Been waiting 8 hours for ‘roadside assistance’. Single woman , freezing cold ... long time ( 35 years) member... makes no difference obviously. Fuming doesn’t even describe it. Going to cancel membership with great joy.

Unlucky to have broken down and put my RAC cover to the test. Promised a callout within 90 mins. Car was in a very busy spot causing travel disruption. They eventually arrived 3 hrs later!! Dreadful service.

Arranged a car inspection check prior to buying a used car. RAC did not give correct information re cancellation rights. Then failed to confirm the appointment with the vendor resulting in the car being sold to another buyer. When I asked for the £240 fee refund they abruptly refused with an irritated tone in their letter. Until the RAC treat customers as customers there will continue to be regular poor experience complaints.

These people are a joke with a catch phrase of there being a waiting time of 1.5hrs or sometimes they jazz It up by saying 90mins as if that is some improvement. Alas this is a lie which they keep repeating. After numerous calls to their (help!)desk including one lasting 45mins which resulted in nothing constructive with the operator saying they needed to terminate the call as they had to answer other breakdown calls... no doubt to tell them it'll be 1.5hours wait ! One call was to tell them my phone battery was v.low and needed to give them an alternative number from my passenger. They ignored this vital communication change. For me it was 5.5hours before RAC responded, it was also by then 2.30am

Attempted to contact RAC several times regarding a general query. Having gone through the automated responses am told very busy and cut off. Clearly insufficient staff. Utterly useless. I hope the poor souls who have broken down receive a better service than this.

What a useless shower! They lie and make false promises which they know they will never keep even as they speak! I was told that I was a “high priority” caller as I was a lone female and had a young daughter stranded at school waiting to be to picked up. In addition to this my phone battery was at 15%. It still took them 4 hours to come out to me. I would give them no stars if I could. I would never want cover from them again. Stay away from them.

I was at home and I had a flat tyre both front and back on the driver side, somehow I managed to take one out and another one was quite tight plus wheel nut was slipping out. I called them and asked for help since I had home break down cover as well, I phoned them waited around 40 mins on the phone they passed around here and there finally someone said yes how can I help I explained them and clearly said I just want one wheel lock nut off that's it because I want the car for tommrow, the operator said ummm since you not car using tonight find a local mechanic and fixed yourself and I answered why do I have a breakdown cover if you can't fixed I have broken down in front of my driveway, what's the point than? And trust she was trying her best not send the mechanic and lastly found a excuse oh your breakdown covers one flat tyre since you took that out another is not our problem, call your insurance company as if I had an accident. Ridiculous idiot need to be trained properly.

After breaking down I called the RAC and the mechanic turned up in a reasonable time. After he had looked at the car he spent the next 20 minutes sitting in his van talking on the phone to the office. When he had finished talking he told me that the car couldn't be repaired at the roadside and offered to tow me home. The next day I realised that, on my policy, I had the option of a rental car from the RAC, but as this was a Saturday and I didn't need a car over the weekend I decided to leave it until Monday to arrange the car rental. When I called the RAC to arrange the car rental I was told, firstly, by the RAC operative, and then by the manager, that because I hadn't asked for this in the first 24 hours, that I wasn't entitled to the free car rental, and it said this in their 'terms and conditions' I pointed out to them that at the time it hadn't occurred to me, and that why hadn't the guy that had turned up at the breakdown not informed me of this. I was given short shrift and they just reiterated that it was in their 'terms and conditions' which I, now, realise is shorthand for 'small print. I will not be renewing my membership for myself and other members of my family when it is due for renewal. Also, I will be advising friends and relatives of my experience with the RAC, and recommending they, also, should reconsider their membership. Likewise, I will be advising other people I come into contact with to do the same.

After breaking down I called the RAC, who turned up in a reasonable time. The mechanic had a look at the car, and after sitting in his van for about 20 minutes on the phone to office, told me that my car couldn't be repaired at the roadside and offered to tow me to my house. He didn't inform me that I had the option to have a rental car while my car was being repaired. When I realised that I had the opportunity to get a rental car, and as this was a Friday and I didn't need my car over the weekend, I decided to call the RAC on Monday morning to arrange for the rental car. I was told that, because I hadn't done this in the first 24 hours, I wasn't eligible to get one anymore. She said that it was in their 'terms and conditions'. She spoke to her manager who told me the same thing. Their terms and conditions is shorthand for ' small print ' and they were totally inflexible, even though I informed them that, surely, the mechanic that came out to my breakdown could have informed me of this '24 hour' rule, and also reminded me that I was, indeed, eligible for a rental car. They, certainly won't be getting any business from me when my policy is due for renewal, or from the 2 other people on my policy. I will, also, be advising my friends and family to do the same. They were totally inflexible and just kept quoting me their 'terms and conditions'

The worst customer service I have ever encountered. They have trained monkeys to do better job. - Staff are unprofessional and take no responsibility keep passing it back and forth between members. Have a very poor level of communication, arrogant beyond all compare. Ive dealt with many companies in the past and this has to be one of the worse. Happy to take your money to get someone out - they take advantage of vulnerable situation Save your money and your time and go elsewhere.

Please read - your safety could depend on it ! you buy breakdown cover in the event that you one day may need it. For me, that day was yesterday. We broke-down on a corner of a very busy small lane which was dark . I called them at 6pm. said they would said someone with me at 6.45 pm, patrol didn't show up. This was then a continued chain of events until 12.30 am when I just gave up in the end. I had a small child with me and I have a medical issue which they were informed about. Their operatives just lie, lie and lie again to get you off the phone. They just left us in a very vulnerable position and didn't care. Utterly shocking and inhuman service. They just fill you with false hope all the time. They never call you back when they say they would. Truly an appalling service ! When I went back to the car the following morning and eventually got an RAC patrol they said this is now common place. Customers are just lied to and left in a never ending call system.

Phoned them at 5pm when I broke down on M42 this evening. Waited approx 1 hour for chap to arrive, who couldn't fix the issue. Got towed to Warwick services where my car was loaded onto a private flatbed truck & taken to Cherwell Valley Services. I was dumped here at 8pm & am still waiting for an onward vehicle. Apparently it won't arrive until 9.30-10pm, even though I am a lone female with health issues. I've been waiting for a call back from a manager as this is an appalling service, but guess what, that hasnt happened. All this for a 70 mile trip home. Defo won't renew next year.

Called R.A.C today and explained that my car was in a multi-story car park. Pointed out to the operator that there was no mobile coverage within the car park so I would not be able to take any calls if l was with my vehicle. I gave the name of the carpark. It's location but not the postcode. Which floor l was on and the aisle. I was told ut would be a 90 minute wait. After waiting 2 hours l called back to be informed my call-out had been cancelled due to the mechanic not getting a reply from me when he tried calling my mobile!? Waited a further hour for a mechanic to arrive who then informed me he had been to several other car-parks first because he had not been given the location information l had provided. I might have still been there waiting had l not called back. Very poor comunication.

Following on from LONG wait times and my promise to find out why this outfit seems so under resourced. First Info. ...You will all have seen RAC agents flogging membership in places like Asda..Sainsburys...Morrisons etc. Did you know that these are self employed Direct Sales Agents. For every £120s worth of policy they sell they keep £96 YES that's correct !! SOURCE ...RSW Recruiting. So...that's only £24 to RAC.. So now you know it's all about SALES. NOT Service. Further Info will follow after studying Annual Report and scrutinising Audit More to Follow.
