I was ready to buy a nice and clean looking 2007 BMW X5 with very low miles when I decided to check on it by buying carfax that day just in case. It turned out the car had changed ownership five times within 6 years when I was told he was the 2nd owner, and many major parts were replaced during its regular maintenance. Changed my mind.

Carfax helped me to find the right Subaru, the 97' Impreza I picked out is just what I was looking for. With it being an older car it's important to know it's history. It came back clean and now I'm the proud owner of a very nice Subaru Impreza. Thanks Carfax for all the help!

I searched through many cars for sale online. Carfax helped me identify the vehicle I wanted. Some of the red flags Carfax helped me identify were: Vehicles with loans, salvaged/rebuilt titles, inaccurate odometer readings. Thank you Carfax.

Hi, I have taken unlimited CAR fax plan. This seems to be good. But only catch is that the getting a CAR FAX with VIN number is limited to 5, which should be increased to 10. Paying 55$ is not a small amount and once a car is bought you are not going to see the CAR fax for next couple of years unless you need another car. So either reduce the price or increase the number of CAR fax with VIN. The car fax really helped me when I found a pretty good at first look with a very minimal price. I was almost finalizing the deal but suddenly CAR fax shown me that the car was Rebuilt. I immediately rejected the deal and saved my $. THANK YOU CAR FAX. I got another CAR with a clean car fax.

CarFax worked quickly and easily to verify the vin numbers that I needed to check. The only concern that I had was you can only check 5 vins with the package that I bought, but unlimited license plates. I was lucky enough to only need to check 3 vins before I found the right car to buy so I am a happy customer.

Carfax helped me determine the value of a vehicle I was looking to buy. I found the price and was able to compare to similar vehicles in my area.

Carfax reports helped to identify many aspects that dealers wouldn't tell and prevented me from buying cars which had problems, improper maintenance or heavy usage. Carfax email notification has made me aware of the new cars on sale even before dealers had them listed on the web. Finally I've got my 2008 Mazda 5 based on one of these notifications. Minus one star for hiding the truth abouth unlimited reports (its by plate only, you still get only 5 VIN reports).

Appreciate the existence of carfax. Without it, I would not have realize a car I thought was a great deal had a odometer rollover of more than 100k in mileage. Without it , I also would not have bought my current car with a peace of mind. Thanks!

Having a CARFAX subscription definitely saved me from buying a bad car with a bad history. During my search, there were more than one incidents, where the seller would either feign ignorance about the history of the car, or refuse to share the details. I usually backed off whenever I did not get info on the car's history, but there were a few occasions where I really liked the car so much that I did not want to let it go just because the seller had no info on it's history. On those occasions, I went to CARFAX for more details, and I am glad that I did. I came across reports that had accidents involving the front end of the car, or an odometer inconsistency, or a bad title, that would make me put my foot on the break pedal in that deal. I would recommend that if someone is serious about buying a used car, then CARFAX is a must, as it serves as a preliminary check on the history of the car and could save thousands in the long run. One can also negotiate the deal based on the history of the car. There is just one drawback that I wish could be overcome in the future. I wish that the CARFAX report shows more details on the accidents that could help the subscriber determine the extent of the damage caused by an accident. But even without that, it serves as a great pointer on the value of the car.

Found what appeared to be a great deal on a 2002 Silverado. Owner said only 160,000 miles. Test drove it did not seem to drive like a 160,000 mile truck. Subscribed to and ran the CARFAX, it revealed the last reported mileage was 255,000. Confronted the owner with the descrepency, and that I was not interested in the vehicle. He change the ad to unknown mileage!

CarFax unlimited reports option is a great value when shopping for a used car. As we purchased our last vehicle, I kept one browser window open on my favorite used car search site and another on CarFax. Copying VINs of interesting cars from one window to the CarFax window helped me very quickly rule out vehicles I didn't want (reported damage, salvage titles, cars from "salt states", etc.) That said, CarFax cannot and does not show everything; accident damage and repair doesn't show up if the owner fixed it or paid out of pocket without involving insurance or police. It's still "buyer beware" but CarFax makes it much easier to be an informed consumer.

Although the car Fax was useful, it was difficult to get a hold of someone to discuss an issue I was having on the site. I tried calling, and emailing, and eventually I did speak to someone who was wonderfully understanding, and helpful, but I had to order 2 so that I could get the information I needed. It would be beneficial to have someone a customer could talk to right away either by phone or instant chat. Thank you.

It did a ok job of getting a cars history. There weren't any surprises but I was surprised in the differences of the reports that the dealer ran and the personal reports

Found out how little maintenance was done with a Carfax report, and then found out the owner also had no records of maintenance , which was a clue as to future cost and probable potential problems. Mystery with clues! Thank you Carfax
