Make: BMW X5 2016 The vehicle originally had a burst tyre in Snowdonia National Park on Monday 31st August 2010 and as it was a run flat tyre I managed to drive it to Barmouth town locally in the area without heavy damage to any wheels, just tyre. Unable to find any available replacement tyres, I managed to find a safe place to park the vehicle. We have motor breakdown assistance with HSBC Advance and used the service to arrange a recovery, the call was forwarded to the RAC who acted on behalf of HSBC. I made my first call at approx. 3.30pm to HSBC / RAC who advised they would send a recovery truck and arrange for us to return back to Wolverhampton, with my wife and 2 children. On waiting 2 hours and approx. After making an additional 3 calls I was advised no recovery vehicle were available and offered a taxi service return to Wolverhampton which I took. The vehicle was promised to me by the RAC on Tuesday 1st September 2010. When not received and no communication I called RAC who advised delivery on Wednesday 2nd September. I was then called another 3rd party recovery team to advise my car was involved in a rear end fire, the cause of this was not specified at the time. On a return call when I questioned the cause as it a 2016 car in excellent condition, I was then advised the recovery vehicle has another breakdown to the rear of the truck, this car had caught fire causing major fire damage to the rear of my car. Been advised car is stuck in Gear (Park) and not moveable. The cost to me is a daily cost of £27.00 in taxi charges to work, arranging for my children to be sent to school this week without transport. This has cost me stupid amount of stress and inconvenience as well as money. I have taken time off my workplace to make phone calls and arrange collection of my belongings from the car. I am now without a car for a period I am unsure about and really upset with feedback I received from the RAC call centre where I got the response 'I am very sorry and have not heard of anything like this before' from the manager at the time named Jas, I was also advised she could not handle this case and to send a message to breakdown customer care via email. As you can imagine it was not the answer I was looking for. I also advised the RAC call center manager I request a letter to advise of responsibility for the damage from the RAC and have heard nothing back at all. The service to date received has been very poor. To advise I was not unaware that the RAC had sent a 3 rd party to collect the vehicle and did not give permission for this to be arranged. It is now the 6th October... No car as with CoParts waiting assessment for damage and the RAC have done NOTHING. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. I have no car as my insurance did not cover me for a courtesy car although this was not my fault.

I've been trying to get help on breakdown for an hour and a half. Last woman hung up on me when I asked her not to interrupt me. Marooned and no help. Last time I broke down it was 18 hours before they came.

I would have 0 but I couldn’t. I have been with rac since 2013. 2 years ago I had a new battery supplied and fitted by them as they said my one was faulty. It came with a 5 year guarantee. Last week they came out as my battery was flat. I was asked to wait indoors due to social distancing. 10 minutes later there was a knock at the door and the patrol told me warranty wasn’t valid as my battery wasn’t faulty. He then told me he had fitted a new one and I owed £120! If my old battery wasn’t faulty why did I need a new one. I complained but was brushed off with rubbish. I won’t be staying with rac anymore. RIP off merchants!!

RAC Disgusting service RAC - Disgusting service, daughter called today at 12.30 stuck on hard shoulder on M25 on her own with a baby at the time of writing this 4hours have passed and still no attendance, she has now been advised they are sending a 3rd party to attend. 4hours standing up on a bank with a baby with traffic whizzing by at speed. Certainly won’t be using or recommending other than don’t bother with the RAC

Broke down, cold dark night, lone female and was told there was a 3/4 hour wait. My battery had died and my window was open hence the cold. Got a couple of nice guys to start it using jump leads and cancelled the apt. Won’t renew with them next year .

We have been members for over 10 years and have all ways had good service. We had 2 motor bikes to begin with. And now a car and tow a caravan.our latest call out was on Sunday on our way home from holiday towing the caravan, the car lost power and the engine management sign came on, not good. We called the rac and was asked if we were in a safe place as we had managed to pull of the road (a47)but not in a good place. We were told it could be 3to4 hours before someone could get to us, but after only 20 minutes the rac patrol text to say he would be 30to40 minutes and after a call 30 minutes later to check we were ok and were we were exactly he arrived 10 minutes later. He was very helpfull and put us at ease. We were told the car was ok to drive but to get it looked at Asap. He was very good at his job and gave us peace of mind to carry on as towing a caravan can be stressful sometimes. We would not hesitate to recommend the rac going on our own experience with the bikes and the car.

