“Went in to the acocks green store last week with my 16 year old son & 17 month old daughter. The lady on the till, Rea did not acknowledge me, she didn't look up she didn't register that we were there. Once I had loaded the conveyor belt which included 2 bottles of wine and walked to her til she said 'have you ID?' I said excuse me I am 34 and this is my son, she said 'I don't care I need ID'. I was really upset with her customer service and we started to argue as I pulled out my drivers licence, my son naturally became agitated and told her to watch her mouth. She jumped up from her seat and started punching her hand and raising her voice. She was quickly pulled away but I am fuming. My daughter was in the trolley at the till. I called head office to complain who were reasonable over the phone and assured me it would be dealt with but my information & contact details were not taken. I hope she's sacked”
“That's okay but what about the dreadful checkouts and the only positive reviews being put on here by staff members mostly. Of course the previous one could be genuine but the way it is written seems to suggest otherwise. Fresh produce mostly comes from within this country. I know this because a friend is in the supply industry. It is, in the main, ok quality as aldi are very fussy. However, the same cannot be said for their other products which of course are not good quality at all. Cheap food stuffs will always denote poor quality. It is how it works and there is no way it can ever be otherwise. Customer service is generally poor and watch out for the returns fiasco in many cases. If you like to shop quickly and get out quickly, not caring about too fast checkout speeds, then great, this is the company for you. If not then go elsewhere.”
“Yes. The wrongly priced wrong position trick. You think you have paid, say, £1:50 but have actually paid, for example, £2. I dislike aldi a great deal, but have to say they are not alone in this nasty practice to which they will always plead innocence. I went into my local store, not for myself mind you but as a special favour for a dear friend, to buy some bread machine bread mix. One bag of brown and one of white. Ok, they were only 59p compared to Wrights for £1. The brown was an utter disgrace. Yes, the correct amount of water was used. It was seriously heavy and somewhat dampish. It seems the Germans like heavy dense bread, but this is England for goodness sake. The white wasn't damp but so light it was almost impossible to cut and simply squashed up. For me it simply confirmed the quality of this company's own products, cheap and nasty. To those who say otherwise, well....good luck.”
“Today punched 1kg loin of vacuum packed loin of pork. Once removed from the packaging actually weighed 959grms. Packaging should not be included in the net weight of the meat.”
“Strange thing. I sometimes use this last resort chain for one or two items only and would not dream of using it for anything else. Asking around people I know it turns out they all do likewise, just one or two items only. When I ask why it is for a variety of reasons, two of which I will list here. Fresh produce they mainly leave alone because of the lack of "use by" and "best before" dates. Although some items do have an obscure coding so staff know. Actually these can be found online. Next is untidiness. Next are the checkouts being ludicrously fast.”
“Dessert Menu - Profiterole -
Awful - not enough profiterole and far too much sauce, contains alcohol, which was disappointing and couldn't give to the children but they probably wouldn't have liked them anyway.”
“Another staff posting I see, possibly management even. To say that these stores are disabled friendly really gives the game away! It is well known by all and sundry that Aldi stores are not at all disabled friendly or anyone less able and/or elderly and not so quick. Convenient layout? Come on, we all know that this is simply not so. Nothing here about their quality. I agree "some" things are ok and of reasonable quality, but these tend to be chocolate bars and the like and not nourishing "real" food.”
“Me gusta Aldi y sus productos, acabo de salir del supermercado y por primera vez en 7 años encontré una cajera desagradable que ni siquiera saludó y su cara refleja total frustración, fue muy desagradable intercambiar con ella. Una papa podrida es mejor quitarla del grupo antes que contamine a las demás.”
“I more or less agree with Rich apart from one or two things. These stores are a nightmare to navigate and shelf fillers are always somewhere getting in your way in their awfully narrow walkways. Checkouts? Don't even go there! I like the person who asked...."Will Aldi go too when we leave the EU".”
“To save £3000 in one year by shopping at Aldi is surely some sort of record. It amounts to around £60 each week. I don't understand this to be honest and think it must be a typo. Nevertheless you are correct about the staff in these stores, by and large. Some are ok but most are not. I am wondering when we leave the EU if Aldi will go too.”
“You are quite correct. Aldi are slipping price increases in by stealth, now they have people believing they offer quality for peanuts. It simply cannot be done. You are right too about the dreadful narrow aisles through some of their atomically powered checkouts. What they need are those trollies like Tesco have that check what you buy as you put it in your trolley. You can even pay the same way!! GREAT for all those poor people who simply cannot keep up with their speed artists. I watched the other day as a woman refused to use the annoying packing shelves in my local Aldi and packed at the checkout, much to the annoyance of the checkout female. No matter how fast she went the woman kept pace with her packing. WELL DONE whoever you were. I plan to do the same soon.”
