 hours and took me home. The RAC had said they had tried all their contractors and could not get a driver but I found one within 5 minutes. Appalling

Absolutely appalling service. I waited over 6 hours for recovery. Communication was dreadful. Got texts about every hour and ETA kept getting pushed back. Eventually spoke to Simon from RAC who said he would phone me back with ETA-he didn't. Horrendous experience. I will be looking for another breakdown service

My father is still stuck 2.5 hours away and has been since 17:00. It’s now 22:15. RAC are not even bothering to pick up his calls after multiple efforts to get hold of them. Don’t know when he’ll be home. RAC - maybe take those other negative reviews as a hint…though I don’t expect much from you.