Yesterday my wife’s car broke down in Colchester at 3pm. She was 2 hours away from home. It took 5.5 hours to get a recovery truck to her only for them to take the car but leave her there on the side of the road due to “Covid” . Despite multiple calls to RAC requesting to get her a taxi home none arrived . By 10 pm after 7 hours waiting for a recovery tow truck and then a taxi ( on Colchester high street) she was forced to find a hotel room for the night, walk to it and pay for it herself. You left a lone woman scared and worried by the roadside for 7 hours because you couldn’t manage to book a taxi for her ? Your disregard of any type of suitable service to your customers is only bested by your complete disregard for her their safety and well being . In other news the second tow truck was unable to collect the car from the transfer pick up spot because the keys were no where to be found . We will be taking this complaint to the highest authority available including the media . Your service is not only extremely inadequate but also a danger to your customers safety and well being . Shameful .

Droke down today I'm our motorhome on the way to Norfolk. Tel at 2 & was told90 mins then a young girl rang back to tell us it would be 5hrs. What sort of service is that. I am now having to call a tow truck to get me off the side of the main road. Guess I will be switching to the AA come November

save a long story the rac damaged my engine. The cost of repair is over £10000 they have admitted to some damage and they shouldn't have jumpstart it on a tow bar which they did ( apparently the recovery driver told us the damage it might have cause if he did it and the what could happen) but the recovery did not tell us anything about it might cause damage and did it anyway. If they had told us the dangers it might cause and what could go wrong, then we would not have let him do it) all the recovery driver said was, I'm going to try jumping it and told us what to do. Nothing elsemThey've only offered £3500 that's not even half of what they should be paying. Will never go back to them. Don't bother wasting your time, they'll only make the issue worse.

Switched to RAC from AA while at Barclays Bank, who proudly sold me the idea, savings & simplicity of switching... more than a year later needed help for the first time with a flat battery. My partner had been waiting outside Yeovil hospital for four hours to take me home, but I was unexpectedly kept in for observation overnight. Called RAC explaining situation, long before I knew I’d be staying, they were going to prioritize as “medical emergency”. Just like many of the previous unsatisfied customers below, I had one 45 mins and 3 “arriving in 30 min texts”, last one being “arriving in 70 mins”! Eventually had a call exactly 4 hours later. Having lost confidence in their ability to coordinate their patrols after three hours, we arranged help from friends to jump start the car. My partner was home in bed when I had the call in hospital that the RAC was nearby. Bad, bad service, although I imagine the patrols are probably capable & professional - unlike the team of coordinators. I have to go back to the AA. Just why are Barclays actively promoting the RAC? That’s a rhetorical question.

I had left my lights on and drained my battery so called RAC. The patrol man was rude to me saying it was "my fault" ...I know it was but these things happen and I was shocked that he was so rude, after all I didn't do it intentionally! He told me that because I'd left my lights on I'd damaged my battery and would need to replace it. He put it on charge for 15mins then told me it had failed the test. However I was suspicious and said no, I would not buy a new battery as mine was only a few months old - I've been driving nearly 40 years and have had flat batteries before in the past and just had a jump start with no further problems. I went back indoors after thinking he had finished, then 10 mins later he was still on my drive and rang me on my mobile asking me to go back outside and offered me 40% discount on a new battery. I once again said no ...I felt very uncomfortable to be honest. I then did a Google search after he'd gone and found that Watchdog had done a report on RAC a few years ago for getting people to buy a new battery when it wasn't necessary. Looks like they are still trying to do this!! My car is now running fine after taking it for a nice long drive straight after.

Had a flat tyre while taking my 2 small grandkids away for week end. Unfortunately I havent learnt how to change the tyre ( I have since) rung at 3.30 told I was in luck someone would be there in 90 minutes. After waiting 90 minutes and 2 small grandkids wanting a wee got a text saying another 45 mins. Then after 30 mins I rung them explaining my situation they said would try to get someone there within next 90 mins. They suggested to knock on a door to see if my grandkids could use a loo.... der covid! I went to shop 10 mins away although they said I couldnt leave car. Luckily a young gent from local kwik fit store drove past and stopped and changed tyre for me. RAC man arrived as last bolt went in. Too be far the RAC chaps are lovely blokes. And last time I broke down I waited 10 hours ... yes you heard right. Going to cancel my membership right now and go back to green flag. If RAC are in that much demand how about employing more breakdown recovery men. Or risk losing people's money and membership

6 hours ago i phoned and still no mechanic. I've been paying for this for years, over £20- a month and can't remember the last time i used them. I had a call over an hour ago from their special intervention team and they assured me that he would be with me in 34 minutes. He's just phoned to say that he's an hour away so she lied to me before?! I will definitely be cancelling and changing to another breakdown provider! If i could give zero stars i would!