“Yes, they did do fairly well over the Christmas period. However, this does not mean that it was the quality of their products that made this possible but the cheapness of them. In an age when many people have to count their pennies they are prepared to shun quality for prices. Lidl works the same way too although the quality at their stores is of course slightly better. Oh, and they do not operate unfair checkouts either.”
“I find it strange that the previous review awarded aldi three stars. Nothing nice to say really but three stars. Pallets of stock in the way is a day to day occurrence in these stores. Yes, staff are pressurised but no excuse really for bad response when asked for a new checkout to be opened. Aldi pay over the odds and it is this that attracts new recruits. They are a shockingly nasty company to work for and staff turnover is high. No surprises why. Whether stock is good value is highly debatable. Certainly not unbranded items. One does get what one pays for. Then of course, like other reviewers, there is the terrible policy of SPEED at checkouts come what may. It makes no difference how infirm or old you may be. Like somebody else said, this policy can be reversed, but it seems that not enough customers care enough to do so. SIGH. Happy 2019 then.”
“Really annoyed with the otherwise great Aldi's appalling delivery service - don't bother with it - it's worse than hermes! (perhaps it's being fulfilled by hermes)”
“Well all supermarkets will do that so nothing spectacular about Aldi doing so. It really isn't a one off for that single store. Christmas is here once again and we will all be ripped off wherever we go. I do hope that in 2019 Aldi will change their disgraceful policy towards the elderly and less able at their dreadful checkouts. They should not be simply for those who are able to keep up with them. We, the public, have it within our power to force Aldi to change their attitude and stop their high speed checkouts. Doesn't anyone care at all? No good stating that the staff have no choice other than to carry out their instructions. They do. They can refuse to do so or leave. It is a company policy that affects all within, per instructions. Come on!! Have some feeling for those less able. COMPLAIN ON HERE. Aldi do frequent this site with false positive reviews at times and they do read the comments. Doesn't anyone recall when we cared for each other?”
“And so you should be. Their loss eh. Bit like Ebay or Amazon saying they won't deliver to any address other than your registered billing one. They wouldn't do much business would they. I use this and other online services who are only too happy to send to addresses other than my billing one so long as I pay. Typical of this company but not at all surprising. The motto? Stay away from them.”
“I just tried to order Christmas Hampers from Aldi and had problems with the payment on the site. I then phoned to be told I could not place the order because my billing address was in the Channel Islands. I can understand that they won’t deliver there but I wanted the hampers sent to London.
Totally disgusted.”
“Oh yes. I agree with that about sell by dates. Do hope you took back and not just moan on here. Aldi, like any other cheap supermarket with a couldn't care less attitude, will have it's share of such things. Staff under extreme pressure at Aldi. They pay over the odds to them and it is for this reason I am sure that staff tend to stay. Not all though. Some leave to lead a less stressful life where they can treat people with decency, especially the elderly and less able. There seem to be people who simply do not care about this practice who frequent this review site, heaping praise upon aldi with great gusto. That's okay. One day we all will be older, and let's hope they recall their denial and not caring attitude when they too are struggling at the checkout. Doubt aldi will still be around then though. I have never spoken to anyone who goes to aldi who is not aware of this dreadful situation, but they still go there. Strange huh. I'm alright Jack? Probably. I agree that aldi are for people on low incomes who have little choice. Seems to be a quite common feeling on here. Anyway people, next time you see an elderly person struggling to keep pace in any aldi store, PLEASE speak up for them.”
“I did my shopping at Aldi Ludlow and one item was set a soupreme tomato and basil soup and two days later I go to use it and it's 21 days out of date .”
“The correct thing to do with complaints about any hygiene issue with them is NEVER ask to see any management staff member. They will not only be non interested but will for certain know nothing whatsoever about consumer law. Go instead to your local "trading standards" initially and let them handle it. Make certain you have the correct store and ALSO your receipt. If you must ask to see the manager make CERTAIN you get his/her name, the time and date you spoke to them. If possible try to take a witness with you as it is likely it will be denied you ever spoke to them. Email their head office and DO make certain you fwd/cc/bcc to at least one other person. Their head office will not respond but the copies can help considerably as proof of contact. Aldi are a nasty company preying on those less fortunate who might have less than others and also the elderly with super fast checkouts. Try Lidl. Not much better but staff are nicer and no shockingly fast checkouts.”
